How often have you been leaving the house?

Not a TAAT but inspired by another one!

How often have you been going out of the house over the past few weeks? And what's your situation wrt schooling / kids / work etc?

I work pt and have young kids (youngest is a baby, eldest mid-primary) and we go out every day otherwise I'd LOSE IT. Having thought about this, I realise that with the ice, DH isn't getting out for his usual morning cycles and so has spent all day every day Mon - Fri in the house for the last 2 weeks.

OH and I are both working full time at home and trying to homeschool two children.

We try and get out fir a walk at least once a day. Twice if the weather isn't too bad.

Fresh air and exercise are vital to our physical and mental health.

The last week we've also been our sledging.

One of my dc has a school place as SN. So we have to do school run twice a day. I work part time (from home atm).

Three times a week I drop kids and then later on pick them up from their dads. Two of these times are on the pick up school run. Sometimes I take myself for a walk after I have dropped them at their dads.

On a weekend day I have the dc we go for a walk, sometimes with our support bubble.

Once a week I do a small food shop for my parents. One day at weekend I visit them and do necessary basic tasks they can not manage, stay up to an hour.

(For my shopping I usually get a delivery as have back problem and find going up stairs to my flat with heavy bags a problem).

Once about every 10-14 days I pop into work for an hour, to drop stuff off and collect more work. Work make sure one person is only allowed in the office at any given time.

Most days we do try and get out for a walk.

Didnt go out today though.

MinesAPintOfTea · 15/02/2021 22:42

Most lunch times we go out for a light jog or walk. DS (8) needs to exercise, fresh air and I can do with screen free time. I am stretching my part time hours over more days though, so I have a two hour lunch and don’t want that eroding.

Far far too often for my liking (perpetually exhausted key worker). Sorry for all those suffering with cabin fever though, genuinely. I'd love to swap nonetheless.

Fauvist · 15/02/2021 22:46

I work from home 5 hrs a day. I haven't been to a shop more than five or six times since March. I do go for a run or long walk about three times a week, though. One younger teenager, homeschooling very sensibly, doesn't need much input. I try to send the child out for as much activity as possible (not near too many other humans, though, only one friend at a time for an actual walk).

KevinSausage · 15/02/2021 22:46

I go out for a walk on Saturday and Sunday but that's it. Working (more than) full time from home and can't bring myself to go out in the cold and the dark during the week

Bloodybridget · 15/02/2021 22:48

Most days just once for a short walk. The weather isn't tempting me to be out more, and DP is still recovering from a broken ankle so can't walk far or fast.

AprilThe8th · 15/02/2021 22:48

Every day.I work in term time and go for regular walks.Ds goes to school thankfully.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 15/02/2021 22:50

Wfh. Walk the DC to school and back daily (30 min round trip each way). Live adjacent to a large park - walk it at least once per weekend, sometimes mid week after school. Walk round the supermarket once every 10 days or so.

mootymoo · 15/02/2021 22:52

I go to work 5 days a week, not everyone has the luxury of wfh!

I have cabin fever. I’m not a key worker, but have worked 12 hours a day since last March, 5 days a week. Haven’t had a single days annual leave since last March either. Plus homeschooling 2 primary aged children, and looking after a toddler. So also permanently exhausted, despite not being a keyworker.
GintyMcGinty · 15/02/2021 23:49

not everyone has the luxury of wfh!

Whilst I personally enjoy working from home - some of my colleagues detest it and their mental health is suffering - they'd give anything to go to work and regard it as hell not luxury.

Thistletea · 15/02/2021 23:57

Wfh, no kids at home. I'm struggling mentally and struggling to go outside lately. Trying to work myself up to go for a walk tomorrow morning.

MrsJBaptiste · 16/02/2021 07:39

WFH so I have to get out at some point every day.

I have an hour power walk after work (whatever the weather) then a couple of longer walks at the weekend. Go to the supermarket once a week for the 'big shop' then call into the local shops for weekend bits on a Friday/Saturday.

Basically just walking, walking, walking though!

sunflowersandbuttercups · 16/02/2021 07:41

Every weekday as I work out of the house (dog walker) and have my own dog to walk too.

DH does the walks at weekends so if the weather is crap I'll stay home. I don't feel bad though as I'm normally out walking 2-3 hours during the week!

katienana · 16/02/2021 07:44

I take the kids/dog out for a walk daily then if I need milk or bread I'll pop to the shop for that. I sometimes go for a second walk on my own to give me a break from the kids but only when dh is there. sahm of two, dh works away 4 days a week.

Radglags · 16/02/2021 07:47

Often twice a day.
Once to ‘exercise’ the toddler - let her run around at a local park / nature spot etc
And once to exercise me - toddler in pram and brisk walk of 40-60 mins. DH wfh so he often joins us for this walk.

StormBaby · 16/02/2021 07:50

I work every day in an office doing something non essential

FredaFox · 16/02/2021 07:52

Once a week roughly, might be the post office to send work things or the local shop, the last two weeks I’ve made the effort to walk to the next village more to get out than anything
I’m saying with my shielding mum do don’t want to be too risky

MangoButterFingers · 16/02/2021 07:53

WFH. Walk the dog twice a day.

FredaFox · 16/02/2021 07:53

Pressed too soon, so don’t want to be risky but I’m starting to struggle so getting out for my mh

KatherineJaneway · 16/02/2021 07:55

Every few days. Usually for a walk which is my exercise for that day or to buy food. When the weather improves I'll be out everyday.

grannycake · 16/02/2021 07:56

WFH full time and DH works away Mon-Fri. All shopping delivered ut I take the puppy out twice a day - once for about 30 minutes around 8:30 and again for an hour at 1:00, Odd shopping trip on Sat am - e.g. Home Bargains or Pets at Home but not every week

DipSwimSwoosh · 16/02/2021 08:05

How can you not go out? I know rhe message is to stay at home but if I don't get some fresh air I would be so depressed. Even a walk around the block where you go nowhere near other people and touch nothing?
I either walk the kids to school or take them for a walk depending on the day. Then I will either have a walk on my lunchbreak or at night.
I don't go into shops as I am claustrophobic and avoid wearing masks.

TooManyAnimals94 · 16/02/2021 08:06

As the username suggests I've got five ponies and two goats that need checking twice a day but I take the dog and walk her at the same time. Will also pop to the shop on my way home sometimes as we're pretty rubbish at doing a big shop. Will occasionally see a friend for a dog walk. Never been more grateful for my animals to be honest!
