How many sausages per person with bangers and mash? Are we a greedy family?

Bangers and mash for dinner tonight (I'm having soup because I'm trying to lose weight) and I was wondering what a normal portion looks like to other people? DH and my 16 and 18yo sons will eat at least 4 sausages each with a big pile of mash/peas/gravy. They would eat more sausages if there were more available! I remember when I was a child we were given 2 sausages each, but then I remember being very hungry as a child and meals often weren't generous enough (cup a soup and two slices of dry bread as dinner for a 9yo, for example).

So - how many sausages?

@everydaysablessing

Local pub used to serve 3, 6 or 9 sausages and mash
Shock 9 is ridiculous
User7458 · 10/02/2021 20:34

We get sausages in packs of 6, I just have 2 and DH has 4, then complains if he gets heartburn

BlowDryRat · 10/02/2021 20:34

3 each for me and DH, 2 each for the DC (10 and 8).

Mine would all easily eat 4 and they're proper good meat like you OP we don't buy the crappy one's and none of our 5DC are overweight, they're all very tall for they're age though especially the 3 youngest.

truetuesdays · 10/02/2021 20:35

3 but I'm calorie counting. Would have more if I could.usually do pack of 8 3 each and 1 each for the dogs

1.5 ? Is this just for Lent?[/quote]
No. They are chunky good quality sausages and we have them as part of a meal. If there were 8 in a packet we'd be happy to have two.

wishes1111 · 10/02/2021 20:35

2 each, plenty of buttery mash and lots of veg and gravy

wishes1111 · 10/02/2021 20:36

I'll just add that I like the finest sausages or butchers, I'm a bit fussy when it comes to meat quality!

wishes1111 · 10/02/2021 20:38

Wait I forgot to add to my point that they are fat meaty sausages not the skinny ones haha

DipSwimSwoosh · 10/02/2021 20:40

2 for me. 3 for DH.
Or maybe 3 each as they come in 6s, but I'd struggle to finish them.

Thislittlefinger123 · 10/02/2021 20:40

2 each, 1 for children. DH used to have more but we've tried to cut down on processed meat and up our veg with meals instead.

My husband and 15 yr old have 4 each, 13 yr old has 3 and my 8 yr old has 2.
I’m vegan and I have 4 vegan sausages but they tend to be smaller than the meat ones we buy.
We have lots of mash too!

bogoffmda · 10/02/2021 20:45

Tell me the location of the 9 sausage pub is please!!

13 yr old not over weight v tall, plays loads of sport but feeds then eat little for 2 days then feeds again.

We are full on proper susages chipolatas are inhaled and only considered a snack

gamerchick · 10/02/2021 20:45

@MintyMabel

A portion is 2 sausages. Any more than that is greed

Nonsense. “A portion” depends on who is consuming it.

It would be a portion for me. It would not be for the rugby players OH was working with today.

Sorry I must have missed the +2s on this thread and beyond who were rugby players.

A portion depending on who's eating it did make me snort though. Always does.Grin

PrincessBuggerPants · 10/02/2021 20:46

Pack of 6 does 3 for DH, 2 for me and one for the toddler.

Don't know what we are going to do when he gets older Hmm

riotlady · 10/02/2021 20:47

Im surprised, I would have 2 and I’m a fatty so it’s not like my portion sizes are usually dainty! 4 sounds right for teenage boys though, I’ve never met one that wasn’t a bottomless pit

sonnysunshine · 10/02/2021 20:47

2 for me and DD, teen boys have 2.5. I could eat the whole packet.

PandemicAtTheDisco · 10/02/2021 20:47

I think a portion size is two thick ones or three thin ones for an adult.

Oly4 · 10/02/2021 20:48

3-4 per person

PattyPan · 10/02/2021 20:49

They’re 16 and 18. It’s a while before they need to worry about coronaries

It may be some time before a heart attack or stroke but it’s been known for a long time that atherosclerosis frequently starts in childhood. This study for example says that prevention measures should begin in adolescence. I’m obviously not saying that eating an occasional packet of sausages is going to give children heart attacks but it’s very naive to think that diet during youth won’t have an impact on later health (not to mention the indirect impact through the formation of attitudes towards food and portion sizes).

Siennabear · 10/02/2021 20:49

2 each. Maybe 3 if they’re the skinny ones.

strawberriesontheNeva · 10/02/2021 20:49

Me and dh used to have 3 each but we have two each now we thought 3 each was being greedy. Older dc have 2 each, youngest has 1.

ChrissyCarol · 10/02/2021 20:50

I have 3 but they're 97% pork so really filling.
Cheap thin ones, I'd probably have 5 and then feel sick cos they're full of crap

Oblomov21 · 10/02/2021 20:51

Plus depends on how big your sausages are! These 2 are big. These serve us 4, 3 each.
