How often have you been leaving the house?

Not a TAAT but inspired by another one!

How often have you been going out of the house over the past few weeks? And what's your situation wrt schooling / kids / work etc?

I work pt and have young kids (youngest is a baby, eldest mid-primary) and we go out every day otherwise I'd LOSE IT. Having thought about this, I realise that with the ice, DH isn't getting out for his usual morning cycles and so has spent all day every day Mon - Fri in the house for the last 2 weeks.

I'm on furlough, again, dh is redundant and our primary aged dc are both being home-schooled.

I've been to the shop a few times recently, seen my dad and then my mum, been to the dentist, been to the gp and I have been out a few times on my own to take photos of my local-ish area.

Parker231 · 15/02/2021 20:55

Am wfm but go out for an hour run every day. One of us takes the dog for a morning and evening walk. Weekly trip for supermarket shopping.
Can’t wait to go out for a coffee with friends or out with DH for a meal.

Wtfdidwedo · 15/02/2021 20:55

I work from home Monday to Friday with the occasional trip to the office, probably once a fortnight. I drive my children to nursery/childminder four days a weeks and drive to the shops once or twice a week. I spend about an hour not in a car outside of the house a week at the moment. It's too cold and depressing, and my preschoolers aren't interested in walking the same half a mile path outside our house anymore.

We leave the house everyday. 3 kids at home (no school) & a dog to walk! I go to work 2 days a week & DH goes to work 5 days a week so leaving the house feels quite normal...

Heatherjayne1972 · 15/02/2021 20:58

Tbh My life hasn’t changed much
School run twice a day. Work every day
Fetch my eldest from work
Weekly shopping - I always did that alone anyway as I prefer it

Doing my parents shopping and leaving it on their step instead of going in for a cuppa is the only different thing

Clearly I am very boring

Jasperjosephjulian · 15/02/2021 20:58

Every day for work and to walk the dog. No children.

SmidgenofaPigeon · 15/02/2021 20:58

@StitchingGirl are you shielding? Confused

littlepieces · 15/02/2021 20:59

I work from home, live in a small flat with DP, no kids. I go out every lunch time for a 30ish min walk. Every other day I go for an early morning 5k-10k run or a bike ride. We live on a busy main road and being stuck in a tiny space (currently working in the bedroom so spending 90% of my life in the same room!) surrounded by the constant traffic noise is driving me up the wall.

We've not been into any shops or anywhere else since the start of December as we've been lucky to be able to get all food and essentials delivered.

CoronaIsWatching · 15/02/2021 21:01

Every 2 or 3 days to buy food. I didn't go out for a daily walk before all of this so I don't see why I should just because of lockdown

StrikeWhileTheCoffeeIsHot · 15/02/2021 21:01

Shielding and go out once or twice a day. Always to feed/care for my parent and a few times a week for a short drive (less than 5 minues) to walk up a road and chat seperetly to 3 of my friends who live on the same road.

fairydustandpixies · 15/02/2021 21:02

Went out on 17th December for an MRI and last Tuesday for physio. Live alone, order all groceries online every two to three weeks.

fairydustandpixies · 15/02/2021 21:03

Oops physio was actually two weeks ago. How time flies...! 🙄

StitchingGirl · 15/02/2021 21:03
@StitchingGirl are you shielding? Confused
No, but I am disabled. Nothing but food shops are open so I have nowhere to go. I've seen so many posts on here about idiot couples shopping together blah blah blah that it's made me worry I'd get comments if I went out with my DH to Tesco.

AlwaysLatte · 15/02/2021 21:04

I visit my Dad every weekday, and my Mum, who's further away, 1-2 times a week. But I'm being super careful about only going out if necessary so otherwise it's just one supermarket trip a week for my mum (I get ours delivered) and about 1-2 trips to the GP for medications each week. Exercise is dog walking in the fields next to our house.

glitterbubbles · 15/02/2021 21:04

Daily - work full time (NHS), on one of my days off I go out to do the food shop, on the other we will tend to go for a walk

Okokokbear · 15/02/2021 21:05

Wfh probably once a week at most as realistically shopping lasts longer than a week

Pyewhacket · 15/02/2021 21:05

I generally work 4x 12 hour shifts in a row, sometimes 5 depending if we are short of training ITU staff. On my days off I try and catch-up on my sleep.

My kids are 18,16 &14. My husband does everything : cook, cleaner, tuition supervisor, entertainments officer, stable boy.

RedskyBynight · 15/02/2021 21:06

wfh. Go out once a day for a walk, either at lunchtime or after work (go for a longer walk at weekends). Drive to the supermarket once a week and also take DD to medical appointments (approx once a fortnight).

I go out more than anyone else in the house - DD only goes out to her medical appointments; DS only to his very part time job (once a fortnight) and once a week he'll go for a walk. DH does a top up shop once a week and a walk a couple of times.
I'm going slowly mad with being in the house all the time but it doesn't seem to affect anyone else.

SmidgenofaPigeon · 15/02/2021 21:06

Oh, @StitchingGirlif you wanted to go to the shop with your DH- you definitely wouldn’t get any comments. It’s advised to shop along if you’re able, it’s absolutely fine to go with someone if not!

I see able-bodied couples shop together all the time, no one bats an eyelid, they join the queue like everyone else if the shop is too full and then get waved in. Never seen anyone comment, outside the shop or in, and your circumstances are different as presumably you need DH to help.

needadvice54321 · 15/02/2021 21:08

I work 3 days a week, away from home. Other than that a daily dog walk and probably one shopping trip. Height of excitement!

Miseryl · 15/02/2021 21:08

Every day. Work out of the home 4 days a week and go for runs/walks the other days.

Wineiscooling · 15/02/2021 21:08

Every day. Either for work, shopping, getting kids out and exercised and the dog needs a daily walk too. I would go mad if I couldn't go out and luckily have not had Covid or had to isolate since all this started. I really feel for those shielding. It must be awful and it must feel scary out there when you have carefully shielded. Actually my life hasn't changed massively! Obviously miss going places with the kids other than the local walks and I miss meeting my friends but we've kept busy as a family. My mum is in my bubble so I still see her but did try to keep my distance when infection rates are high as I didn't want to pass anything to her especially as I'm a key worker. I think we're all looking forward to spring now though

EmmaC78 · 15/02/2021 21:09

Every day as I have a horse I need to look after. Apart from that about once every two weeks to go to a supermarket and once a week to dog walk with a friend.

SausageCrush · 15/02/2021 21:09

I force myself out 6 days a week for a walk because I recognise that without it I would start to lose it.
I'm out for at least an hour slithering along the local canal or park in rain or ice.
I work from home and have a teen. Dh and I take turns to do the shopping.
I also go out to visit my 93 year old Df once a week. He has carers and was shielding, but got so upset when I didn't see him for weeks that he said life wasn't worth living.

RachelHRD · 15/02/2021 21:10

When I have my kids which is 8/14 I walk the dog 2/3 times daily (no garden). I'm home schooling Dd 11 and we try and get a daily bike ride weather permitting. I collect my shopping once a week and maybe pop into shop for extra milk/bits once a week.
When I don't have my kids I bubble with my boyfriend at his, only go out for exercise with him.
Occasionally meet a friend for a SD walk.
I would go insane if I couldn't get out!!
