What lockdown habit will you keep after this is all over?

I have a few I think

  • click and collect for shopping (find it actually easier than delivery).
  • weekly pasta subscription

Anything you’ve started that you’ll keep once we are back to normal (whenever that is).

DD is in L6th and we had an on-line parents evening earlier this term. 4 slots, joint sessions per subject (ie both teachers on camera at the same time), all done and dusted in 40 mins from the comfort of my kitchen. Boom. I will be lobbying hard to keep that up.

We started making weekly cocktails at the beginning of lockdown as a way of using up those strange half drunk bottles in the drinks cupboard. I now have many, many more strange half drunk bottles and we’ve had cocktails pretty much every Friday since lockdown started. It’s certainly sparked joy as a family habit Smile and I’m definitely going to keep a weekly cocktail as part of my life!

Online yoga, Pilates and HIIT workouts rather than paying for the gym

notalwaysalondoner · 04/02/2021 21:20

Really fitting exercise into my morning routine - although I can only do this because I don’t commute any more... but now do yoga or running at least 4/5 work days.

Less crazy social life, I’ve realised I’m quite a homebody and got exhausted by being too busy before.

Quick walks with my family during the working day. Again only possible if wfh.

Video calling long distance friends. Before would have just WhatsApped them and then flown out to visit every couple of years.

Oh don’t get me wrong I’ve rattled on with my doctorate and I’m doing a post grad certificate I probably wouldn’t have taken on yet if I had a fucking life but otherwise no. Absolutely nothing about this has been positive.

Fair enough. We all have different mechanism for managing life.
I have had lots of trials in life- this is quite mild compared to some!!

louderthan · 04/02/2021 21:21

I'll definitely continue to wear a mask on public transport. Will be invaluable when smelly people sit near me!

RJnomore1 · 04/02/2021 21:25

There’s nothing mild about what’s going on. I’ll be fine in the long run but the mental health impact is appalling. I can see the strongest in my team starting to crumble. We are social creatures and we are slowly killing ourselves through this.

I’m terribly sorry because this was meant to be a positive thread but having spent yet another day at work trying to mop up yet another shot show related to this I’m in more of a furious than positive mood. It’s been almost a year of ground hog days dealing with the impact of lockdown and trying to create new services instantly from nothing.

greenlynx · 04/02/2021 21:25

Online shopping and evening walks. I also hope some groups/ events will continue on Zoom. I can’t travel much for various reasons so Zoom workshops/ groups are really good for me.

FlowEr262 · 04/02/2021 21:30

Click and collect weekly shop.

Reading, having more time I’m now part of a virtual book club and am reading a book/week. Could go months without reading before Covid.

StooriMidori · 04/02/2021 21:31

Meeting friends outdoors with a flask of coffee and some sandwiches, instead of paying £20 to sit in a noisy, germ infested soft play and drink tepid pond water.

Onlinedilema · 04/02/2021 21:52

Exercising at home rather than in the gym. Keeping a distance from strangers, I have never liked anyone in my personal space and I now have a reason to prevent strangers from creeping into my space. I will see more of my true friends when this is over and less of others who I've discovered aren't true friends.

Furble · 04/02/2021 21:57

Running and sobriety. I’m 5 months sober tomorrow after some hideous drinking in the first lockdown. I hope I never go back, I’ve got my life back and have not been this happy in a long time.

BikerWife · 04/02/2021 21:58

Going to keep on having more date nights at home with nice food and wine as we used to eat out a lot but now saving a fortune and not really missing it!

30 minute pilates class twice a week on YouTube.

I'm a nurse and a lot of pointless meetings and training have been cancelled and I am hoping we never get them back! Also doing more via Microsoft teams at work.

Gin subscription Making a new cocktail every week
Same here, defintely enjoying the quality over quantity alcohol wise.
24butfeeling80 · 04/02/2021 22:04

Drinking.

Every.

Night.

LunaNorth · 04/02/2021 22:07

Staying sober.
Running.
Watching the calories.

I’ve lost about 20lbs since all this started, and I haven’t had an alcoholic drink for almost six months. I’m determined to keep it up.

ConkerBonkers · 04/02/2021 22:23

Hopefully not driving so much! I quite like it! Using the wholesaler more, and only doing the food shopping twice a month. Manage to save more money and time this way. Wearing trainers more often, they are so comfy. Not feeling the need to be spending so much money on activities and gift shops for ds as we did pre-lockdown.

phoolani · 04/02/2021 22:27

Husband, is that you??

Yes, THIS.

Even when it was a bit nippy it was still great to see a friend this way.

I'd resigned myself to the fact that anything we do as a family must cost a fortune. But this doesn't.

And I actually like a hot drink out of a flask in the cold. Smile

Getting up at the weekend and not having to crack the whip and rush us all off somewhere

Unless you go for my renewed determination to go everywhere, do everything and hug everyone all the fecking time.

Honestly, that is a big positive - a reminder to embrace the life you want to live.
Doyoumind · 04/02/2021 22:38

Avoiding human contact.

Tigresswoods · 04/02/2021 22:41

Podcasts! I'm v much enjoying my morning walk accompanied by various BBC sounds podcasts.

phoolani · 04/02/2021 22:41

Saturday movie night. We used to be so busy with activities on a weekend that Saturday was inevitably a night that at least half of us was pissed off/over-tired. Now it’s a whole ritual, deciding on the film, deciding on the takeout (the only take out we get) - it’s a really big night for all of us, even the moody teenager never cries off. It’s been really lovely.

@phoolani thank you, you’re right. I’ll get my chin back up in the morning.
