Currently unable to sleep so thought I would ask others!

I feel like I’ve seen everything that’s regularly recommended but I have a few TV shows I love that rarely ever come up in discussions. I figured I would share mine and maybe others could share theirs and we can all find something new to us!

The main ones that come to mind for me are:
Silicon Valley
Barry
Carnivale
Party Dowb

Almost all HBO so harder to get hold of but all absolutely brilliant and worth seeking out.

Also 30 Rock and The Shield - these come up more often but still not widely seen in the UK

What are yours?

Defending Jacob - Apple TV

fartypantsmummy · 26/02/2021 05:45

Midnight Diner - Toyoko Nights

Each episode tells the story of one of the regulars at a Midnight Diner - sometimes funny, sometimes sad - always delicious! Enjoy!

fartypantsmummy · 26/02/2021 05:47

Also Cloud 9 - American version of Trollied with America Ferrara (sorry can't spell her name) of Ugly Betty.

The Detectorists (Mackenzie Crook and Toby Jones and wonderful music by The Unthanks)
This Country (comedy set in the Cotswolds)
Also massive fan of Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

@crackofdoom - just like @JellyTeapot, I also loved Deutschland (new series on soon!) and Chernobyl so think you might really enjoy The Americans.

Pose - possibly my fav show ever. Set during 80s-90s New York about the ball culture black/Latino gays/trans. It's fabulous! Also touches on the aids crisis. (BBC/Netflix)
The Night Of - sheer brilliance (sky)
Cucumber - by the brilliant Russel t Davies, who wrote the present amazing show it's a sin (ch4)
See also banana and casanova
What we do in the shadows - so so funny, don't be put off if you don't like vampire stuff (BBC)

Tiktokersmiracle · 26/02/2021 09:42

More4 shows a few eps of certain shows from other countries, then puts the rest of their player.
One night I was up with DS as he had a awful chest infection so to keep myself awake I put the TV on and happened to carry on watching because the music was cool.

Was an Australian series called "Love Child" set in the 60s/70s in a hospital that had a house for fallen women attached where unmarried mum's had their babies then gave them up for adoption by consent or otherwise.

Was so amazing. So well scripted, brilliant acting in it.

Ended up tracking all the series down and watching the lot. It's finished now but it was just great.

No one else has ever heard of it though!

Mrsjayy · 26/02/2021 09:44

I love Call My Agent! It's been on my watch list for ages and just finishing season one now. I speak French, which helps, but you don't need to be able to.
In this house we LOVE This Is Us. Best thing ever on TV.

Intelligence comedy is great fun!

Mochudubh · 26/02/2021 10:08

@AlanThePig

We're loving Resident Alien too. First scripted comedy I've laughed out loud at for ages.

Mrsjayy · 26/02/2021 10:12

We are also watching Resident Alien it is funny but slightly sinister Grin

WhoPutThatThere · 26/02/2021 10:18

Also, if you like dark comedy, you should definitely watch Wilfred (the US remake with Elijah Wood, not the original Australian version)
Warped, funny, very, very good.

William and Mary was great, I wish it was still available to watch online without having to pay to rent it.
