There’s also no internet as some scrotebags tried to steal the phone cable that feeds my village last night...

goose1964 · 15/03/2021 20:50

My grandson shouted go away pigeons at the noisy ones on the roof.

sproutsandparsnips · 15/03/2021 21:13

I'm impressed at the creative crocheters (is that the correct term?).
Well done to your daughter Prokupatuscrakedatus!
I am disappointed to report that the Welsh cakes my DS (age 11) made for me yesterday unaided whilst I was in church have all gone. I only had 2 yesterday. I was looking forward to a little treat after tea but someone has eaten them all........

HelenaJustina · 16/03/2021 06:16

@Prokupatuscrakedatus that is great, she must be really proud of herself.

@sproutsandparsnips you need a full CSI style work-up to find the culprit!

I accidentally got up 15 minutes early this morning.

Therainisback · 16/03/2021 07:32

Gah! Awake since 4.30, nodded off eventually ( after 6.10 because I remember looking at the clock), then in a lovely sleep when the alarm clock went off. Sigh. Now feel grumpy.
And it's raining.

Therainisback · 16/03/2021 07:49

Sorry, that was a very self-putting post. To be positive I'm drinking tea out of my new Mothers Day pink mug. And here are some daffodils Smile

Therainisback · 16/03/2021 07:50

Self -pitying even.
I give up.

DoctorTwo · 16/03/2021 08:07

I have a CT scan this morning. On the plus side, I get to travel outside the town I live in. :o

Champagneforeveryone · 16/03/2021 08:16

helenajustina, it's not like you can really achieve a great deal in 15 minutes is it?!

doctortwo, I had a letter which I fleetingly hoped was a reminder for my smear test as it would get me out somewhere different- how times have changed Grin

I'm going to collect my rotted manure later #rockandroll

It's also the first day of the Cheltenham Festival. I recently started matched betting so this is a source of great excitement to me- sorry all Wink

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 16/03/2021 08:22

Woke up to the heating not working - we had to refill, now it does.
Cold, grey and rainy here. I think I stay in (well on) my bed and do nothing for a while.

Spudlet · 16/03/2021 09:56

@Prokupatuscrakedatus Well done to your DD!

@Sunbird24 Gah to cable thieving scrotes Angry

I have come back from dropping DS off and assembled all my tools to replace his brake cable, only to realise that the cable isn’t the issue, he’s managed to slightly buckle his wheel 😳 I think I’ve found the bent spoke (it really is only a tiny bit) but I don’t have any of the tools or parts to attempt a replacement so I’ll ask the man in the bike shop when I take mine in for a service on Thursday. Am now sitting on a dust sheet in the living room surrounded by tools, because I can’t be bothered to go back to the garage to put them all away 🙈

Mind you, at least I realised before I started taking anything to bits or cutting any wires or anything, so there’s that.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 16/03/2021 10:16

DD says thank you to all! She really is happy about this unexpected result.

I will buy myself a new desk base, one that moves up and down. At the moment I use a wooden kitchen table. Lovely but impractical, especially at the moment.

spudlet - That's a lucky escape!

The workmen drying the cellar walls are not wearing hiviz - I feel cheated!

Mintjulia · 16/03/2021 11:42

spudlet I'm dead impressed you would have a go at replacing a brake cable.

I made hot cross buns last night and got to the bit where you pipe crosses on the top with flour paste. I'm useless with a piping bag, the mess is indescribable, but I discovered that if I use an old calpol syringe instead of a piping bag, the crosses spread out nicely and they look perfect. Smile

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 16/03/2021 12:00

That is inventive.
The traces of my last piping bag effort are still on the kitchen ceiling.

Squirrel26 · 16/03/2021 13:33

That’s really inventive!
I’ve got a desk that moves up and down. I move it up and down a lot. (Mainly because I like to cross my legs and I need room for my knees.)

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 16/03/2021 14:11

Squirrel DH sent me a link. I can fit a deskboard of exactly the right breadth and length for my stuff and I think I'll do it.

We will have potatoes, köfte and green bean salad for midday, or so I am told.

Squirrel26 · 16/03/2021 14:21

It’s surprisingly useful, @Prokupatuscrakedatus. I can also work standing up, which I sometimes do. (I spend a loooot of time just sitting at my desk otherwise.)

I’m in a meeting where someone is doing a presentation and keeps saying ‘genomic hub’. However their accent makes it sound a bit like ‘drama club’. Which was confusing, until I realised.

HelenaJustina · 16/03/2021 16:31

I arrived at the bus stop to pick up DC1 before they called to nag me 😇

There has been an accident, the bus had to turn around and re route, I’m still waiting at the bus stop. Angry can’t help thinking about my to-do lists at work and home which I could have made a 20 minute dent in!

wildthingsinthenight · 16/03/2021 16:33

Just wandered round the garden with a cup of tea and I spied bluebells

Spudlet · 16/03/2021 17:16

Just filled in the EHCP form with DS. This form has to cover people up to the age of 25, so you have to allow for that, but the questions really weren’t working for DS. Asked what was important to him, he said the Sun (I mean he’s not wrong) and when I asked him about his hopes, goals and aspirations, he said when he is grown up he wants some grown up teeth and a toy bulldozer. I’ve put all that on the form, because really, what can you do? 🙈

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 16/03/2021 17:54

what's an EHCP?

HelenaJustina · 16/03/2021 18:10

Education Health Care Plan, it stipulates specific therapies, support and assistance required by the holder. The plan gives schools access to some additional funding, contrary to popular belief it comes nowhere near to the actual cost of providing one-to-one support to a child.

It is a legally binding document involving the school/setting, Local Authority and family. Other professionals will also provide reports which feed in. It also states the setting deemed to be most appropriate for the child.

HelenaJustina · 16/03/2021 18:11

Because they involve the Local Authority having to shell out hard cash, they are not just distributed willy-nilly! A child can have diagnosed SEN but not hold a Plan.

Spudlet · 16/03/2021 18:37

Sorry @Prokupatuscrakedatus, I should have said what it stood for. As @HelenaJustina says it provides a relatively modest amount of extra funding but more importantly for DS, it can also specify any extra support needed, such as speech and language therapy. DS has been on the waiting list for funded speech therapy for years - we’ve funded all the therapy he’s received privately. It’s so bad that I happen to know that DS’s school asked DS’s therapist for her day rate to assess all the children they have waiting - they just aren’t getting the help via the public system. Having an EHCP that specified that DS needed speech therapy support would be huge for us. And it will follow him through the education system, which again would be great - his little village primary school is a lovely supportive environment but who knows how his senior school will be? It can run until the child is 25, so through university as well.

So it’s a pretty big deal and one that I’m gearing myself up to fight tooth and nail for. My middle class SAHM elbows are being honed to a needle-sharp point and my persuasive writing skills are being dusted down. 🤞 it will be enough.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 16/03/2021 18:48

Helena I see, thank you, so it's sth like the DS's "Förderplan" and probably involves lots and lots of paperwork, forms and meetings, too.

I recently scanned and then shredded 125 pages of documentary e-mails from primary school.
