F1 2021 and we have a Schumacher on the grid again

In the absence of a F1 forum I'd like to chat about all things F1 Grand Prix.

How will the season go? How will the newest Schumacher fare ?

I can't wait for the first race.

Signing in.
I'm a vague watcher these days, but still a huge Kimi fan!
I'll probably read, more than post.

I’m looking forward to seeing how Mick gets on in F1. He won the F2 championship last year in fine style after a season of superb racing against a strong field which was far more entertaining than most of the GPs. He has proved that he’s in F1 on merit, not just because of his name, and I wish him well.

en0la · 12/03/2021 18:26

I'm looking forward to it to, his win in F2 was good. I'd much prefer to see him in F1 then drivers who are only their because Daddy has money to invest.

I may be controversial, but I’m disappointed that Alonso is back. Would much rather new drivers be given the opportunity

LadyofMisrule · 12/03/2021 19:37

It a great lineup for 2021 - apart from Nikita Mazepin

jerometheturnipking · 12/03/2021 19:41

It is a nice feeling seeing Schumacher back on a car.

Totally agree about being disappointed in Alonso returning. He’s a great driver but he’s had more than a fair crack at it and they really should look to new talent.

I’m looking forward to seeing how Danny Ric and Lando get on this season. Things look ominous for Ferrari already with Le Clerc getting a red flag today in his test session though 😳

I'll agree with you on that, I think he'll end up tarnishing his legacy like Michael did at Mercedes (and I fear the same for Seb at Aston Martin). I'm not a big Hamilton fan, but you have to admire the guy and I'm hoping he walks after #8 this year rather than linger and do the same.
SomeKindOfFloppyWeirdo · 12/03/2021 19:53

Gah. For a second I thought it would be Ralf back for another go! Smile

Clearly I’ve not watched F1 for far too long!

divingworldchampion · 12/03/2021 19:59

I'm really looking forward to the new season. Totally agree re. Alonso, feels really boring. I can't see anyone being able to beat Hamilton this year.
Also really pleased to see Portugal back again this year as it was great last, proper old school track.

AdobeWanKenobi · 12/03/2021 20:13

I love Mick Schumacher, but whilst Haas retain him and kowtow to a Russian Billionaire and his playboy son I can't support them.

I unfollowed every account. My biggest surprise is Mick continuing to have any part in the farce.

milski · 12/03/2021 20:18

I'm an avid f1 fan but I have to admit that last year was a bit boring. I was on the edge of my seat when George Russell got to drive the Mercedes though. What a race! Bit gutted he won't be in a competitive car this year. Hopefully there will be more competition overall this year.

Thesagacontinues · 12/03/2021 20:43

Looking forward to the new season!

It was great last year to break up the long weekends by watching quali saturday then the race sunday.

The AM looks better out on track than it did at the reveal.

Cant wait til the first race weekend.

ihearttc · 12/03/2021 21:56

My 10 year old DS is utterly obsessed with Lando. I have never ever watched F1 before but his excitement about it is infectious and I’m slightly impressed that he prefers Lando over Lewis Hamilton (appreciate that might be controversial).

Randomly I have walked and cycled around the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi, my DS says it’s the best thing he has ever done!

adawong · 12/03/2021 22:14

Why would that be controversial, out of a large group of F1 fans I know only a couple like Hamilton.

ihearttc · 13/03/2021 07:33

@adawong

Because every other person I’ve spoken to about F1 are utterly bemused why a 10 year old would want Lando to win rather than Lewis Hamilton so I wrongly assumed the same on here! He has managed to get all his footballing mates to start watching it as well and they all love Lewis as well so don’t get his love for Lando!!

supercee · 13/03/2021 07:44

I started becoming really interested in F1 (and Christian Horner Blush) after watching the Netflix series. New one is out on the 19th for anyone who watched it.

ihearttc · 13/03/2021 07:48

@supercee

DS is counting down the days!

HarryBob · 13/03/2021 07:50

Can I join? Big F1 & McLaren fan & I'm looking forward to seeing Danny Ric in the team. I'd love to see some more podiums like last year.

Also not fussed about Alonso's return, I would have rather he tried a full season in Indycar. Can't see him getting higher than upper midfield in the Alpine.

Hopeful for Seb to be able to shine in the Aston Martin after such a disappointing final year for him at Ferrari.

lynsey91 · 13/03/2021 08:36

I have been a big F! fan for over 40 years. Back in the day was a big Nigel Mansell fan!

I am now a big Lewis Hamilton fan. Have watched him since his karting days.

@ihearttc I think it great that your son supports Lando. No reason why he should support Lewis. It will quite likely be Lewis' last year anyway.

Practicalprat · 13/03/2021 15:32

I cannot wait for end of March, watching testing now, lovely to be back.
Looking forward to seeing how Alonso does and Daniel R and Seb and and and and there’s so many swaps it will be great. The only thing I’m dreading is if that bloody merc is way out front, complete turn off.Not a a Hamilton fan,and know plenty that aren’t.They should have let him go and put George Russell in the car instead.Just goes to show what a good car does.

Glittertwins · 13/03/2021 15:37

Big #44 fans here, followed since early days in F1. DCs used to call the racing "Go Lewis" .
Will be interesting to see how the new partnerships pan out, I'd love to see McLaren back near the top but want LH to get the eighth title.

QueenOfLabradors · 13/03/2021 15:39

Brilliant! @EauRouge if you're still on MN and aren't already on this under a new name, somewhere for us to natter!

QueenOfLabradors · 13/03/2021 15:43

I'm hanging fire on whether to book tickets for any actual race weekends this season. Last season I'd built my summer holiday plans around following the circus to Spa and then Monza with a bit of general sight-seeing on the way there and back and between.

MindyStClaire · 13/03/2021 18:42

Have just seen that Murray Walker has died. So sad about it, even though he was such a good age. What a legend.

jerometheturnipking · 13/03/2021 18:42
