My respect for the Duchess has just shot up. For a Royal, this is pretty bold and brave.

Not forgetting other women - if you attended the vigil tonight, thank you for sticking up for women's rights. Let's hope this is an opportunity for the Met Police to review and change how they treat both offending officers and female victims

No face mask. Obvious PR move, which I find particularly upsetting given the issue.

boobybum · 13/03/2021 21:25

Misjudged PR stunt.

hansgrueber · 13/03/2021 21:25

@en0la

Why didn't she take flowers?
Because it's a tacky thing to do?

I'm Team Kate on this one. I didn't go out tonight because a member of the family has just come home from France after a work related visit and straight into self isolation for ten days and I'm being even more sensible than usual. But I really wanted to.

Bouncealot · 13/03/2021 21:26

Totally PR. The one time she should have worn a mask if she wanted to be incognito. I wonder how much tax it cost us for this little jaunt. Why would she want to go if the official organisers had abided by the law?

GCAcademic · 13/03/2021 21:26

@VanillaIce

Is the most political thing we’ve seen Kate do. I like it.
Same. I always found her a poor role model for women, but she's gone up in my estimation.
JayAlfredPrufrock · 13/03/2021 21:26

Good for Kate.

TonyGates · 13/03/2021 21:26

I think it's very sad that people find ulterior motives in everything. Such bitterness.

The only thing anyone should be talking about is the woman who lost her life in such a tragic way.

willibald · 13/03/2021 21:26

Good on her!

hansgrueber · 13/03/2021 21:26

@boobybum

Misjudged PR stunt.
Yet had she not gone I think many would be here criticising her.
StatisticallyChallenged · 13/03/2021 21:26

@en0la

Why didn't she take flowers?
One of the reports I saw said she did - daffodils apparently.

Could have been a publicity stunt but she did it in a pretty low key way. I thought I spotted a female protection officer but also very discrete.

imsureineverdo · 13/03/2021 21:26

Hats off to her.

HeelsHandbagPerfumeCoffee · 13/03/2021 21:27

No. She wasn’t at the vigil
Royal family would turn at at opening of an envelope at the moment
They feel under threat and are being conspicuously present

PicsInRed · 13/03/2021 21:27

If Meghan had done the same, tomorrow's headline:

DUCHESS OF SUSSEX INCITES RIOT

Blessex · 13/03/2021 21:27

In the end. Women cannot win can they.

AliasGrape · 13/03/2021 21:27

If it was a PR move it was a questionable one - the police banned the vigil and told people to stay away citing Covid safety so there will be as many people frothing that she broke the rules as there will be thinking it was great that she went.

I don’t know whether it was genuine or PR motivated but I’m glad she went.

Redrosesandsunsets · 13/03/2021 21:27

It’s so good to see the duchess pay her respects and support women and really good to see women defy Covid to stand out in the open air and say “enough is enough”. Thank you.

LongHotSummerJustPassedMeBy · 13/03/2021 21:27

Yes, good on her.

I thought it was a dignified low key tribute to Sarah from the Duchess. And for what it's worth I read she did leave flowers.

Krispyk · 13/03/2021 21:28

@DoubleTweenQueen

She seemed to be simply there with everyone else. Very unlike a usual visit or walkabout.
The woman behind her was her PPO
Bluntness100 · 13/03/2021 21:28

@GreenChips

I don't really think it's brave to be driven somewhere and have security with you (even if they weren't visible they were there!) at an event.

This was a complete PR move and wouldn't have happened if the Meghan stuff hadn't happened this week.

Kate has 24/7 security. It’s not a pr stunt. She has them with her permanently. Even when she pops to a shop. Which she does. Due to her position she’s protected Round the clock by the met. You can’t seriously think she is not or that she brings them in for or events

She’s the future queen. She’s at risk. Constantly. From nutters to terrorists. She goes no where ever without security.

AirBubbleMe · 13/03/2021 21:28

@Wobblesandchickuns

Hmm looks like a PR move to cynical me...
100%
Goawayquickly · 13/03/2021 21:28

Cynical or not, this was a very good move from Kate. She has a lot of respect generally, people tend to like her and take her seriously so I think this is positive.

I think it's quite a powerful statement from her.
