… I'd forgotten how handsome he was. Looks about great in his suit, high heels. nail varnish, make up….

Eddie is in Girl Mode.

Agefluid too. Hmm

ErrolTheDragon · 01/03/2021 22:26

As a male lesbian he was interesting.

As a man happily wearing his clothes - whether dresses and heels or bloke stuff - he was interesting. But a 'male lesbian'?Hmm nope. That's where he lost the plot big time.

AnyFucker · 01/03/2021 22:27

I am younger than Eddie, am actually female, and don’t call myself a “girl”

Yeah the "girl" identity is creepy.

Compared with the way he is now, he was as innovative as Bowie in the 70s.

Maybe he's taken his eye off comedy in favour of politics. Can't wait for his campaign to be mayor of London. That will be even more embarrassing.

OhWhyNot · 01/03/2021 22:31

A man in s late 50’s who likes to wear make up and heels apparently is now in girl mode

Girl mode was does that even mean. If he wasn’t a famous comedian and the loner man who lives around the corner people would swerve him not applaud him

LizB62A · 01/03/2021 22:33

I can't watch Eddie any more sadly, used to love Eddie when he was a he and was honest

WalkersAreNotTheOnlyCrisps · 01/03/2021 22:37

The “girl” talk is disturbing at 59.

EwwSprouts · 01/03/2021 22:38

I think the gaslighting is evidenced by old boy bloke mode when there's money. (He's on record as saying not in girl mode when acting.)

@ErrolTheDragon

Not according to Eddie, so you might want to not misgender her.

According to Wikipedia, following their recent pronoun search&replace :

Izzard is genderfluidd^ and has said she prefers 'she' and 'her' pronouns, but "do[es]n't mind" 'he' and 'him'.[1][2]

Well, if Izzard doesn't mind then it should be absolutely fine for those of us who don't like mis-sexing to continue to call him 'he'.

Apart from apparently he does, as he had the presenters and artists painting him on a recent episode of Portrait Artist of the Year use ‘she’. Unfortunately none of the artists threw down their brushes and insisted on painting someone who wasn’t labouring under the delusion that his feelings about lipstick amount to the right to colonise women’s biological reality.
Jurassicperk · 01/03/2021 22:38

I've no time for misogyny and thus no time for him regardless of the 'mode' he's in.

SackofTurtles · 01/03/2021 22:40

In fairness, claiming you’re a girl because you’re a man who likes mascara is disturbing at any age.
rapthisup · 01/03/2021 22:42

He thinks being a girl is about wearing heels and make-up?

Tankflybosswalkjam · 01/03/2021 22:44

The Eddie Izzard situation gives me the rage.

As an educated, upper middle class white male, who has built a platform with all of those advantages, how can a change of pronouns suddenly make Eddie into a woman?

I don’t get it. I have tried so hard to get it and I don’t. And I have properly trans friends, and friends with trans kids. This is serious stuff, the stuff of people’s souls. But how very the fuck dare Eddie Izzard think that self identification is enough for women to make room on the bench on the basis of ego.

*for full disclosure I would still shag him.

BlueThistles · 01/03/2021 22:45

used to love him...

now I turn over the channel at the mere sight of him ...

Kljnmw3459 · 01/03/2021 22:48

I liked it when he said that men can wear dresses too.

AtrociousCircumstance · 01/03/2021 22:50

He’s a creepy, angry and confused man finding frisson in foisting his ‘gender fluidity’ on everyone around him.

I read he delighted in scaring teenage girls in a toilet. He was glad they were afraid, because they were obviously transphobic HmmAngry

White straight man lays claim to female lived experience (through dress up) and revels in women not being able to counter it without being labels bigots.

blue25 · 01/03/2021 22:51

He’s just ridiculous now. Very sad.

NiceGerbil · 01/03/2021 22:54

A while ago I saw him on TV doing a prog where he went to a country where the women have to cover up. One of those comic relief look how we're helping things maybe.

He had decided for some reason to ditch the makeup and nail varnish and wear masculine clothes.

At the time I commented to DH what a mystery that was...

Of course the women and girls in that country had no way of opting out of their situation.

It really pissed me off actually.

This, a thousand times.

Actually, I’m heartened by this thread, cause it enraged me that I thought he’d managed to retain ‘edgy national treasure status’ while laying claim to a protected group’s lived experience and labelling them bigoted if they objected. But it seems not.

Yay, Mn.

For those who haven't read his account of it, there's an annotated version here:

There’s no such thing as a male lesbian.

A man who is sexually attracted to women is a heterosexual man.

DogsAreShit · 01/03/2021 23:00

@AtrociousCircumstance urgh his account of shouting at teenage girls is horrendous. He actually thought he was perfectly justified. And he managed to get in that they were hanging around in the toilets smoking, from the pov that "hey, so they weren't using the toilets properly because smoking, but I'm a non judgemental type of creepy old man GIRL, so that's fine, I'm cool with that". That's right, this old bloke forgave those female children for their misuse of the female toilets which he categorically himself was not misusing, oh no, being just an innocent 59 year old male GIRL in the bogs with a bunch of teenagers. And then they went and intimidated him with their transphobia! After he'd been so nice and not judged them at all for smoking!

NiceGerbil · 01/03/2021 23:00

Toilets thing. It's got notes on it but couldn't be bothered to look further
