Best song of the 90s

DH and I had a few wines last night and fell down a YouTube rabbit hole listening to 90s music. We then got into a heated debate about what the best song of the 90s was.

My vote - Set You Free by NTrance

His vote - Live Forever by Oasis

For clarity, we were both mid teens during this decade.

For me, nothing else comes close.

Absolute agree. It's one of my chosen funeral songs, along with As by George Michael and Mary J Bilge.

But I will tell you that 'Alexa, play 90s pop' was one of the best things I ever discovered.

So many of the ones mentioned feature.

Firestarter, sounds as good now as in the 90s.

I still won't pick one, but Chains by Tina Arena is pretty high up there. I still love it to this day.

New Radicals got a recent bump in attention as they played at Joe Biden’s Inauguration Concert - apparently they had been a favourite of his late son Beau’s (makes sense as Beau would have been in his late 20s/early 30s when the song came out). Beau had been quoting the lyrics to his dad not long before he died and they stuck with Joe and the band reunited for his inauguration.

I love More Than Words by Extreme.

I think that's the test of a good tune. Would it still sound as good now ? Hence why mine is Set You Free.

(For full disclosure, my track of the 80s is Just Can't Get Enough by Depeche Mode which would still rock today)
