My cat returned after a year missing

Not sure if anyone cares 😆 but wanted to share my good news!

Over a year ago out cat didn't come home, totally out of character. We walked the streets etc but a few days children were home shielding and then straight from that we went into lockdown. Everyday the children say how much they miss her still.

A few days ago we get a call saying
"are you missing a cat?"
Husband looks around at the cat we have, and answers no.
They say, we have you down as an owner of a cat we scanned.
My husband face was confused and asked "a grey cat"?
Yes they said.

We couldn't believe it. Like I said it's been over a year. Someone had seen her back on NOV but she hasn't let them near and it wasn't until last week they managed to get her and bring her to the vet, who scanned her.

She's settling in really well, she's a little nervous but she's currently sat on my husbands lap purring away. I keep pinching myself, I can't believe she's home!

Wow that's lovely. Just wondering about the cat your dh denied was missing. Is that a new cat or an old friend to the prodigal cat?

Oodilallygolly · 15/03/2021 18:55

hippychick11 · 15/03/2021 18:56

I'm so delighted for you. It's always such a worry when a pet goes missing. She must be delighted to be home. I'm sure she has had some adventures along the way

NuclearDH · 15/03/2021 18:56

Amazing. I also want to know if the other cat is new and if so are they getting on.

Why did your DH say you weren’t missing a cat?

NebbiaZanzare · 15/03/2021 18:59

It's like delight and disbelief all mixed up in a happy befuddle, isn't it ? 😁

Trevor came in through a window and started kicking off for dinner.... 3 years after she went missing.

Took me about a month to stop grinning like a loon every time she marched up to me and demanded love/food/worship.

I'm so glad you got your prodigal moggy back 🤗

Have a Google at the story of a dcat returned recently after 20 Years.. Poor thing was pts 2 days later.
Sad

@GoneCrazy

Why did your DH say you weren’t missing a cat?
Because they have a new cat (or a second cat) who isn't missing.

Presumably they'd given up hope of original cat returning hence the DH reply.

Great story OP.

This has warmed my heart 😻

Calmestofallthechickens · 15/03/2021 19:02

So happy for you and cat to be reunited! Do you think she remembers?

The same thing happened to me, got a phone call out of the blue after our cat had been missing for a year. Turned out he had moved into a (much bigger) house round the corner and throughly got his feet under the table. We went round to visit but ended up letting him stay at his new home (mainly because of a very attached 4 year old and it being two weeks before Christmas!)

Hairsonyourchest · 15/03/2021 19:05

What a lovely surprise 😊

Not far at all, maybe half a mile. Not the direction we assumed she would go. She used to follow us to my mums house and make herself at home there and follow the children part of the way to school (but not cross the road), so we didn't look much in the opposite direction, which clearly we should have.

Old cat. 😆 he's our old Birman, well not that old, but he's about 10 so older cat who really can't be bothered doing much other than laying in our bed 😆

@GoneCrazy

Why did your DH say you weren’t missing a cat?
We hadn't thought we would never see her again, it's been over a year. She was a cat that went out and caught rats and we has always assumed she has caught a poisoned rat and gone off to die somewhere. So it just wasn't where his or my head was when they asked.
