I don’t think I’ll ever hear of a baby Gary.

I know two adult Gary’s and both are in their 50’s now

Your Dad Horace sounds fab MrsPumpkinPie.

I knew a Horace at University in the 80s, so although I think of him as young he is of course in his 50s now. I've just looked him up as he had such an unusual name, and he has had a fascinating life and actually only lives a couple of miles away from me!

My Dad was Bernard. I can't see that making much of a renaissance!

The names that are taboo will be the only ones not to resurface - Adolf, Lolita to name two....

ItisLikethis · 12/02/2021 21:04

Laurel, Stuart, Candice, Kimberley, Sharon.

I like some of these!
I'm 30.
Could totally see a little baby called Barbara or Lisa.
I'm sure they will make a come back at some point.

@Passenger42

My Dad was named Percy and we always thought he pulled the short straw compared to his brothers but know I like it and think he really suited it.
Funnily enough a colleague gave birth to a Percy this week! I absolutely love it but other colleagues have not been so positive.

I think the karen thing is really nasty. I have got a friend called Karen and she finds it genuinely hurtful
My SIL is a Karen and you couldn't meet a nicer person. The whole thing is horrible and misogynistic.

I’ll never forget when my eldest was a newborn, a sweet old lady asked me his name whilst fussing over him whilst I was out for a walk. When I replied Stanley her face dropped and she asked if there was something wrong with me!!!!!!! What the peanuts is wrong with the name Stanley??!!!

well, for me, as a 50 something, Stanley is incredibly, incredibly old fashioned. I cannot get rid of the old man image. For me, it has much, much more old man status than Archie/Alfie etc.

The first time I met a baby Stanley I was astonished.
But now I have got used to the idea that people use really old men and old lady names, I am not surprised. (but still do a double take at baby Ednas and Mauds)

But for my generation it is really like Gary, Keith, Kevin and all those that your generation hate, that is how they feel to us.

Which is why I say that all names do come around all the time. Every generation sees names through their own lens.

My 14yo has a name like one of those, think Graham, Derek, something like that. It's not a family name or anything, just a name we liked. His sisters have more modern names.

I like quite a lot of these names!, I think they’ll all come back around again when Gary’s are in their 90’s so they’ll be the new old man/lady names

Humphrey.
Doris.
Carol.
Maureen.

I'd really like to know which twat began associating Karen with negative behaviour in women.
Unfortunately it makes it very difficult for people who are named Karen to complain about the negative bullying bullshit without someone (fuckwit) saying 'she living up to her name'....

Strangeways19 · 12/02/2021 22:03

Myra (as in hindley) but personally I like this name it's a shame she sullied it
Adolf
Karen

Namechangerextraordinaire1 · 12/02/2021 22:04

I think most names will roll back around one day. There are namestbat just sound dated now (like Gary, Kevin, Sharon, Patricia) that will probably be back in fashion one day but just sound wrong on babies at the moment!
