Your favourite TV series that no one else you know has seen

Currently unable to sleep so thought I would ask others!

I feel like I’ve seen everything that’s regularly recommended but I have a few TV shows I love that rarely ever come up in discussions. I figured I would share mine and maybe others could share theirs and we can all find something new to us!

The main ones that come to mind for me are:
Silicon Valley
Barry
Carnivale
Party Dowb

Almost all HBO so harder to get hold of but all absolutely brilliant and worth seeking out.

Also 30 Rock and The Shield - these come up more often but still not widely seen in the UK

What are yours?

American series shown early hours of Sunday morning.

Helped me through the worst time of my life.

I enjoyed the first season, then it got incredibly repetitive and I gave it up.

LOVE "Murdock mysteries" too. Quite often British actors pop up on that but I no longer have the channel that carries it

"Rake" I tried but couldn't get into. What I DID love was

"Republic of Doyle" a Canadian comedy drama PI show. So hard to describe but basically a dodgy laddish type runs his own PI firm and gets dragged into all sorts of capers! It's on Netflix

@midsomermurderess yes a lot of people are mentioning shows that were HUGE at time of release far from obscure!

Revenge and castle - also not obscure very very popular widely watched shows

Curlywurlyswirly · 26/02/2021 17:35

Scorpion. An eccentric genius forms an international network of super-geniuses to act as the last line of defense against the complicated threats of the modern world.
Only started watching it as I knew I had seen the lead actor in some other drama. Turns out he was Dr Guppy in casualty! Pretty good it was too.

MrsColinRobinson · 26/02/2021 17:50

Agree that some things mentioned are not at all obscure. Great maybe, but watched by many.

Does anyone know:
Testees - two guys make a living as human guinea pigs
Ed - feel good comedy about a lawyer who buys a bowling alley
Absolute Power - Stephen Fry in a PR firm

Lunde · 26/02/2021 17:50

Trapped - Icelandic drama shown on BBC4 - a series of murders, human trafficking, rape and fraud occur in a small town in Northern Iceland, a ferry full of passengers has just arrived and a major snow storm means that there are no routes out, and townsfolk and tourists are all trapped. The major crimes unit and forensics are stuck in Reykjavik leaving 3 small town cops to sort it out.

Murder One 1990s US drama about a lawyer representing a famous actor and the strange conspiracy around the case

The Sandhamn Murders - sort of a Swedish Midsomer Murders set in the Stockholm archipelago - especially the popular tourist island on Sandhamn - and where the cops turn up in boats

Ace of Wands 1970(ish) childerens' series about a tarrot card reader/stage magician solving mysteries

BexFirsttimemum · 26/02/2021 17:59

I have started watching :
Bates motel on iplayer
The fall on Netflix
And are BOTH brilliant !
You is brilliant too!! Netflix

woodhill · 26/02/2021 18:03

I sneakily watch Waterloo Road whilst DH isn't around - 1st series. Like the fashion and how old fashioned the mobiles are

SinkGirl · 26/02/2021 18:53

Bates Motel is brilliant - the first season is a bit lightweight (reminds me of some kind of teen drama with a bit of Psycho) but it gets so good after that. The last season crushed me.

I nearly mentioned Murder One upthread - I had S1 on DVD ages ago but no idea where it went!

The man from Atlantis - late 70s show about a man like a mermaid. Not many people have heard of it. X

QVCismyJam · 26/02/2021 19:25

Ahh sorry but you misunderstood the message about Castle. It was not put down as an obscure series to watch, but as a recommendaton for @cordelia16 if she had not seen it, as on her list she had lots of shows my family have seen and she had replied she liked Chuck. That's why I @ the message targetted at her. Thought that's what you did with the @ thingy.

Anyway not getting into an argument about what is classed as obscure or worthy of being included. Thought this was just a light hearted thread of a list of tv shows individuals loved or liked that no one we had interaction with watched. Nothing in OP says obscure only.

I loved Paper Dolls with Morgan Fairchild in the 80s and the original Tomorrow People but am sure other generations wont have heard of them and they would be deemed obscure, yet they were popular at the time. Potatoe Potato as my Gran used to say, no offence intended Smile

Juno2017 · 26/02/2021 19:40

Fringe

Hells74 · 26/02/2021 19:52

@MrsCrosbyNRTB

Humans

Hana

They were both so good!! I don’t know anyone who’s watched them.

Also a dubbed from the original German series when I was a child called Silas, about a young boy and his beautiful horse. The intro music was ace!

Oh Silas!! I loved that and nobody I've asked has seen it!! It was on during the summer holidays 😀

I have - Patrick Duffy in yellow shorts
Bloodypunkrockers · 26/02/2021 20:00

I also used to obsess on my own about The Oldest Rookie

I've never come across anyone else who watched it

TurquoiseDragon · 26/02/2021 20:03

I grow up in the 70s, I remember Man from Atlantis. My mum was hooked.

In fact, writing this out I've just had a lightbulb moment. The tv actors or singers she liked were all of a similar type. EG, she liked the original Hulk series with Bill Bixby, who was similar in type to Patrick Duffy. And there were others I can't remember the names of, who were similar in type.

Well, well, well. If mum were still here, I'd be giving her a gentle ribbing.... Grin

Socialistmisanthropist · 26/02/2021 20:20

woodhill · 26/02/2021 20:24
