How many sausages per person with bangers and mash? Are we a greedy family?

Bangers and mash for dinner tonight (I'm having soup because I'm trying to lose weight) and I was wondering what a normal portion looks like to other people? DH and my 16 and 18yo sons will eat at least 4 sausages each with a big pile of mash/peas/gravy. They would eat more sausages if there were more available! I remember when I was a child we were given 2 sausages each, but then I remember being very hungry as a child and meals often weren't generous enough (cup a soup and two slices of dry bread as dinner for a 9yo, for example).

So - how many sausages?

Richmond, zero.

hiredandsqueak · 10/02/2021 19:40

Two for me and dd and one for the dog. If I leave one of mine (not keen on sausage) the dog gets it for breakfast next morning.

Frazzlefrazle · 10/02/2021 19:40

I had 2 tonight. Kids had 2 husband had 3. I could eat more though.

I give my tall, very skinny children at least 50 each. I just smell them though, thats enough for me.

MacDuffsMuff · 10/02/2021 19:44

I have two, DD has three, DS and DH have 4.

geminiflanagan · 10/02/2021 19:45

3 each for adults, and 2 for the 7 year old. DH would happily eat 6 though!

Nohomemadecandles · 10/02/2021 19:46

Could someone maybe do a flow chart of acceptability?

Including length and skinniness both of sausage and teenager, unlimitedness of available veg / massive salad, amount of cross country running done prior, current BMI, gender and colour of pearls for clutching purposes?

That would be lovely, thank you

transformandriseup · 10/02/2021 19:48

I have 1.5 and 1 year old has the half. DH has 3

Peachypips78 · 10/02/2021 19:48

I have two, boys (13 and 10) and husband have 3.

Two for ladies three for men and teenage boys over 12. Simple. Or put in a dish and share out one at a time to til people say no .[/quote]
Two for ladies three for men . However in most other areas this is discrimination

Honeyroar · 10/02/2021 19:50

We’re obviously greedy! We’d all eat four easily! I’m veggie nowadays and can’t eat more than two or three veggie sausages, they’re tasteless. Even my elderly mum, who isn’t eating well, can eat two regular sausages!

MummytoCSJH · 10/02/2021 19:52

If we're having Yorkshire puds with it I will have 2 and ds 1, if we're just having sausage mash veg and gravy I could easily have 4 and ds 2 Grin

ArabellaScott · 10/02/2021 19:53

Sigh. I feel bad now for even looking at a sausage, I thought they were a low calorie, low fat wholefood.

Atkins superfood, I think. Especially if you get the macrobiotic ones.

TroysMammy · 10/02/2021 19:56

Depends on the size of the sausage. Homemade not uniform size 2 each. Supermarket sausages 3 each.
Skinny chicken sausages 4 each.

sadpapercourtesan · 10/02/2021 19:56

Just to clarify, I am talking about good, full-sized sausages, not your piddling little chipolatas!

Neither of the boys is overweight, DS1 is too skinny, but he forgets to eat unless it's presented to him.

I've got Michael right on it. I got sent to Hell because when God asked me this question, after my death from gluttony, I answered only one if it were at least 8 inches long but I'd need to lick it first to see if I liked the taste. I'm a very bad girl. Winning! Grin
amusedbush · 10/02/2021 19:58

I’d probably have two but I could eat three. I’d rather have more protein than fill up on potatoes as I’d be starving an hour later.

DH is almost a foot taller than me and has a very active job so my portion wouldn’t touch the sides for him - he’d have four.

BaggoMcoys · 10/02/2021 20:01

I'd have 4 or 5 if serving myself, I'd expect to be served 2 if I were in someone else's home, but I'd try and get seconds if I could.

MakkaPakka84 · 10/02/2021 20:01

We have 3 each but we could easily manage four (mmm, really fancy sausages now!). Usually with mash, gravy and beans.

bogoffmda · 10/02/2021 20:03

2pkts of 8
DP - 3
Me had 2 got to eat one
11yr old - 2 ate one of mine
13 yr old currently having a growth spurt has just eaten 9 - never eats potatoes, carrots, kumara and a big smile - have you got anymore!

Natsel84 · 10/02/2021 20:05

If they are good quality sausages 2 each as part of a main meal .

Fennellathewitch · 10/02/2021 20:06

No, no , no.
Where you are all going wrong is not buying Cumberland sausage from the butchers. You buy it by weight, and it's in one long length.
One sausage can be a foot long, or three inches but in our house that's still one sausage.
Problem solved.

Oblomov21 · 10/02/2021 20:07

4, or 3 if big.

Slub · 10/02/2021 20:07

We only have Richmond sausages (thick ones) and if it's bangers and mash we have 3 each. If it's a fry up one or two.
