Have you sent anyone a gift of brownies through the post and has a good experience? I have googled and found plenty but would rather go by actual recommendations from someone who has used the company. TIA.

@TheNationsFavourite could you PM me too?

So sorry, Tentative3, have just seen your post, I've messaged you!
Meant to add that I have 5* food hygiene rating from my local council.

Made some Kinder Bueno trays at the weekend!

@Bowlerhats

Thank you, that’s quite expensive. I might dig out my recipe book.
This. I'm not sure I understand why anyone would buy something like Brownies by post.

They're probably one of the easiest cakes to bake and even the fancy ones cost about a fiver tops to make, but people are paying £20+ to have them delivered Confused.

Beeston brownies are incredible, so good I even had them at my wedding instead of a cake.

They cost more me more than a fiver in ingredients, especially they are using more expensive branded chocolate that many people like to order. Mine are 38% chocolate and I use only butter and free range eggs. And yes, they are quite straightforward once you have done them a number of times and can get them right everytime. But they are a knack. People that sell their baking obviously have to be registered which can be a time consuming process.

In terms of making them to sell, the whole process generally is quite time consuming and you have to factor in the cost of equipment and packaging materials as well as ingredients. Shopping, preparing and baking, washing up, packing, getting them to the post office. £5.57 for first class post. The time taken to get the finished product to someone's door is probably much more than you think. There is much more to it than adding up the cost of the raw ingredients. Then there are all the normal costs involved in running a business.

By all means, make them yourself. But many people don't have the confidence, skill or time. So, like many other people, they buy it in from other people. Why do people go to restaurants when it's so much more expensive than cooking the same thing themselves?

Most of the brownies that are ordered from me are gifts. Particularly during this time, people are wanting to buy an experience for their friends, that's why they are happy to pay what you would consider a premium for a lovely handmade cake gift to turn up at their door.

Great thread. I want to send some to adult ds and have been wondering which company to go with.

Ragwort · 16/02/2021 14:33

I am looking forward to ordering some of TheNationsFavourites brownies, it is a real treat to get a gift in the post. I am a reasonable baker but have never had much success with brownies - either under or over cooked.

It's like anything - of course you can do things 'cheaper' yourself ... but (assuming you can afford it), why not have the occasional treat? especially during lockdown.

Personally I wouldn't order a takeaway meal, I can cook much better at home and don't think they are 'good value' ... but a box of proper brownies will be a lovely to look forward to.

After multiple taste tests I highly recommend The Pudding Wagon and Blue Basil Brownies 😋

Just coming on to say I ordered brownies from TheNationsFavourite
to be sent to my daughter in law as a surprise
My DIL messaged me, all excited, when they received them
She said they are simply amazing, best ever....and there’s enough to last them a week ( and there’s 4 of them and they are avid brownie eaters)
Will certainly order from there again

Ragwort · 23/02/2021 19:31

Thanks Nan, That is a great review, I am intending to order from the Nationsfavourite for my DS who is at Uni, his birthday in a couple of weeks!

spiderlight · 23/02/2021 19:44

Gower Cottage!! Absolutley amazing. Their walnut ones are particularly good.

AlohaMolly · 23/02/2021 19:46

@poppet31

I used this company.

www.bigbearblondies.com/ - small business husband and wife team and all products completely gluten free. Tasted amazing!

Another vote for big bear blondies - best brownies I’ve ever tasted and the family are amazing.
MistakenAgain · 23/02/2021 19:47

I can give you my address if you need someone to test them first. Quality check and all Grin.

MistakenAgain · 23/02/2021 19:49

Bad Brownie were good. Not sure how they compare to others.

MistakenAgain · 23/02/2021 19:55

Ah see Bad Brownies have been mentioned. I discovered them outside Kings X after a long train journey. My thoughts/plans of getting something that resembled dinner somehow fizzled away and I definitely did not regret it! Delish.

Thanks so much NanaSue, it's lovely to hear they went down so well!

Definitely need to sort myself a website and a slightly more official ordering system now I am confident the product is well received; I'm currently addicted to the salted caramel and chocolate chunk!
