Yes. It's been a thing for a while now.

Jo Bartosch in The Critic

thecritic.co.uk/male-transgenderism-is-sexism-on-steroids/

With exquisite concision, feminist scholar Professor Sheila Jeffreys dubbed transgenderism a “men’s sexual rights movement.” She posits that it is women’s subordinate social status that some men with masochistic tendencies find arousing. Far from being a progressive step toward breaking down sexist stereotypes, the thrill men gain from identifying as the other sex, whether by being in “girl mode” or having surgery, depends upon men maintaining their dominant status in society. In essence, male transgenderism is invested in the erotization of women’s subordinate social position; it is sexism on steroids.

Hard to disagree with any of that. Except to add that as well as eroticising subordination, it relies heavily on male privilege in the sense of colonising women's biological and sociological reality to legitimate your own fetish.

@AlfonsoTheTerrible I better catch up then...or perhaps not! Hmm

DeeCeeCherry · 02/03/2021 19:15

Him who went into women's loo and intimidated/bullied a group of 14 year old girls who were in there, then spoke of it with pride as if it was an achievement?

Is this all it takes to swoon over a man - that he looks good?!🙄

MrMahoneysPants · 02/03/2021 20:15

When Danielle Muscato first appeared on the scene I was 100% convinced based on their background as a sceptic that it was a long game joke meant to prove that we shouldn't accept anything on faith.

But I was wrong.

I keep hoping Izzy will be trying to prove something besides their own innate twatishness.

Gerla · 02/03/2021 20:19

Used to love him but since he shown us all the contempt he has for women, I've gone right off him.

Campervan69 · 02/03/2021 20:24

He's a massive disappointment 😔

DogsAreShit · 02/03/2021 21:17

He really is. I loved him when he was all "man in a dress wahey", thought he was articulate, intelligent, funny etc. But a bloke close to pension age calling himself a girl and yelling at actual girls in the street? Eww, no.

DogsAreShit · 02/03/2021 21:29

To be clear it's not the ageing per se I have issue with - I myself have gone seamlessly from angry young firebrand to grumpy old woman : it happens to us all. It's the creepiness/perviness that's the problem.

He didn't come across as a pervert when he was younger. But now, in his current guise of a cross between Hagrid and Baby Jane, bombing his way into teenage toilets and fetishizing his girlishness, I'm afraid he does.

SergeiL · 02/03/2021 21:30

I know it isn’t true... but I really want this to be a whole big demonstration by Eddie as to how ridiculous this is all getting.

Malteser71 · 02/03/2021 21:30

But wasn’t he wonderful twenty years ago?

Sigh!

MaudTheInvincible · 02/03/2021 21:40

a cross between Hagrid and Baby Jane

Oooh that's very very apt

DogsAreShit · 02/03/2021 21:41

He was. When I was an impoverished new graduate me and my flatmate wore our Eddie Izzard tape out, marvelling at his fresh new take on things, the surreal humour, the way he played around with words. The cross dressing aspect was cool too but to be honest having grown up in the 70s and 80s lots of guys did that anyway - he pushed the boundary by making it in comedy doing that though.

That's why it's even more of a headfuck that he now thinks he's female. I mean he came of age at a similar time to us. We've all already hashed out the blokes looking like girls, girls looking like blokes thing. Jfc, Rebel Rebel was in the charts forty years ago.

OhWhyNot · 02/03/2021 21:49

I’ve never found him as funny as he thinks he is always found him arrogant

Yes Baby Jane does come to mind bitter and grotesque

Justgivemewine · 02/03/2021 22:50

I used to like him.
I remember when he did the 27 marathons in 27 days, that was pretty impressive.
Unfortunately now I think he’s just a dick, with his gender fluid bollocks, and he can just do one.
He’s the kind of person that damages the situation for people with genuine gender dysmorphia.
Quite frankly it’s pathetic.

lljkk · 02/03/2021 23:07

Apparently EI (latest statement) prefers she/her but doesn't mind him/his...

EI had so much social capital. It feels severely squandered. Does he ever ponder that? Has she transcended caring about things like reputation or legacy? Too rich to care? Don't most of us want a purpose, and goals? I don't know what Izzard is trying to do any more.

Malteser71 · 02/03/2021 23:21

I loved his talent for mime, expression and words. And Mrs Badcrumble

pumpkinbump · 03/03/2021 01:12

He's disgusting.

Thousandmiles · 03/03/2021 01:31

I’m not sure what to think anymore but I do think that story about him getting changed in the toilets happened in the 80s, when he was in his early 20s and hadn’t come out yet. If that makes any difference - he’s not yelling at girls in toilets at the age of 59.

Now I'm nostalgic for the New Romantics era. Men in mascara eyeliner flouncy shirts, glam, and no mega fuss. It just was.

@MaudTheInvincible

I just emailed that quote to myself because it's the best explanation for what Izzard and his ilk do. Thank you for putting it on here Flowers

Surely it’s the fact that he’s male and presenting himself as the victim of three teenage girls — when using the women’s toilets to facilitate a fetish — that’s relevant, rather than whether he’s 23 or 59?

It’s the most astonishingly cynical and deluded piece of writing.
