In the absence of a F1 forum I'd like to chat about all things F1 Grand Prix.

How will the season go? How will the newest Schumacher fare ?

I can't wait for the first race.

@jerometheturnipking

Just seen the news about Murray Walker Sad.
It's so sad. Always remember him in bits when Damon Hill went over the line to win the championship in 1996. He was the best commentator.
jerometheturnipking · 13/03/2021 18:46

I'm not normally one to be bothered by a famous person passing, but I feel sad about this. He was the voice of my weekends growing up - and it's his "Go, go, go!" that I still hear when I pull away from traffic lights Grin. One of the best, so much passion for the sport - and what an era of motorsport for him to oversee.

Sparklingbrook · 13/03/2021 18:52

I have just been telling DS2 that the nineties were the best for F1. His take on it is that back then none of the drivers were 'mates' like they are now. Not sure how true that is, I loved Damon Hill and all the shenanigans with Michael Schumacher playing dirty.

Oh that is sad. Unless I'm very much mistaken you will all feel the same.

I also was sad to hear about Murray Walker. He, too me, was always the voice of F1. He really was passionate about the sport

@QueenOfLabradors we were booked for Monza last year too. I'm wondering aswell if we will be possible to go this year. I've subscribed myself to email alerts for when the tickets do go on sale.

I too prefer Lando over Lewis personality wise, but can see how some children would be more interested in race wins than personality.

I'm hoping for a better year for Seb this year, but its just nice to see him smiling and happy again. He seems like such a good guy.

Spudlet · 13/03/2021 19:55

I just found a list of Walkerisms... his voice was the soundtrack to my childhood Sunday afternoons. I’ve been making myself giggle reading them. Bless him. RIP.

I have never really been a fan of Seb's but it is nice to see him looking happy. His chat with Ted about the cheese I thought was hilarious

CommanderBurnham · 13/03/2021 20:14

So safe about Murray Walker. His love for F1 was infectious.

Yay to a Schumacher. I'm sorry that George Russell is not in a Merc this season. Lots to look forward to as there has been a game of musical drivers so all of that should be really interesting.

Can't wait. Just waiting for a Now Tv deal before I sign up.

Glad to see sky added the 'in memory of Murray Walker' at the end of the f1 programme I just watched.

RIP Murray Walker. I shall always remember the interview he did after Ayrton Senna died.

QueenOfLabradors · 14/03/2021 10:18

Dear Murray. Several times when he was commentating, he said things like 'There's no way that xyz can lose this now' - at which point xyz would get caught up in someone's else's spin on the next corner, or suffer a disastrous mechanical failure. Since then, every time a commentator on any sporting event that any of us feel a strong emotional interest in says anything that sounds like they're assuming our team has it in the bag, we all shout at the television 'Shut up you fool, Curse Of Murray!' We were doing it during the last minutes of the England-France rugby match yesterday. None of the current crop of commentators and pundits are up to his standard. Sky's are better than C4's team though.

Whats the verdict from everyone now that testing is over?

Think Red Bull might actually be able to keep up with Mercedes this year. As much as I love Lewis and want him to win his 8th title I also want him to have some proper competition.

Mercedes actually didn't seem that impressive but I am sure come Sunday their cars will be fine.

I watched something on the F1 channel the other day and one of the presenters (not sure of her name) said she interviewed Lewis straight after testing and he was really happy, cheerful and chatty so he wasn't worried about the car's performance obviously. Of course they may have been sandbagging!

Excited for the first race and looking forward to watching practice today

SandrasAnnoyingFriend · 26/03/2021 08:42

Oh my people! So excited for this weekend, it's my ray of sunshine at the moment.
Cannot wait to see how Red Bull perform on race day, I think they'll both be competitive, it was definitely the right call to bring Perez in for Albon.
Also looking forward to seeing Seb back in a performing car. Aston Martin/Racing Point is an interesting prospect.
I'm going to watch all of the practice sessions today (if I can get away with it!)

NowTV currently have passes on offer at £25 a month for 6 months until 11th April as I hear they’re not doing their F1 pass this season Confused

StarCourt · 27/03/2021 16:17

Only just found this thread after watching Max claim pole in Bahrain! I have a life size Max cut out that watches races with me.

StarCourt · 27/03/2021 16:20

@QueenOfLabradors Murrayisms! For me he will always be the voice of F1.
A few years ago I was lucky enough to spend a day and evening with Murray Walker, he really was a true gent and an absolute legend.

SandrasAnnoyingFriend · 27/03/2021 19:35

Shame to see Vettel hampered by yellow flags and stuck at the back of the pack, I was hopeful he'd be back in the thick of it.
Surprised the Ferraris did as well as they did and nice to see Mercedes dominance slightly dampened.
Roll on tomorrow.

Brilliant I didn't want to post until everyone had had a chance to watch qualifying... It's great that Red Bull is definitely a competitive team with Mercedes, and absolutely brilliant to see Ferrari back where they should be! And so chuffed for Alonso. I'm sorry Vettel's qualifying got bolloxed by the yellow flag.

I got mine £20/month for 9 months.

Yay happy for Max! Can't wait for the race.

Moonlight22 · 28/03/2021 10:34

Vet tells in a good car, he’s out of position so won’t stay there for long. Fingers crossed.
Just so happy that Mercs aren’t the dogs this year.
And I do hope Perez is allowed to fight for some wins and not just there for Verstappen. He didn’t seem that happy in car yesterday.

Moonlight22 · 28/03/2021 10:35

Vettel you dick

Justdowhatyouweretold · 28/03/2021 10:44
