My respect for the Duchess has just shot up. For a Royal, this is pretty bold and brave.

Not forgetting other women - if you attended the vigil tonight, thank you for sticking up for women's rights. Let's hope this is an opportunity for the Met Police to review and change how they treat both offending officers and female victims

I don’t think she did.
I think she visited this afternoon to pay her respects instead.

nimbuscloud · 13/03/2021 20:20

She wasn’t at the vigil.

skippy67 · 13/03/2021 20:21

No she didn't.

Oh well either way I still think it was a bold move given how much shaky ground the Royals are on and how much misogynistic anger is being spewed at people who are fed up of male on female violence.

Really touched that she did that

missbridgerton · 13/03/2021 20:24

I'm really annoyed that people were stood filming her.

Fucking arseholes, especially when she didn't visibly have protection with her.

CovidKingfisher · 13/03/2021 20:25

Good for her.

Ritascornershop · 13/03/2021 20:26

I agree, it was brave of her and good on her for going.

I was shocked she went, says alot about her following her own mind. I am also disgusted that someone who was there to pay their respects, felt the need to film her!

Marypoppinsbrolly · 13/03/2021 20:28

Even though it wasn't the vigil, it was still a bold move. And I'm glad she did it in the way she did - low key well as low key as a royal can.
I know people will say it's point scoring after recent events but I don't think it is, personally.
She may have always been a privileged young woman but she went to nightclubs etc before she was married and I'm sure, like the rest of us, she has had scary experiences or felt threatened in some way when walking home alone.

I've never been a huge fan of the royals and I'm still not, but I did think good on her when I saw this. Good on her for standing alongside us and showing that it matters - that whatever our backgrounds, we've all felt vulnerable in this way.

And Women in general. And all other Forces the same.

They won't though, because they're misogynist to the core.

laidbacklife · 13/03/2021 20:29

Yes, I agree. V respectful - both in the act and the way she conducted it.

JamesMiddletonsMarshmallows · 13/03/2021 20:30

Yes awful to film her, but I'm sure there'd have been someone in the distance somewhere acting as a protector.

DoubleTweenQueen · 13/03/2021 20:30

She seemed to be simply there with everyone else. Very unlike a usual visit or walkabout.

stealthbanana · 13/03/2021 20:30

I imagine it is quite personal for her - the kids are at school in battersea, lots of the school mums will be in Clapham - there will be a friend of a friend type connection there. Good on her for going.

JamesMiddletonsMarshmallows · 13/03/2021 20:31

Agree. They can deny it all they like, and they do, but any woman anywhere who's called the police after an incident of DV will probably tell you there's institutional misogyny in the Police

Marypoppinsbrolly · 13/03/2021 20:31

I don't think she should have been filmed either. I didn't watch the video but in the pictures, I think you can see it meant something to her.

redorderlig · 13/03/2021 20:32

Job well done then,.

There'll likely have been a few in plain clothes.

I appreciate the gesture and I can only guess, but I think she meant it. No one would have commented if she hadn't gone.

Wobblesandchickuns · 13/03/2021 20:35

Hmm looks like a PR move to cynical me...

katienana · 13/03/2021 20:35

When she was dating Prince William press were regularly camped outside her front door and she was papped loads. That in itself must have been unpleasant.

Number3BigCupOfTea · 13/03/2021 20:37

All women have felt fear.
