My respect for the Duchess has just shot up. For a Royal, this is pretty bold and brave.

Not forgetting other women - if you attended the vigil tonight, thank you for sticking up for women's rights. Let's hope this is an opportunity for the Met Police to review and change how they treat both offending officers and female victims

@missbridgerton

I'm really annoyed that people were stood filming her.

Fucking arseholes, especially when she didn't visibly have protection with her.

Of course she’ll have had protection with her. She has 24/7 protection.

So glad I am not a cynic. I took it as a genuine act of female solidarity. All women have suffered fear.

HeelsHandbagPerfumeCoffee · 13/03/2021 21:30

@Blessex

Oh ffs ladies. You really think this was a PR move. She has feelings. Any woman living in London has feelings. I felt the burning need to go today. So did Kate. Stop making everything about PR and media.
Carole is that you? Royal family feel under threat they’d turn up at opening of an envelope Conspicuously present after the Oprah interview
Moolan · 13/03/2021 21:30

Good on her.

CeibaTree · 13/03/2021 21:30

At first I though it was really touching and admirable that she went, but thinking about it, she has never been seen paying respects to any other female murder victims - Bibaa Henry and Nicole Smallman for example. So a not very subtle PR move for sure.

GCAcademic · 13/03/2021 21:30

I don't care if it was a PR stunt. It was a great move. Just what was needed after having to suffer a whole two days of men whining that they are being demonised, and the police trying to ban women from gathering.

SallyAnnWotsit · 13/03/2021 21:30

I'm surprised that so many posters here think the had no security round her.

They stick out like a sore thumb- mainly as they are dressed not to stick out! Look at the two women in black jackets- one has her back to Catherine, watching out for her and the other one is to her right.

@boobybum

Misjudged PR stunt.
Could you elaborate on how this was 'misjudged' or a PR stunt?

Were you expecting her to go on Piers Morgan and discuss her experiences before she was married?

RRRRwuff · 13/03/2021 21:31

Thank you Kate Thanks

Apparently she took daffodils from the gardens at the palace.

SheldonesqueIsUnwell · 13/03/2021 21:32

Good on you Kate. 🌻

SallyAnnWotsit · 13/03/2021 21:32

There is at least one and possibly 2 female PPO in that video. One with her back to the Duchess, watching anyone coming towards her, and the other to her right.

TheJerkStore · 13/03/2021 21:32

In the end. Women cannot win can they.

Sadly, this is true.

I think it was a great gesture PR stunt or no PR stunt.

JayAlfredPrufrock · 13/03/2021 21:33

Maybe she has been to other things and not been noticed.

And why wouldn’t the future Queen have security?

Jellykat · 13/03/2021 21:33

Good on her!

LaCerbiatta · 13/03/2021 21:34

Sisterhood eh? Hmm

What??? My comment has nothing whatsoever to do with my support for women's rights and what the vigil represents. I just very much doubt that Kate's visit was a spontaneous out-of-her-own-initiative move. It was a well orchestrated PR stunt, planned down to last detail including the 'absent' security and the sombre clothes. And we all know why it was done.
TonyGates · 13/03/2021 21:35

So sad that this has turned into women attacking another woman.

Why is she different to every other woman who felt the need to go there and pay their respects? She's a woman too, with feelings,

Sprining · 13/03/2021 21:35

@PicsInRed

If Meghan had done the same, tomorrow's headline:

DUCHESS OF SUSSEX INCITES RIOT

Yes.

I would think it is an ill advised move in any case. As royalty they have more powerful ways of showing support that actually bring about change

en0la · 13/03/2021 21:36

Because it's a tacky thing to do?

And using it as a media opportunity isn't ?Hmm

legolammb · 13/03/2021 21:36

I was there earlier - it's local to me. There were protection officers in the crowd and I heard someone on a radio giving instructions. This was well before the vigil. Lots of people out for their walks and people bringing flowers to lay. It was very emotional - lots of people there were crying or needing to be comforted and there was a very hushed atmosphere. Most people were wearing masks, especially if going up to put flowers down as it was pretty busy in that bit, though I don't wear a mask generally walking round there
