How many sausages per person with bangers and mash? Are we a greedy family?

Bangers and mash for dinner tonight (I'm having soup because I'm trying to lose weight) and I was wondering what a normal portion looks like to other people? DH and my 16 and 18yo sons will eat at least 4 sausages each with a big pile of mash/peas/gravy. They would eat more sausages if there were more available! I remember when I was a child we were given 2 sausages each, but then I remember being very hungry as a child and meals often weren't generous enough (cup a soup and two slices of dry bread as dinner for a 9yo, for example).

So - how many sausages?

I have 2, DP has two or three.

@hiredandsqueak
I assume it's a dachshund?

Housewife2010 · 10/02/2021 20:08

We buy Waitrose or Ocado sausages. There's six in a pack so we have 1.5 each.

My DS generally has 2, I have 3. If I had four I'd need a nap afterwards! Not saying I wouldn't give it a go Wink

Vargas · 10/02/2021 20:09

2-3 for me, 3 for DH but teen ds will eat as many as he can get his hands on and has gone down in family lore for eating 9 in one sitting. Hmm

Fennellathewitch · 10/02/2021 20:09

We share one sausage between four (but it's a very, very long sausage)

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 10/02/2021 20:11

@Housewife2010
1.5 ? Is this just for Lent?

Staffy1 · 10/02/2021 20:12

Three

DishedUp · 10/02/2021 20:16

@Kazzyhoward but the comment was on calories. its still irrelevant how many calories.

My point still stands, there's nothing wrong with a calorific meal providing its not for every meal. Even if that meal is of low nutritional value.

Having 4 sausages instead of 2 once a month is not going to in any way affect your health. And even if it does thats not a moral failing. Especially as the comment does not take into account exercise levels etc. You aren't going to find 2500kcal of brocoli, if someone needs a lot of calories a reasonably proportion has got to be fat.

Rewii · 10/02/2021 20:17

2 sausages for me, dh has 3.

Stumpedasatree · 10/02/2021 20:19

Would never eat more than 2. DC age 11/12 also 2 each. DH possibly 3.

KaptainKaveman · 10/02/2021 20:21

4 sausages is too much IMO. That way a coronary lies.

Bigtom · 10/02/2021 20:23

We had sausages and chips tonight. Two sausages for me, four for my husband, one for my 7 year old. I definitely wouldn’t want more than two. My 7 year old will sometimes eat two.

mamaduckbone · 10/02/2021 20:24

Dh and ds15 would have 3, me and ds11 2 thick sausages with mash and veg. More veg than just peas though - usually 2 or 3 different sorts.

Embroideredstars · 10/02/2021 20:24

Sounds perfectly reasonable for their ages

Sailor2009 · 10/02/2021 20:24

@ClangingChimesofDoom

Oh god! Who the fuck cares! Eat until you are full. Or less bored. Or replace sausages with vodka.
Can I come to yours for dinner?
everydaysablessing · 10/02/2021 20:24

DH 3, me 2/3 Quorn, DD aged 3 1 meat, 1 quorn

VinylDetective · 10/02/2021 20:25

They’re 16 and 18. It’s a while before they need to worry about coronaries.
WannabeOT · 10/02/2021 20:26

I would have 2, DP 3 and toddler DD one but usually would eat half of one.

I think four is perfectly fine for teenage boys tbh.

ScrambledSmegs · 10/02/2021 20:27

2 for me and the kids, 3 for DH. We have them in a bean casserole dis so I find that ridiculously filling anyway.

I don't particularly like sausages.

CherryBlossomTree7 · 10/02/2021 20:31

I would have two, sometimes three. DP who eats a lot would have three or four.

Four is fine for growing teens. More than this seems a bit greedy.

everydaysablessing · 10/02/2021 20:33

Local pub used to serve 3, 6 or 9 sausages and mash

MintyMabel · 10/02/2021 20:33

A portion is 2 sausages. Any more than that is greed

Nonsense. “A portion” depends on who is consuming it.

It would be a portion for me. It would not be for the rugby players OH was working with today.

MistleTOEboughski · 10/02/2021 20:34

We get packets of 8 and DH has 4 and dd and I both have 2 I could eat 3 if there was a spare but if not I bulk up on veggies and potato

CeefBurry · 10/02/2021 20:34

Bloody hell ... you lot are lightweights.

At least eight for DH , six for me
and four for the children .

Greedy bastards ... 😆
