Currently unable to sleep so thought I would ask others!

I feel like I’ve seen everything that’s regularly recommended but I have a few TV shows I love that rarely ever come up in discussions. I figured I would share mine and maybe others could share theirs and we can all find something new to us!

The main ones that come to mind for me are:
Silicon Valley
Barry
Carnivale
Party Dowb

Almost all HBO so harder to get hold of but all absolutely brilliant and worth seeking out.

Also 30 Rock and The Shield - these come up more often but still not widely seen in the UK

What are yours?

@MrsColinRobinson

Threesome
Me and DH was talking about this the other day. There was an episode where they were looking after a realistic baby doll that had me in stitches.
Socialistmisanthropist · 26/02/2021 21:35

The Beiderbecke Affair!! I loved that....blasto pasto

Socialistmisanthropist · 26/02/2021 21:37

@EmmaGrundyForPM is was brilliant wasn't it?. Never heard anyone talk about it.... mind you..anything on terrestrial seems increasingly obscure these days

@midsomermurderess

The number of people saying Detectorists suggests it was in fact hugely successful and widely watched, not some obscure find.
It won a BAFTA and yet not a single one of my friends (friendship group of 7 people) or any of my family had ever heard of it. Well loved by all those who watched it but not as popular/well known as a fan would think?
PatMustardsBigTool · 26/02/2021 22:27

@Northernshepherd

Winners & losers Aussie drama about old school friends than win lottery. I thought it was great but itv disagreed and stopped showing it.
Yeah I really liked this one! Shame it ended.
Smarticus · 26/02/2021 22:40

@Bloodypunkrockers

I thought of another oldie

Let the Blood Run Free

An Australian comedy that I have never known anyone else watch

I remember Let the Blood Run Free - late nights in the early 90s. DP and I would arrive home after nights out and find it hilarious. It was so bad it was good. Best enjoyed drunk.
PatMustardsBigTool · 26/02/2021 22:41

@supercritter

Weeds Sunset beach Revenge Enjoying Lie to Me atm
Loved sunset beach - so tacky and amazing! Thought Cole was sooo dreamy 😂 and Meg turned up in an episode of Friends. Ah, the 90s. Or maybe early 2000s?!
ChangedName4TheSakeOfIt · 26/02/2021 23:33

Ah yes, Sunset Beach. The créme de la créme of the newly born Channel 5! I recall running home for lunch time (school was at the end of my street) to catch the shenanigans of the gorgeous Mr Dimples himself, Cole Deschanel! During my GCSEs every spare period was spent at home watching Family Affairs then Sunset Beach.

@PatMustardsBigTool I think it was 1997.

Loved Sunset Beach & it's many many improbable plot lines. I really didn't like Meg (always wanted Ben to get back with back from the dead Maria).
Also loved the original Family Affairs, before they blew up the original family in that boat accident & overnight relocated the whole series setting from a town in Kent to a London suburb on a tube line.

Saviouronthreelegs · 26/02/2021 23:52

Seyit ve Sura .... A Turkish love story in Netflix Confused it's like 6 seasons long and full of ridiculous silences and all in subtitles and I became OBSESSED. It took over my life. It's about two wealthy Russians and their friends who had to escape during the revolution.

I'm going to have to name change now as I'm pretty sure I'm the only British person to have watched it and anyone who knows me in real life will know who I am now Grin

AledsiPad · 27/02/2021 00:02

Mindhunter
A Town Called Eureka
Warehouse 13
Fringe - fringe is hands down the best TV series I’ve ever seen.

Smartiesmaltesers · 27/02/2021 03:16

The Armstrong & Miller Show

FrenchyQ · 27/02/2021 05:27

Thought of some more

Psych
Dead like me
Heartbreak high

Pigwig10 · 27/02/2021 12:54

I loved Ghosts, binge watched each series Grin

TurquoiseDragon · 27/02/2021 12:57

@woodhill

I'm watching Sapphire &Steel on London live, I haven't seen it repeated ever so I'm quite enjoying it. It's quite creepy
Wow, will have to see if I can get it. I've never seen it repeated, although there were rumours of a reboot about 5 years ago.
ExcusesAndAccusations · 27/02/2021 13:20

Sapphire and Steel is also on Brit Box if you can get a free trial of that.

woodhill · 27/02/2021 13:32

Yes, it's been on since January. I've thoroughly enjoyed it as I didn't see all the episodes.

Phwoar! What a hunk!

SingToTheSky · 27/02/2021 18:05

I don’t know if anyone’s watched The trouble with Maggie Cole but I just had to share, since lots of people have mentioned Friday Night Dinner.

Anyway Mark Heap’s character actually said “Shalom?” in it - it was a pretty tenuous link to the plot so it was clearly a deliberate reference to FND. Made me laugh anyway and cheered my nerdy heart 😂 his character in this is so normal it was lovely to see a hint of Jim 😂

riotlady · 27/02/2021 18:11

Galavant! Medieval musical comedy, with Vinnie Jones playing the baddy’s henchman. It was genius.

Graphista · 27/02/2021 20:27

Rewatching lie to me again not watched it in a while.

Just been reminded that 2 time Oscar winner mahershala Ali is in an episode and also the fabulous Michael b Jordan is in it for a few episodes near the end (I think he was being lined up to become a main cast member when it was cancelled)

I LOVE "before they were famous" or when major actors are in stuff in minor roles

Twinkled · 28/02/2021 08:57

@LunaNorth this sounds great I will start watching

cordelia16 · 28/02/2021 20:37

@QVCismyJam

Waves to *@cordelia16* yep Chuck for us is a classic! Your list is basically what we've watched too Smile. We always say when going shopping "going to the Buy More" lol.

Have you tried?

Castle (with Nathan Fillion from Firefly and The Rookie tv series)? About a writer that follows a detective about and the cases they encounter. Sounds naff but is actually good. Can recommend it.

Also Covert Affairs is a good watch too. Dont know anyone who has seen it apart from my family though.

Waves back Haha, the Buy More is the best! I haven't tried Castle - thanks so much for the rec! Sounds like my kind of show. Also, wasn't Adam Baldwin in Firefly?? Will add Covert Affairs as well. Thanks! x
InsanityRocks · 28/02/2021 22:03

@BlackAmericanoNoSugar

I don't know anyone in real life who's seen Good Omens, which I find astonishing as it's bloody brilliant. I keep mentioning to people, but hardly anyone has Amazon Prime so they haven't seen it.

Nobody that I know has seen The Expanse either, but that's less surprising as it's a bit intense and sci fi isn't everybody's thing.

Thanks so much. On the strength of your recommendation, I've just watched the first episode of Good Omens. Exactly as you said.
