How often have you been leaving the house?

Not a TAAT but inspired by another one!

How often have you been going out of the house over the past few weeks? And what's your situation wrt schooling / kids / work etc?

I work pt and have young kids (youngest is a baby, eldest mid-primary) and we go out every day otherwise I'd LOSE IT. Having thought about this, I realise that with the ice, DH isn't getting out for his usual morning cycles and so has spent all day every day Mon - Fri in the house for the last 2 weeks.

I go to work 3 days a week. On WFH days I try to get out for a walk, and always walk at the weekend unless the weather is really foul. We have secondary age dcs but we're making sure they get out of the house at least every couple of days - their mental and physical health needs it. Either they come for a walk with us, go together or meet their permitted one friend to go for a walk or a bike / scoot.

Caspianberg · 16/02/2021 18:11

Every day.
On maternity with a baby. I take him out virtually every morning and every afternoon if weather permits.

We go to the shops as needed. Bank, bakery, supermarket. Other Shops where I live reopened two weeks ago, so we also have been shopping for baby clothes.
I went to the council office, town hall, and embassy last week as required
We meet up with friends outside recently also. A walk together last weekend, and today. It’s good baby now can see people a bit closer and interact.

I walk the dog on an evening. Not very far anymore as he is 15 years old so not up for a too long a walk. Supermarket once a week (sometimes twice if I really have to) and I run too. I haven't been for a run for a while now as I had a niggle in my hip which was made worse with running. Can't wait to get back to it.

I'd go crazy if I didn't get out at all.

Up until 2 weeks ago I was wfh full time (am now on mat leave, baby due any day now) and I would go out for a lunchtime walk for 30-45 mins at least 3 times Mon-Fri, couldn't always manage it every day due to meeting clashes. Then usually a longer one (1-2hrs) with OH or a friend on Saturday or Sunday and often a trip to the supermarket on the other weekend day.

Now on mat leave I try to keep that up as much as I can, but occasionally I might not leave the flat if the weather is horrendous or if I've been busying myself with a lot of housework/sorting so I feel like I've been reasonably active. I'm obviously still going out for midwife appointments too.

I am another who's thoroughly bored of going for walks around the same old areas, but I make myself do it as I know it's better for mental and physical health to get out. Don't mind if it's cold but can't face it if it's peeing down!

Staying indoors all day makes me feel so tired and lethargic. I think it's good to get out once a day, even if for a short walk at a quiet time of day. I go out every day to walk my dog, then to the supermarket 2/3 times a week. At weekends I often go out for another walk with a friend or my Mum. I've also been for a couple of medical appointments this month.

notacooldad · 16/02/2021 18:52

I half work from home. Sometime in the week I have to be in the works building, the rest of the working week I work from home but I go out a lot to meet the families I work with as part of my job. The neighbours must think I'm in and out all the time without realising it is work.
Apart from work I only go out for a walk or cycle. DH does the shopping.
I have only met one friend recently and that was outside. I met her because her marriage had just broke up and needed someone to talk to face to face. I am going to see her tomorrow.

blackheartsgirl · 16/02/2021 19:12

Every day at least twice sometimes 3 or 4

Before any one jumps on me and screams covid at me. I work in 2 different keyworker jobs. I go shopping once a week and I take my kids to their dads and pick up again once a week. I also try and go for a walk everyday.

I'm expected to be reported every day tbh

blackheartsgirl · 16/02/2021 19:13

Oh and in term time I take dd to school and pick up again so that adds another twice daily our the house to the grand total so some days its 5 or 6

PickAChew · 16/02/2021 19:14

Teens, both with SN. Leave the house most days unless the weather is foul or pavements really slippery.

blackheartsgirl · 16/02/2021 19:14

Christ I wish this place had an edit button..my keyworker jobs mean I work out the house

Echobelly · 16/02/2021 19:17

WFH, kids at home. I think there are usually 2 days a week i don't leave the house at all. I might go outside for exercise 2-3 days a week, to supermarket or local shops 2-3 times a week. Every other week i go out to do some volunteering for a few hours.

gracelessladyhottramp · 16/02/2021 19:33

Two young kids and we get out for a walk most days. Since the evenings are lighter we often do a walk at lunch and the park in the evening. It's half term this week and we've been going for a take away hot chocolate too - so 2-3 times a day.

BiddyPop · 16/02/2021 19:33

I am wfh and busy with it so tend to get as far as the bins or throwing coffee grounds into the back garden as my fresh air. Occasionally I have managed to get a walk in the evening.

On the weekend, I have been out 1 day usually, to get lunch for teen dd and any things we need (food shopping, stationary shop for envelopes/pens, pet shop for bird food, that sort of thing). Maybe a walk as well. Or maybe we just take a scenic route to get to the health food place she wants food from to get a change of scene (just circuitous route around the locality in the car - not going far).

Vintagevixen · 16/02/2021 19:50

Every day, sometimes 2 or 3 times. Being considerate and SD every time, but no one is telling me how often to leave my house per day.

If I want to I will go for a walk in the park, come home for lunch, then take a trip to the supermarket, home to drop off then back out for a stroll on the seafront.

MustardMitt · 16/02/2021 19:54

Once a week for a Big Shop.

Have been trying for every other day for a short walk round the park but have not managed it many times.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 16/02/2021 20:05

Every day. I work in a factory so can't WFH and DS goes to school.

Megan2018 · 16/02/2021 20:10

At least twice a day, sometimes 3.
WFH, but DD at nursery so I drop her off, then in the evening I go to the stables to look after my horse (DH collects DD). If I have time I’ll have a short lunchtime walk too.
At weekends and Mondays I go to the stables twice a day, plus walk/park and supermarket if needed.

LadyDanburysCane · 16/02/2021 21:01

I work in school so have to leave the house to do that. DS hasn’t left the house since mid December. DH goes to the local shop once a week for milk and bread between online deliveries. He and I go for walks at weekends but have no contact with anyone else.

ptumbi · 17/02/2021 07:39

@OverTheRainbow88

It’s really worrying how may adults and kids aren’t going out every day!
I'm more amazed that barely anyone has come on here crying and shaking at the number of people who ARE going out more than once a day!

No screams of 'Grannykillers' anywhere.

FredUpNow · 17/02/2021 09:06

I hope we are past that!

FredUpNow · 17/02/2021 09:08

The message should be get out in any upcoming spring sunshine, if you can do so without bumping into folk.

Changi · 17/02/2021 09:16

It’s really worrying how may adults and kids aren’t going out every day!

Why? Pre covid, not everybody would have gone out every day of the week. I certainly didn't.

AlrightTreacle · 17/02/2021 09:32

Every day: either to work (work 4 or 5 shifts a week atm, am a nurse), or for a walk. My boyfriend likes to do the weekly shop as he works from home and doesn't go anywhere else in the week, apart from walks. Before covid he would be out the house pretty much every day for work or social things, and has struggled a bit with wfh for almost a year.

I hated not being able to work from home last March/April, but now I'm actually quite grateful as it keeps me in a routine, gets me out the house and seeing people.

splishsplashsploshs · 17/02/2021 09:37

Once recently when the milk wasn't delivered as I had run out of UHT. Before that, I think it was not long before Christmas.

anothernamereally · 17/02/2021 12:06

We've been asked to go out if essential or for exercise- for some this will mean going out several times a day, for others several times a month. Wouldn't the world be boring if we were all the same
