Just checking in. I've been trying to stay away from all talk of CV for a couple of weeks. Even this thread Grin

I like the news posted above that things could be looking up in the next few weeks.

@rosettesforjill

Possibility of outing myself here but I work for an academy trust and have just had an excellent speech from our chief exec as part of inset day. A lot about committing to getting children back up to where they should be (we have schools in some extremely deprived areas and have been doing a lot of work to help them). And very keen to get children back in the classroom ASAP!
That's good news. I think surely some people in education must have clocked that in the long term they are going to do themselves out of jobs if the unions keep pushing for remote teaching. Tough budget decisions are looking, it has to be much cheaper for the gov to make schools run on a three or four day week and have "quality online learning provision" for the other two. Especially as they can contract that to a private company who can make loads of profit (and be a heavyweight Tory donor).

@Worldgonecrazy

Not been verified but the rumour at work was that the partners in one of the big four, who we share a building with, have been told to face the corner if any gets in the lift.

Batshit!

Not rumour but fact at the Shard offices. They have 4 sets of footprints in each lift facing the four corners....
rosettesforjill · 12/02/2021 10:04

@SirSamuelVimes our trust has some strong Tory connections but more the school of believing that anyone can make a success of themselves given the right opportunities - if that makes sense! The senior leaders definitely have some political clout so hoping they'll be pushing for a school return to be prioritised. And I can imagine there are quite a lot of differences of opinion with unions based on the normal order of things...

BogRollBOGOF · 12/02/2021 10:11

It must be 11 months since I've been in a lift!
Of all the random stuff to suddenly miss 😂

Hello I’ve been lurking and only occasionally posting.
Someone here has a support bubble that’s a fair distance away don’t they? We have one with my MIL who is a few hundred miles away. Planning to go and visit her tomorrow for a few days. Apparently local police in her area are doing strong media messages saying don’t come to this area for half term (it’s a nice holiday type area). Am now stressing that we will get stopped on the way and desperately looking at the gov.Uk rules on support bubbles

We have a childcare bubble 200 odd miles away where DS is at the moment for his home learning. No sign of any police when we drove there to drop him off. However - neither of the police forces in our area or PILs' have been particularly in the news for OTT enforcement.
CruCru · 12/02/2021 10:36

Can I whinge? I’m so bored and so boring. I’ve only seen my husband and children for weeks and weeks. People keep getting in touch and I have nothing to say because I haven’t done anything.

And I slept funny last night and have a sore neck.

Gratefulrunner · 12/02/2021 10:37

Thanks Rosettes. I am quite stoic about the whole situation but I feel like this has tipped me over the edge a bit and made me really cross that in general we aren’t free to even travel around our own country!

DrRamsesEmerson · 12/02/2021 10:39

Another bad day here. An old friend's teenage DD is anorexic and self-harming. She was fine this time last year. There's no help or support. I feel so angry and sad that she and the thousands of others like her don't count.

ISaySteadyOn · 12/02/2021 11:27

DD1 cries daily. It's not as bad as others are dealing with but it breaks my heart.

Pleasedontdothat · 12/02/2021 11:30

Checking in .. rather stressful few days here ... dh (early 50s, slim, super fit cyclist) has suddenly developed a serious heart condition. He’s got an urgent referral to cardiology on Monday morning with strict instructions to go straight to A&E over the weekend if it gets any worse. At times he’s finding it very hard to breathe - there’s no way he’s going to be able to wear one mask let alone two ...

Worldgonecrazy · 12/02/2021 12:00

@Gratefulrunner we have a support bubble and spend the latter half of the week in a touristy area. No police around at all.

There are videos of police being unaware of the difference between guidance and law, so if you are stopped then you can refuse to accept a penalty notice and go to court instead. The law does not place a limit on travel for support bubbles, it is the guidance that says local.

I recommend following Adam Wagner on Twitter.

Worldgonecrazy · 12/02/2021 12:00

@Pleasedontdothat so sorry to hear this. Be gentle with yourselves this weekend. Hope all goes well on Monday.

justasking111 · 12/02/2021 12:06

Ambulance at neighbors she collapsed again. Family live away, she refuses carers for privacy reasons, well three times now she's been found undressed and incontinent by other neighbors, has refused to go to hospital. I hope she does get taken in. Then something will be done

Gratefulrunner · 12/02/2021 12:12

@Worldgonecrazy thank you. I suppose with it being half term it’s an obvious time for police to discourage travel to the area, lots of second homes in that area I think

Worldgonecrazy · 12/02/2021 12:17

You can also move the address your car is registered at. My insurance company said they didn’t need notification of this but you may want to check. Our car is 50/50 between the addresses so you may be in a different position. You can do the address change on line so very quick. We did it as more likely to be anpr checked at tourist area than city area.

LadyCounterblast · 12/02/2021 12:59

@Pleasedontdothat Sorry to hear that, how worrying for you both. Brew

SirSamuelVimes · 12/02/2021 13:26

Hope your DH is ok, @Pleasedontdothat.

AcornAutumn · 12/02/2021 13:36

Hello all

I haven't been in here for a bit

Why are you talking about double masks? Has it been said in a briefing?

justasking111 · 12/02/2021 13:37

Just had my wrists slapped by OH. Talking about weirdos, of either sex, who are found guilty of nasty things done to people and animals. Just told me he found it sickening that I knew so much what sites did I visit. Ummm... mumsnet.. I wanted to say. I am not supposed to be so worldly wise I guess.

We have a local pervert, masked, hooded stalking women, he honestly thought I was making it up despite the police and others posting it on FB. Just who is living in cloud cuckoo land I wonder.

Its good that you know.

Police alerted locals about a rapist who was...I don't know, incredibly good at sneaking up.

A local contact who lives in a house was coming back from a night shift and realised he was very close behind her on her street. She screamed and he ran away.

It was quite serious, the management company sent letters to everyone in our block.non alarmist letters but good to be aware.

LadyCounterblast · 12/02/2021 14:08

@AcornAutumn

Hello all

I haven't been in here for a bit

Why are you talking about double masks? Has it been said in a briefing?

Hello

Not in the UK, at least officially, as far as I'm aware. A CDC study has been published that claims double masks specifically, a cloth mask over a tight-fitted surgical one is more effective at repelling the hill witch or some such, in specific circumstances.

Some of our august news organs have 'covered' it with their usual balance and restraint.

I understand that the study's somewhat flawed, in terms of what it was comparing to.

However as an idea it seems to have somewhat caught on, and there seem to be a few people out and about now who are double-masked.

I don't know what to think really. For now I'm going to ignore it until forced to confront it.

AcornAutumn · 12/02/2021 14:14

Thanks Lady for the info

I am on a news minimum and the only sites that have a grain of truth are behind a paywall

Being on complete minimum of news is very good. I figure I only need to know if something is happening in law and that's actually very rare.

I don't want to give headspace to speculation. I know sometimes it's a test balloon but even so.

LadyCounterblast · 12/02/2021 14:21

No probs Acorn

Ditto on the news embargo. Fed up of all the speculative musings and gassing punditry.

Although I did enjoy the video of the Texan lawyer stuck as a kitten on Zoom.
