I've started a new one. Please join us and share the boring and mundane things happening in your world. It will be calming for all.

Wow @forgetthehousework - that’s really impressive. If it’s not too exciting for this thread, would you like to share a picture? Perhaps we could all put some bunting our for @soddingkitten’s fixed boiler?

@Sunbird24, fingers and toes crossed that your boiler is foiled very quickly.

The veggie chilli was nice.

Sunbird24 · 17/03/2021 19:55

Ooh well done @forgetthehousework! I need to make myself a new peg bag as I accidentally left mine outside over winter and it’s now got holes in. It has lasted me about 28 years though so it’s not done too badly! I don’t have my own sewing machine so I’d need to borrow my mum’s, or if I ask nicely she might even do it for me...

MissConductUS · 17/03/2021 20:03

math, did you just have to fill out the FAFSA or the College Board one too? I had to do both for DD and the College Board one was like a financial colonoscopy. Smile They wanted to know what cars we owned.

We went to the park this afternoon. Weather was gorgeous so I treated the grandchildren to ice creams.
I'm having my vaccination on Saturday, I was very surprised to get the text.

soddingkitten · 17/03/2021 21:22

Thanks for the fireworks Prok.

Sorry for passing on the broken boiler baton to Sunbird. 😞

Sodding had a cuddle with the plumber before he left. 😄 I was pleased he was so friendly with him because Sodding’s had hardly any opportunities for socialising beyond our immediate family. It is his 1st birthday soon. I will have to update my nickname.

mathanxiety · 17/03/2021 21:45

I did the FAFSA a few months ago. Today was the CSS Profile, and I'm waiting for them to send me the ID I need to upload docs to IDOC. Apparently it can take the CollegeBoard a few hours to set up the IDOC profile at times of heavy traffic. Or so they said.

Years and years ago I remember doing all of this on paper forms and rushing out to the PO with big envelopes plastered with extra stamps so there would be no excuse for the US Mail not to deliver them.

One of DDs transcripts (which had to be mailed from her current university) didn't arrive, and she spent two hours today chasing down human voices on the other end of the phone trying to get them to email it.

Everything for one particular college is due on Friday. DD told me this yesterday.

I have actual proof from Carmax that my car is officially worth $500 Grin

mathanxiety · 18/03/2021 03:47

LOL, after much prodding all evening, DD decided to double check her list for additional CSS colleges and I ended up filling out a questionnaire about the family car.

Frownette · 18/03/2021 05:23

Champagne that is fantastic, you must be so proud.

Has everyone had their jab yet? I was so happy mine was painfree. Two of my friends are getting it done this week, we're getting back to normal life one by one day by day. I'm doing a mental checklist of when people I know get through.

HelenaJustina · 18/03/2021 06:28

Haven’t had mine, not due for a while yet due to age and following warnings of a supply squeeze at the end of March, will now be later still.

I know what you mean about ticking people off @Frownette so glad my DParents, grandparents, MiL, DH (occupational jab) have all had their first. And the majority of our school staff will have been done by the end of March which is reassuring too.

Champagneforeveryone · 18/03/2021 07:45

Like helenajustina I'm far too young to have received my jab yet Wink

Work training day via Teams today. This is a new thing for us and apparently they will require webcams to be turned on as well Hmm

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 18/03/2021 08:03

Good morning all, it's cold but sonny here.

DH's papers are still on the big table, the wheels he needs to return and exchange for the correct ones are now used as paper weights.

Spudlet · 18/03/2021 09:15

Morning all. Something on my bike has just gone snap, and now I can’t shift the front gears up to the biggest ring... I am both relieved that this has happened on the morning that it’s going to the bike shop, and highly annoyed that it happened at all 😠 Hoping not to get stuck on the tiny gear on the way to the bike shop or I’ll be pedalling 19 to the dozen and making no headway whatsoever 🤬

I’m hoping there was no one within earshot when I was swearing at my bike and trying to get it to shift up 😳

Squirrel26 · 18/03/2021 10:16

I couldn’t find my keys last night, but I found them this morning hanging up under my coat. Usually I find them still in the lock on the outside of the door, so at least it was an improvement on that.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 18/03/2021 10:27

That's were i used to find mine, too, until I attached them to my bag by a chain. I almost always use the same bag, so they are safe.

DD just started to hoover, not because she's getting houseproud all over sudden. She is procrastinating on uni work.

Champagneforeveryone · 18/03/2021 13:03

As it turns out, training via Teams at home is enormously productive. I have done numerous small housework type jobs while listening in, and there has been no requirement to turn on my webcam (so tidying my dresser and wearing a decent top was wasted)

I'm actually considering getting the ironing board out, but was concerned there may be a sudden requirement to "go live" and I would be stuck shuffling my laundry pile quickly out of shot Grin

MissConductUS · 18/03/2021 13:03

Good day, lovely people of the thread. The yellow high vis ladder has reappeared outside my office.

We're in for a cool, rainy day here. At least it seems a bit more like spring and it'll be rain and not snow.

Frownette I've had both of my Pfizer doses and DH has had his first. My mum, DB and MIL are also finished. Now it's wait and see for the DC. I'm hoping DD's uni will do hers before she leaves campus in May, but that's looking like a long shot at this point.

We had takeaway last night. I had a lobster roll and fries chips. That was really good. Smile

Good day Miss - was it again accompanied by matching hi viz men?

The non hi viz builders in our yard have prevented the bin men from getting at the yellow bins. Our caretaker had words.

It started raining.

We have a fortnightly meeting with the head honchos where they disable cameras and mics and questions must be posted in chat, aka ironing hour. 😄

I drove to work this morning so I could return some equipment and have been marooned on endless Teams meetings. My current step count is

We have both chips and fries in the UK, MissC. Chips are chunky. Fries are skinny like McDonalds’. Actually, we have a third variant which is the wedge. We have potato-product diversity.

Chips and wedges with curry sauce in my previous post. It was the only way I could sift out all the google images of crisps. Hmm

HelenaJustina · 18/03/2021 14:39

@Prokupatuscrakedatus that was such a calming post!

MissConductUS · 18/03/2021 15:35

Prok, there were no high vis men. There were two low vis men who used the ladder to replace some florescent light tubes that had failed.

Sodding, we have wedges and something called steak fries, which are mega chunky fries. Medium chunky and thin are referred to collectively as just fries. Mine last night were the medium chunky style, like your chips. I have never had them with curry sauce, just ketchup. They were very good, but the real treat was the lobster roll. Two came in my takeaway and I save one for lunch today. Grin. Do you have lobster rolls in the UK. Food of the gods they are.

I am back in the office more or less every day, so no ironing for me. Sad

A man in high vis came into my office yesterday and fiddled with the pipes behind the sink. That’s the same sink that a different man in high vis fiddled with just before Christmas. It must be the best attended-to sink in the UK. Some other men in high vis are installing two portacabins in the car park with the aid of a crane.

I thought about sofas for a bit. It made me feel a bit panicky, so I stopped.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 18/03/2021 15:46

That is fun - potatoe lore
Chips = crisps = party food / junk food
Pommes frites = french fries
Spalten / Wedges = bigger chunks of deep fried potatoes
Bratkartoffeln = pre boiled potatoes usually left overs fried in a pan with smoked ham and onions
Frische Scheiben / Blinde Fische = uncooked potatoes fried as above
Pellkartoffeln = potatoes boiled in their skins
Kartoffeln = peeled and cooked in salty water or boullion
Kumpir = baked potato you get at a special Turkish shop to take home

I buy the long life ambient foil packs of this for emergencies (days when I can’t be bothered to cook). They featured in my Brexit stockpile too. 😄
