Like a previous poster, I was bullied at school as I was the tallest girl and so taller than many of the boys. I got called horrible names by them and the most vitriolic abuse came from a very short boy.

Oddly enough it never occurred to me that it might have been a height issue, I assumed it was because I was English in a Scottish school, but thinking back, it was probably a combination of both.

unchienandalusia · 04/03/2021 10:45

@NotSorry I've interviewed him. He's my height. 5'7. We were eye to eye.

Mrstwiddle · 04/03/2021 10:45

And agree with OP, I had always thought he was tall! He has quite big hands in proportion to the rest of his body.

Hotchox · 04/03/2021 10:46

huh, and there's me thinking body-shaming was not ok.... Comments from some of the people on this thread are amazing. What was Mr Sunak supposed to do - pay more attention in growing class or something?

Imagine this thread started with 'Dishy Rishi is actually Brown !!!' - as if that was something he should have sorted out when he was younger too.... smdh

LadyHalesBroach · 04/03/2021 10:46

What a depressingly rude thread about men having to be a certain height to be attractive and marriage potential. We push back against men saying this sort of shit about women, and yet here we are, taking to the internet to poke fun out of a man's height.

I'm 5'5, my husband is 5'5, it has about as much bearing on people and their days as Rishi Sunak's height. Absolutely nothing.

Did you not realise?
ThursdayLastWeek · 04/03/2021 10:47

I married a man shorter than Rishi and it’s probably the best decision I ever made!

Honestly these reductive caricatures people insist on using, even in the 21st century make me cross.

WeIcomeToGilead · 04/03/2021 10:48

It’s something you don’t think about until you have a small child. Mine is a total show off and loves the attention he gets and luckily he’s very athletic. So for now all is well.

If any mums of small boys are reading this - please get them into sports. So important they feel physically confident.

AgeLikeWine · 04/03/2021 10:49

Yes, Rishi is tiny. Short, slight & skinny.

But he’s also rich enough to afford beautifully tailored Savile Row suits which make him look good on the telly. Money well spent.

Georgyporky · 04/03/2021 10:51

But how big is his dunda?

tenlittlecygnets · 04/03/2021 10:52

@Oldat40

Never marry a short man.
That's one of the most stupid things I've ever heard someone say. Height is one of the few things you can do nothing about. Thanks for continuing the tired old trope that 'men must be big and strong and tall to be manly'. Hmm

RS was made Chancellor of the Exchequer whilst still in his 30s, following a by all accounts lucrative career in the City. He's married to the daughter of a billionaire. He's [quite] good looking despite being pint sized.

I very much of doubt he'll be losing any sleep over a few light heartedly negative comments made about him on an obscure mumsnet thread.

This said, you're probably making a fair point in terms of the risk that there's say some diminutive 16 year old boy out there, without RS's other advantages, who might chance upon this thread and be hurt by it. So, yeah, regular reminders that all of this is indeed light hearted wouldn't go amiss.

DreamEvenBigger · 04/03/2021 10:52

@Oldat40

Never marry a short man.
Yeah. Never marry a fat woman is a good one, too.
CruCru · 04/03/2021 10:53

He must be very slim. And he wears good clothes.

NotSorry · 04/03/2021 10:55

@Ylfa

The whole premise of the OP is pretty racist isn’t it?
You need to check the definition of racism Hmm

Yes he wears a suit well and is very well groomed.

I find short men go one of two ways, either they go down the short man syndrome/steroid/tattoo route, or they learn to develop a self-deprecating sense of humour and make an effort to be fit/slim/well groomed. The former I don’t find attractive, the latter I do.

GrumpyHoonMain · 04/03/2021 10:57

A lot of UK born Indian men his age are that height and build. I know as I was introduced to loads in my 20s and was ‘rejected’ by all of them for being too tall (I’m 5 ft 7). In fact at 5 ft 5 he’s probably on the taller scale.

NotSorry · 04/03/2021 10:59

He’s 5’7” for the umpteenth time

Not that it matters what his height is

Horrible thread

GreenlandTheMovie · 04/03/2021 10:59

@Youhavetoquitwhileyoureahead

I think the comments to/about short women though are quite different from those to/about short men Greenland - much less derogatory, hostile and contemptuous.

Obviously that's a generalisation - there are examples of those regarding women as well, but I think for women it's shape rather than height which attracts the really awful comments.

Really? I once got told by a man that I would "look out of place" at a certain event.

Another told me in a sniggering voice "are Scottish people short because a poor diet means they are stunted at birth".

For the record, neither of these comments particularly bothered me because I'm slim and attractive (like Rishi) and because they came from none too attractive, older men who perhaps grew up in an era when that sort of comment was considered ok.

But yes to "derogatory, hostile and contemptuous" and I can't even remember most of the comments that have fallen into that category.

AIMummy · 04/03/2021 11:04

Erm well he is Asian Hmm. I'd say that was average for the men my community. What a weird thread. Do you know many Asian people OP?

noblegreenk · 04/03/2021 11:06

I read that he's 5ft 7ins not 5ft 5ins. Still quite small but not ridiculously so.

middleager · 04/03/2021 11:08

@FedNlanders

My husband is over a foot taller than him.
So?
saturning · 04/03/2021 11:09

he does look nice in a suit though.

Youhavetoquitwhileyoureahead · 04/03/2021 11:10

"I read that he's 5ft 7ins not 5ft 5ins. Still quite small but not ridiculously so."

No height is ridiculous, surely?

Bluesheep8 · 04/03/2021 11:11

What about emotionally and intellectually confident? Oh and tell them never to marry stupid women.
