Inspired by the ‘staples’ thread. We have wine and I can5 remember the last time we didn’t...

Hmmm maybe I need to rethink my choices,

We never have any in the house because we keep bloody drinking it!!

Titsywoo · 12/02/2021 23:03

I have loads that people have bought me over the last few years but I don't actually drink it! I used to like prosecco but have gone off it. When things open up again I'll have to have a party just to get rid of it Grin

mootymoo · 12/02/2021 23:03

Yes, buy a few bottles when we take the car to the supermarket because I normally walk. They last 3-4 weeks, as drink a couple of bottles a week between 2

FunnysInLaJardin · 12/02/2021 23:03

@LouNatics

Lots of wine in the house. Maybe 30 bottles - red, white, fizz, a couple of magnums. Spirits, beers, lagers too.

I’ve also got 30kg of flour and 15kg of rice and a freezer stuffed to the gills. Low amounts compared to how I was brought up.I feel better to be well stocked. I’d be more worried if I drank and ate it all

TBF with me its not just wine either.

I have about 30kgs of flour, 7 kgs rice, 10 kgs of pasta and a 3 freezers full of all sorts of food!

mathanxiety · 12/02/2021 23:03

Yes, wine, beer, gin and vodka. Plus a teeny little bit of whisky. There used to be more of that, obv.

And there's a tiny bottle of limoncello in the fridge, come to think of it.

peasinmysoup · 12/02/2021 23:04

Yep red, white and so many bottles of fizzy.

We don't even drink wine!

mathanxiety · 12/02/2021 23:04

And prosecco we didn't get around to at New Years out in the back porch.

ClaudiaWankleman · 12/02/2021 23:05

About 70 bottles.
Also approximately 25 bottles of spirits.

SionnachRua · 12/02/2021 23:05

Yep. Usually around 3 bottles of white, a couple bottles of red (that neither of us drink). All the makings for a Long Island Iced Tea and a couple of extra whiskeys on the side.

EternalOptimist7 · 12/02/2021 23:06

I usually buy a bottle at a time but I’ve just won a case of 6 bottles (white). Need to be careful I don’t polish them off too quickly!

CarryOnPlainHunting · 12/02/2021 23:06

We have a wine cellar (with wine).

Thankfully dh mostly buys wine that I don’t really like so I’m not tempted to drink it. It does mean that he drinks too much.

Greenevalley · 12/02/2021 23:10

Yes, we live in France so buy it regularly.
I usually drink 2 nights a week.

We also keep pastis in for our French neighbours.

CaptainCarp · 12/02/2021 23:11

Yes I usually get a few wines & prosecco gifted to me on birthdays. DP doesn't drink it so its just me.
I actually "made an effort" to drink some of it over Christmas as I don't drink often day to day. 10 days off with nowhere to go seemed a good time to get through a few bottles.

Pretty much always have some beers/lagers in. Also have various bottles of gin, vodka, rum & other spirits.
I am looking forward eventually having friends round & being able to pretty much able to offer them any drink they could want!

Sparklingbrook · 12/02/2021 23:12

DB has a wine cellar, i am sure if I knew anything about wine I would be very impressed. But it's all a bit over my head. Blush

PurpleFadesToGreen · 12/02/2021 23:13

Nope none.

Couldn't even tell you when I last bought any either.

AnnaSW1 · 12/02/2021 23:14

Yep. In my hand

ResIpsaLoquiturInterAlia · 12/02/2021 23:16

Yes I have a wine cellar and also source traditional favourites en primeur plus like to explore local English wineries. During lockdown participated in various online wine tasting “gatherings” and really enjoyed trying less exported varieties from various geographies not usually marketed or exported such as Swiss, Japanese and Canadian wines. Save water drink wine especially food pairing! Wine does not necessarily have to be a frivolous expense for home consumption unless you pay corkage and drink out (pre lockdown). You can try and develop a taste for what you like irrespective of price point and don’t need to follow any rules particular “rules” or benchmarking names such as Robert Parker etc.

purrswhileheeats · 12/02/2021 23:16

I stockpile it when it's on special offer, always handy to have a bottle to take to an impromptu BBQs or if a friend pops round for a glass on a Sunday afternoon.

Oh wait, no. My time machine just broke down in 2019.

Beautiful3 · 12/02/2021 23:16

No, never have it in, unless it's Christmas. I rarely drink, it makes me fat!

xyzandabc · 12/02/2021 23:19

Yes but I couldn't tell you what type. We always have a few bottles around for 'just in case' but probably only drink 3 or 4 a year, mainly Christmas if we're hosting.

DH has a beer on a Friday evening and that's pretty much the total of our drinking.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 12/02/2021 23:20

Always.

And gin.

clpsmum · 12/02/2021 23:21

Always!

MrsAvocet · 12/02/2021 23:22

Yes, quite a lot, though it rarely gets drunk. I don't drink but people seem to give me wine as a gift quite frequently. I regift some of it and save some for guests. Except of course we haven't had any guests gor a year!

Shodan · 12/02/2021 23:25

Yes, also champagne, prosecco, various spirits and several liqueurs.

Most of the champagnes etc would probably taste like vinegar now - I rarely drink, and when I do it's vodka with the occasional Bailey's.

I don't ever drink in the house on my own tbh- when I do drink, it's with friends.

Afromeg · 12/02/2021 23:28

Most times, no. I don't drink. DCs don't. DH, only rarely so doesn't usually buy any unless he feels like it or we received some.
