My respect for the Duchess has just shot up. For a Royal, this is pretty bold and brave.

Not forgetting other women - if you attended the vigil tonight, thank you for sticking up for women's rights. Let's hope this is an opportunity for the Met Police to review and change how they treat both offending officers and female victims

I completely disagree she would have been criticised for not going. I don't think there have been many incidents similar where you would expect the RF to attend.

@DoubleTweenQueen

Thank God - only two more pages left to go
Grin It's painful but I just can't stop reading.
Silverandgoldsparkles · 14/03/2021 10:10

The earlier comment that she may in fact have known this woman indirectly through her children is what I suspect.

She didn't rock up with an entourage and bells and whistles. She mostly blended in, paid her respects and then left.

@Roussette you do - you're on other threads talking about MM being a victim of the RF but Kate part of the same family is responsible for the actions of her uncle in law? Seems like an agenda to me

It wasn't publicised or announced that she was going. I of course believe that she had protection while there, particularly given the week that is in it - it would have been calculated to be very dangerous for her. She just went. I think it was personal to her.

SoupDragon · 14/03/2021 10:12

@Mummyozzi

I think it's clearly point scoring as she's never been known to do anything like this. She didn't even wear a black dress for year if the #metoo bafta awards black dress code.
1) "not known to do anything like this before" somewhat ironic given she is being lambasted for being recognisable here.
  1. the very dark green dress with black accents was because of royal protocol.
EastMonkey · 14/03/2021 10:12

Sadly, this will be far too close to home for Kate - it is very likely that at some point in time the policeman involved policed the sentry points on Kensington Palace Garden roads in his role as a diplomatic protection officer.

“She mostly blended in” as one does, without her mask.

I can assure you ( evaluate I've fucked up before with a name change) all OP posts show up in red/green/purple depending on what platform you're using

No they don't. Not on iOS/safari.

I like to think that as a woman who has been chased by a horde of men for a decade (albeit with cameras), and as the mother of a daughter, she felt strongly about the murder of a woman by a man

I am sure this is the case too.

However, far more powerful for me is Jess Phillips MP who, year on year, on International Womens Day, reads out the names in the Houses of Parliament of all those women who have been killed by men . The names took 4 minutes to read out Sad

DoubleTweenQueen · 14/03/2021 10:14

@Krispyk Oh, the irony!

NovemberRain2 · 14/03/2021 10:14

Am I missing something? Why was it brave of a woman with security detail and private transport to go to a park during the day?

Diverseopinions · 14/03/2021 10:14

I think for people who are dutiful and sensible, and I know a few, there will always come a time when they are accused of not emoting enough; not being real.
Well, Kate's sister-in-law has just been interviewed by the most famous host in the world giving her real truth. Kate and Will are left seeming like wooden dummies in tweeds and pastel dress coats by comparison. So I think Kate is having a bit of her own truth, going back in her mind to when she was single and spending time in London and doing what she would have done then.

And she looks sincere doing it. She looks like a slightly more dowdy version of her royal occasion self. And I think she does have a sincerity and conviction. It shows.

She does the royal job well, judges formal and personable and how to strike the balance. She looks a bit posh because she is. Her parents business did well and so they sent the kids to Marlborough School. She can't help that, any more than Harry can help being born royal. Kate knows that Will and Harry's friends probably think she's not from the top drawer and not as upper class as them, but she does what she can to be elegant and gracious and does everything she's asked.

Lots of people have met her and post things about her on forums like this, and nobody ever says she is unpleasant.

But personally, I think the formal roles suit her and also her husband better than informal pod casts, and I think they'd do well to stick to official types of celebrating ordinary citizens for their society-enhancing volunteering, rather than speaking out off the script sheet. They don't really have that sort of 'from the heart' connectivity - but, no worries as you need all types to make a world, and people do what they want to do for the better in all sorts of ways.

Could be that too.

It's not a competition. Why do women always have to be pitted against each other?

SoupDragon · 14/03/2021 10:15

@NovemberRain2

Am I missing something? Why was it brave of a woman with security detail and private transport to go to a park during the day?
Because of the statement it was making. Not because of physical threat.
ShowMeTheScreenshot · 14/03/2021 10:15

@OneFamilyToRuleUsAll it's meeee, James

OneFamilyToRuleUsAll · 14/03/2021 10:16

Just scrolled up to capture this one. Only one of the names shows as OP. Definitely wouldn't have asked if they all did.

Because she is in the crosshairs of a bullet at any one time. Now, particularly.

Oh a completely different name definitely wouldn't show as the OP. Grin

@SoupDragon 😱😱😱

Apologies to @OneFamilyToRuleUsA - I only ever use the app you see where OP posts stay red. But that's a pretty massive loophole to let sock puppetters loose. I take it @MNHQ knows about this?

Sorry that should be an apology to @OneFamilyToRuleUsAll - I somehow deleted some of your username

@Diverseopinions I would agree warmly with your thoughtful comment.

I think I recall that it is deliberate otherwise namechanges for personal reasons would be outed.

As an aside, typing @MNHQ does nothing as that is not a username.
