DH and I had a few wines last night and fell down a YouTube rabbit hole listening to 90s music. We then got into a heated debate about what the best song of the 90s was.

My vote - Set You Free by NTrance

His vote - Live Forever by Oasis

For clarity, we were both mid teens during this decade.

What's your stand out song of the 90s?

Ooooh....so many good ones. Common People is definitely up there. Along with a few Oasis and Manics tracks. But one of my all time favourites is Nancy Boy by Placebo.

AnneElliott · 06/03/2021 22:16

@saltandpepperchickenandchips - it was me and my best friends 16th birthday party that this song reminds me of. Such a great night! Takes me back to that night whenever it comes in the radio.

I was going to mention Tubthumping myself. I think it’s a classic.

Funny, I’ve never heard of a lot of these. I’m American and didn’t move to the U.K. till 2000 so that must be why so many of the popular ones on this thread have escaped me. We certainly got our share of Oasis but there wasn’t much else in the way of British pop in the 90s. The 80s were an entirely different matter.

8090sTv · 06/03/2021 22:25

Oohhhh, my two:

Loaded Primal Scream
Little Britain Dreadzone

Titsywoo · 06/03/2021 22:27

Faith No More - Epic
Red Hot Chilli Peppers - Suck My Kiss
Pearl Jam - Jeremy
Guns n Roses - Live and Let Die or Civil War or Mammakin
Metallica - Enter Sandman

So many greats!

The BritPop scene was huge if you lived here, particularly if you were a teen. Even if you weren't into it (I didn't really have a preference between Blur and Oasis, and didn't like Pulp), you couldn't escape it.

You should definitely ask Alexa to play 90s pop and look up the songs mentioned. It'll be worth it.

QuentinWinters · 06/03/2021 22:31

Gosh. Hard question.
