I don’t think I’ll ever hear of a baby Gary.

I know two adult Gary’s and both are in their 50’s now

@Lara53

My 14 year old DS has a friend called Stuart - also my DH name, but he’s 49! I taught a Shirley last year - she is Chinese and that’s the English name the parents chose!
I find it interesting to hear the names that Chinese people adopt when they take a Western name. They're largely unencumbered by by our pop culture references or ideas of particular names being unfashionable so it's fun to see the names people go for with a fresh mind.

I know a toddler whose middle name is Roy and have met young adults called Humphrey (posh), Stuart (Scottish) and Ursula. My teen cousin is Paula after her dad (!) and my old boss has a primary age daughter called Mary-Ann.

I quite like Roger but struggle to get past the red hat association. DP once suggested Myra if we have a girl but I obviously objected!

I do agree that most names will come back into fashion but Alexa is definitely done until it’s no longer the voice assistant.

It's funny that that the OP mentioned the name 'Gary'. My exH name was called Gary,and I was only thinking a few weeks ago that I've never encountered anyone under the age of around 40 with that name. Definitely gone out of fashion!

earthyfire · 11/02/2021 23:09

I know a baby Gus and a baby Gary

Isis

Also, haven’t heard of any Basil’s since Basil Fawlty (or Brush)

There was an Isis in my daughter’s year in school so she’ll be 19/20 now.

My son (24) is William - my first choice was Arthur but DH didn't like it because of the Willo the Wisp cartoon

Grin I had guinea-pigs Mavis and Edna after Willo the Wisp ( I wouldn't have ever thought Edna would be popular for a little girl)

We had a guinea-pig Bert - good solid bloke name

Love Ralph and Hector .
And Mercedes (one of my favourite names for DD but decided against it)

ClinkyMonkey · 11/02/2021 23:25

Yep, bingo, all there! My name. My sister's name. And my brother's nameGrinGrin To be fair, my name and my sister's name were horribly old fashioned even when we were saddled with them.

I can't see Gillian, Julie or Tracey making a comeback.

Gwendoline, Harold, Hester, Rupert

@LadyCounterblast

Connie Bernard Quentin Lola Roland Derek Cliff Marjorie

I was going to say Brian but it appears I'm wrong on that one.

I know a cute Connie and a Lola! Both under 5. Marjorie is a lovely name.
Smallonesaremorejuicy · 11/02/2021 23:41

There are definitely Ruperts , Barbaras & Enids around where I live , also a baby Percy & baby Pauline . I love the name Elsie & two of my close friends have a daughter each named Elsie. I don’t know any Garys under fifty or any Traceys at all or Susans .

PattyPan · 11/02/2021 23:45

I know a couple of Connies too. Rupert is on my list Blush
