What do you have too many of?

I have 28 house plants.

In my defence about 10 don't belong here (they're just here because they should be in another empty house).

Pens, but the one I pick up to make a note of something never works!

Cats.

Easterbunnygettingready · 17/03/2021 13:47

No such thing as too many cats imo...

Pythonesque · 17/03/2021 13:56

Violins! I just did a quick count and found 18 cases ... a couple may be empty, and one is my viola. But it doesn't include my children's own instruments.

I started teaching a few years ago and have gradually acquired the collection in sizes down to 1/10. I think I've got two out on loan at the moment, some of the others may be loaned or sold to families who need them as appropriate. Two of the "loan only" category actually belong to another family who are happy for me to pass them around if it means they get played (1/10 and 1/8 sizes).

Giantrooster · 17/03/2021 14:02

Wicker baskets and sheepskins, but I love both Blush.

RumJerrySailorRum · 17/03/2021 14:15

Flip flops, I bloody love them, I've got loads of other footwear too, but 30plus pairs of flip flops is I think a tad excessive! And i will no doubt add to the collection once I'm back at work next month.

Cookbooks. I can't bear to part with them, despite using online recipies most of the time.

Nail Polish, I only ever paint my toes but I get seduced by all the pretty colours!

RumJerrySailorRum · 17/03/2021 14:17

Oh, Xmas decorations. Our loft now has nothing else but those up there!

mindutopia · 17/03/2021 15:37

Mugs. I love them. We have a whole cupboard full. I still buy lovely ones when I see them and am known to come home from conferences with conference centre ones smuggled into a bag (I have no idea why).

goose1964 · 17/03/2021 15:48

Books, especially cook books

Rillington · 17/03/2021 15:49

Towels. I have over 100. There are only 4 of us here.

AlfonsoTheTerrible · 17/03/2021 15:50

Clothes, shoes, handbags, accessories, winter coats.

fivelemons · 17/03/2021 15:52

Odd socks.

A whole carrier bag full of them. Where their brothers and sisters are, bugger only knows.

Soubriquet · 17/03/2021 15:52

Teddies

I keep thinking about culling them but then I look at their big eyes and can’t decide which ones get to stay and which ones go.

Plus then I spot ones in shop that cry “buy me” and my collection just keeps growing...

UKhun · 17/03/2021 15:57

Glass ramekins from Gu puddings

Bags for life

Random items of food with yellow reduced stickers on in my freezer

HeronLanyon · 17/03/2021 15:59

Tea towels ordered flour sack bundle and received 24 - my fault. Have managed to cut one up for new polish/dusting rags. The rest are washed and folded in a huge pile of white cotton. Slightly intimidated by them.

Maassi · 17/03/2021 16:01

Chin hairs

Mysillystory · 17/03/2021 16:17

Tins of chick peas..... we don't eat chickpeas

HeronLanyon · 17/03/2021 16:21

mysillystory do you want to do a brexit box swap? I will take your chickpeas and give you tinned tomatoes (I have a lot). Might even throw in some bags of ground coffee and stock pots (which I very rarely use but clearly thought I needed).

That's a lot of tea towels Grin
Could you dye them or put prints on them and then use them for pillowcases or placemats?

PattyPan · 17/03/2021 17:03

Milk bottles, I keep forgetting to put the sodding things out to be collected.

PattyPan · 17/03/2021 17:06

@Loopyloututu2

Mainly clothes. I must wear about 5% of the clothes I own, if that. I hate getting rid of stuff though, it always seems such a waste when I’ve hardly worn something or it was expensive. Also cushions. They’re shoved in the loft and cupboards and are all over the house. I had a bit of a thing for buying them for years but since lockdown I haven’t bought any - I’m trying to just live with the house as it is as I think I got a bit obsessive about it pre-pandemic! I was constantly painting / buying new furniture and accessories - I’ve realised I don’t need to change things every few months! Not being able to go to the shops has been good for me in that way.
I read something along the lines of the waste was when you bought it, getting rid of it now just recognises the waste that already happened. You can also think that it’s going to waste just sitting unworn in your wardrobe and if you sell or donate it then someone else might actually get some use out of it.
