Do your children look like you or their dad?

We are expecting our first baby in August and I'm daydreaming about what he/she will look like.

DH and I are complete opposites lookswise, it's almost comical. Hes very tall with olive skin, brown eyes and jet black hair. I'm a short arse with green eyes and that pale blonde washed out look thing going on . I wonder if our baby will go to one of the two extremes or somewhere in the middle!

Just curious really!

My dd is 6 months old and since birth everyone has said how much she looks like her dad. Never me 😂.

My Dd looks so much like me it’s hard to tell us apart in photos when we’re the same age.
My dad was looking at old holiday photos & said to my mum when did Nancy’s Dd go to place in photo? Mum had to point out it was me in photo not Dd.
My dads family obviously has very strong genes - dad is 1 of 14 & it’s hard to tell them apart.
I have 7 aunts who I look the same as me - it’s weird because I know exactly what I’m going to look like in 5- 20 years time

DS and DSS are both miniature versions of their father. Neither me nor his ex got a look in on that one.

Dd1 spitting image of me and my df, none of us could disown the other. Dd2 looks much more like my dh and his df(they have exactly the same eyes). Neither of them have any of my dm or mil in them (well dd1 has the same size feet as my dm,size 1 1/2)

DS1 looks more like me and my family. DS2 is the spitting image of DH.

DD who is two is definitely a mix! People who know both of us well will see she has a lot more of her dad's features but because her hair colour and eyes are the same as mine, most people say she is my double. We're both tall and slim and she has that too!

DD1 is my mini me, looks just like me and my mum, strong female genes! DD2 more of a mix but is quite tall so taking after her dad more.

If you were to list my DC's attributes (hair colour/type, body shape, height etc) it would seem that neither of them have resemblance to me or DH. However, people frequently comment on how much both of them look like both of us. Interestingly, I have a friend with an adopted sister (not biologically related at all). They are both frequently told how alike their DC are and that all of them look just like their grandad (despite sister's children having no biological link to them). I think we tend to look for similarities.

DC1 looks like his dad mostly
DC2 looks like me but also his paternal grandad
DC3 looked like DC1 on birth
DC4 looks like DC2, in fact they could be twins

They all have my eye colour

Daughter one is very like husband’s sister. Has been mistaken for her child!
Temperament is very like husband

Daughter two looks more like I did as a child and temperament is similar to me but with more confidence!

I used to know a family where the dad was mixed race Nigerian/white, wife was very fair irish descent.

Their first daughter, as expected, had olive skin, brown eyes, dark brown hair. Next two daughters were blonde with blue eyes and fair skin, although facially they looked very like their father.

Genes are funny things ....

Ours (3 boys, 1 girl)

Eldest looks like dh but with my dark hair, and wears glasses like me, and has my dad's personality
#2 looks like me but with dh's red brown hair, and has perfect eyesight like dh, and the fiery temper from dh's side of the family
#3 looks like me but with dh's red brown hair and is exactly like my DH in personality
#4 is a clone of DH in looks, but is very liue me in personality.

Quite fair overall!

DS looks exactly like my husband when he was a child.

DD looks like my mum.

Eldest looks like MIL. Strong resemblance to DH's side of the family. Blonde to mousy, slender, athletic, tanned skin, dimples, straight hair like me though.

Youngest looks like my mum. Spitting image on the day she was born. Strong resemblance to me too. Jet black hair - mixed heritage- to mousy, but very pale and freckly, old person face - she has got fluffy, curly hair like her dad though.

Weirdly looking back at photos of them at the same ages they look very similar, but it's really not obvious they are related day to day. DD1 looks nothing like me.

Ds1 has been a clone of dh all of his life. Except now as an adult he not only looks like hisxdad but also very like my sister's son....down to unusual height, profile, hair line everything .

Ds2 looks more like me....when he was small, everytime he smiled i saw my dad which was comforting as dad is not with us any more.

Three ds's...each one is a pretty accurate carbon copy of dh. Nothing of me in any of them. I have trouble in identifying the correct ds from baby and toddler pictures.

We always get comments on it - how alike the dc are to each other, how alike they are to dh, how you'd never even know they were mine

DD1 has always been a blonde version of MIL
DD2 looks like my dad and has his colour hair and eyes
DD3 looks more like my sister than me in terms of colouring of hair and eyes but definitely has my nose and toes poor thing

My son, 26, looks very much like his father, grandfather and uncles but when I found an old photo of me at 18, bang! it was him in the photo. We are a curious mix of Latin American/ Scots.

S2 looks like his dad - when they were 2 and 5, S1 identified an old picture of H as being definitely his brother (with dad rather than granddad, which was interesting as we'd never noticed it before).

Though my sister is convinced S2 looks just like me.

S1 was harder to place - when he was a baby I caught flashes of both my oldest sister and H's sister. He has a rounder head, which is more common in my family than H's family.

S2 is the one with red hair, though browner than mine was. S1 has just a tinge left in sunlight even though when he was 3 I cut hair exactly my colour from his head.
