DH and I had a few wines last night and fell down a YouTube rabbit hole listening to 90s music. We then got into a heated debate about what the best song of the 90s was.

My vote - Set You Free by NTrance

His vote - Live Forever by Oasis

For clarity, we were both mid teens during this decade.

What's your stand out song of the 90s?

I’m a lot older than you and didn’t particularly like 90’s music but my vote would definitely be Pulp, ‘Common people’. Surely the best song of the 90’s by far.

Lucky Man by The Verve

Lurleene · 06/03/2021 11:30

Unfinished Sympathy by Massive Attack.

TiptopJ · 06/03/2021 11:32

Toughie has called it. It has to be common people although its such a shame the radio edit doesn't have the last verse of the song as its just pure brilliance

InsideNumberNine · 06/03/2021 11:33

Common People just loses all its meaning without that last verse. Agreed.

So random but I love Crazy for You by Let Loose!

Laila747 · 06/03/2021 11:46

The Masterplan - Oasis

For me, nothing else comes close.

Crabwoman · 06/03/2021 11:53

Show me Love by Robyn S.

I'm an indie girls at heart but this is a bit of a cult song in Merseyside and reminds me of the Halcyon days of early freedom.

I was in my mid teens in the 1990's

Also, massive attack, unfinished sympathy.

Crabwoman · 06/03/2021 11:59

I should say unfinished sympathy is a retrospective one. I don't think I understand just how good it was when I was in the cider drinking years of 15/16

InsideNumberNine · 06/03/2021 21:41

See I didn't love Unfinished Sympathy but Shara Nelson did an awesome song called One Goodbye in Ten.

Won't be a popular choice I suspect, but All I Want for Christmas by Mariah Carey.

wellthatsunusual · 06/03/2021 21:44

I would probably say Movin on Up by Primal Scream.

SheldonesqueIsUnwell · 06/03/2021 21:47

Love Spreads. Stone Roses.

Immense.

AnneElliott · 06/03/2021 21:49

Rhythm of the night - by Corona I think?

DinosaurDiana · 06/03/2021 21:49

Blur - Girls and Boys

saltandpepperchickenandchips · 06/03/2021 21:51

Missing - Everything But the Girl
Set You Free - NTrance
Losing my Religion - REM
Backstreets Back - Backstreet Boys Grin

saltandpepperchickenandchips · 06/03/2021 21:52

@DavidsSchitt

So random but I love Crazy for You by Let Loose!
@DavidsSchitt this came on the local radio station the other day - it’s a great song!
wishywashywoowoo70 · 06/03/2021 21:53

Keep the Faith
Was a rock fab in the 90's and loved Bon Jovi

heidbuttsupper · 06/03/2021 21:54

@AnneElliott 100% this!

InsideNumberNine · 06/03/2021 21:56

@SheldonesqueIsUnwell - YY!!! So many people absolutely slate Second Coming but the guitar riff on Love Spreads is 👌🏻👌🏻

OP posts:
Sparkletastic · 06/03/2021 21:56

Definitely Unfinished Sympathy

Borisjohnsonshairbrush · 06/03/2021 21:58

@DavidsSchitt agree! Great song.

Mine is Dreams by The Cranberries

CagneyNYPD · 06/03/2021 21:59

Common People, every single time. I was at university at the time of its release, surrounded by kids fron affluent families. Jarvis spoke all the truth.

mnahmnah · 06/03/2021 22:01

Oh god, my head hurts with this!! Too much to choose from!

mommybunny · 06/03/2021 22:02

You Only Get What You Give, New Radicals
Better Man, Pearl Jam
BitterSweet Symphony, The Verve
What’s Up, 4 Non-Blondes
Constant Craving, kd lang

Love all of the above, but I think my personal favourite is Rain King, Counting Crowd
