I mean most people know about things like peanut allergies but what else do you know is an allergen?

Someone I know (on here btw so hi if she sees this) her ds is allergic to tomatoes

I’ve never heard of a tomato allergy before so that was interesting

My grandson is allergic to tomatoes , straight away comes up in a rash on his face and starts coughing , he is undiagnosed asthma as he is only 3 and won’t diagnose until he’s 5. The 2 are linked it seems

I have oral allergy syndrome quite badly, that's a reaction to raw fruits, veg and nuts. It's usually mild but mine is quite severe. Fine if things are cooked though.

Claphands · 02/03/2021 09:15

I knew someone who was allergic to horses!

Tomato allergy is not that uncommon. I’m allergic to raw but not cooked tomatoes.

Persipan · 02/03/2021 09:16

That thing where people can develop an allergy to meat after being bitten by a tick is quite an odd one.

My son is allergic to chicken. If he eats it he gets hives around his mouth, then swollen lips (double size), and eventually eye lids swell to closing. We've also discovered he can't eat turkey or any other game meat, although could be a cross contamination issue at the factory. Quite a rare allergy so I've been told. I'm allergic to avacado, my lips swell up. I've also got a touch allergy to the starch in potatoes, peeling them without gloves makes my hands red and incredibly itchy.

Mixitupalot · 02/03/2021 09:31

Eggs
Chicken
Fruit

They are awful allergies & just like a peanut allergy can be life threatening.

bloodywhitecat · 02/03/2021 09:35

DD is allergic to Christmas trees, we spent her first 5 Christmases in hospital until I figured out it. She can't go anywhere near one so from December onwards she is pretty much confined to her house or work as real Christmas trees are everywhere.

Sugarplumfairy65 · 02/03/2021 09:36

One of my children has oral allergy syndrome. She's allergic to most fruits when raw, horses, cats, and has really bad hay fever which is particularly bad with beech pollen

Mrsjayy · 02/03/2021 09:38

I'm allergic too kiwi and grapes and dried fruit.

CMOTDibbler · 02/03/2021 09:40

My mum was allergic to a huge number of things. Guinea pigs (really severe) and tomato plants (contact) were some of the more unusual things I remember

redcandlelight · 02/03/2021 09:41

histamine allergy (not really uncommon though)

I have a relative who is allergic to chlorophyl. all raw green veg/salad are out.
my dc best friend is allergic to chocolate

Mrsjayy · 02/03/2021 09:42

My uncle is allergic to puppies but not dogs. My aunt puppy fostered for dogs for disabled people , uncle couldn't pet a puppy without antihistamine Shock

ZNation · 02/03/2021 09:43

My son is allergic to trees

AnnaMagnani · 02/03/2021 09:44

I know a doctor who is allergic to an antihistamine tablet. Fully diagnosed by an NHS allergy clinic.

She finds it mortifying and freely admits that if she had heard it from a patient she would think they were making it up.

BoKatan · 02/03/2021 09:46

Artichoke

Mrsjayy · 02/03/2021 09:47

So what happens when an allergic person is allergic to antihistamine Shock I

WhatMattersMost · 02/03/2021 09:48

I'm allergic to fish. Not shellfish - sea and freshwater fish.

AnnaMagnani · 02/03/2021 09:49

I think it was only one sort of anti-histamine tablet, she had other choices, but yes Shock

bruffin · 02/03/2021 09:49

My dad was a shoe maker and allergic to the glue, but that was after years and years of working with it

Both DS and i are allergic to some plasters,
DS is also allergic to sesame seeds, tree nuts and probably other seeds, he also has oral allergy syndrome, allergy to cats and hay fever. He has also had some bad reactions to bites
I have had swollen lips from under ripe plantains and persimmon, hayfever but mainly when it rains, so probably fungus and i think beech trees as there is one on a route i used to sneeze really badly on.

DH allergic to brazil nuts, animals and hayfever

user1471523870 · 02/03/2021 09:50

My husband reacts to cherries in a very unusual way: he gets a rush...on his ears!
My son has A LOT of diagnosed allergies, but the most unusual is probably to kiwi.

NorbertMeubles · 02/03/2021 09:50

Kiwi fruit for me

BikeRunSki · 02/03/2021 09:51

I didn’t think tomatoes was that unusual an allergy ?
I know a couple of people with this.

DH can not stomach cucumber, melon or artichoke. No ill effects other than they make him gag. It’s completely involuntary.

justilou1 · 02/03/2021 09:52
