Welcome in ADs. Snuggle up hygge-style 'cause there ain't much going on out there for a while... except rain.

I haven't got a pussy of my own for gratuitous showing off, so I shall pretend to be Dr Evil with Mr Biggleswade Grin

Ouch @DWPmisery1972 Massive sympathies from me as a fellow stair diver. I second Piccadilly’s suggestion of a chiropractor if you can afford it. Also found a hot water bottle on my back helpful as well as Voltatol gel. Very important to keep moving as much as possible as well so you don’t seize up. Look after yourself Flowers

Thank you for all the well wishes everyone, woken up this morning and the pain has definitely eased slightly; it was about a 7/10 last night now I’d say it’s manageable so about a 5; still niggling and very uncomfortable when transferring from sitting/from the car etc but it’s a bit more bearable

Loki it sounds like he just craves the social aspect- I find myself rabbiting on when I get on a video call with a friend or someone. It’s just such a relief to be chatting and having human conversation. And especially at his age, he’s going to be missing his mates and the banter. It’s such a shame. Lots of love you and you boy.

Morning everyone else, hope you’re all ok- I’m refusing to look at the news today, I’m going to pretend like this shit doesn’t exist. I’m going to play music, try to ease my coccyx pain, read mumsnet, hang out with you guys, watch old show on Netflix and just chill out.

What’s everyone’s plans today? Have we got weather good enough to walk in? Xx

@LivinLaVidaLoki

As a complete aside, I was going to post here asking for advice.

DS (10) has always been chatty but now it's affecting school. We had a zoom parents evening recently where the teacher bought up his chatting. It's literally the only negative thing, ds is extremely bright and achieving higher than expected in all areas, but the chatter has escalated now and can be disruptive to the other kids in class.

We've had conversations with him about talking at appropriate times and hopefully that should help. However, it occurred to me that school is literally the only other time he sees any other children or spends any actual time with people outside the house (I've noticed he does also chat to our neighbour a lot when we see him), so could it be because he's no human contact outside of school and home? I suspect it may be but I'm not sure.

I think that's highly likely and worth drawing to school's attention, that he's not being naughty, just that all of his other outlets for expending his verbal energy have been removed so it's now focused entirely on school.

I lived out of catchment and didn't get much chance to socialise out of school and was a chatterbox. I did do dancing, but theres not much chat time there.

Had a very AD type chat by pm with a friend. It's not good in that we're struggling, but rather refreshing that we can now exchange these thoughts and experiences together. It was so hard through the spring and summer in the face of near unaminious rhetoric for restrictions. I kept quiet off MN because I didn't want RL rows and fall-outs. We began to meet in the autumn at an equidistant location to run. It's distance that's the issue to keep up at present.

Plans today... we're going to church for the first time for getting on for a year! I know it's going to be weird with no singing and so on but I'm still looking forward to it.

Hi, just to let you know the pain may come and go. I also had a stair incident (although mine was drunkenly self inflicted) and left it for 6mths cos it kept coming and going. Turned out I had displaced my coccyx. An amazing physio sorted it for me in a couple of sessions once I got it diagnosed and have never had problems since. Try see someone just to be sure. Sorry the NHS has been shit to you. I basically had to beg for physio after a third degree tear and they made me feel like I was time wasting right up to the point of seeing the lovely physio who confirmed she could help me. Hope it continues to get better and you get more sympathetic ears next time .
DWPmisery1972 · 31/01/2021 11:17

Thank you weneed, I’ve got a private physio that I trust that isn’t too overpriced that I had to use after a bad bout of sciatica so I may well go back to her also, thank you for the advice, it’s much appreciated. You lot are proper stars!

DWPmisery1972 · 31/01/2021 11:19

11 I hope you have a lovely time, I good masks/aggressive D’s etc don’t ruin your afternoon. Flowers

DWPmisery1972 · 31/01/2021 11:54

Sorry that should have read I hope, not good. Bloody keyboard!!

Iheartmysmart · 31/01/2021 12:17

DS is the same Loki and he’s not the most talkative of teenagers. When I pick him up from work it’s almost like every thought he’s had during the day comes out in a massive torrent of words. There is so little social interaction permitted he’s probably making the most of every opportunity to chat.

Ive just been out with the dog again. Am a bit cross this morning because I’ve finished my book and the author hasn’t written the next in the series yet. What has she been doing during the pandemic I ask you.

bakingcupcakes · 31/01/2021 12:38

We were listening to avicci in the car on the way to the shops. DS said 'I wish someone would wake me up when lockdowns over. This is rubbish.' Wierdly I was thinking something very similar myself. Grin

I hate that with books too! Grin In fact I've now taken to waiting for sets to be completely released before I start. I'm the same with the TV.

I'm hoping DS will come for a walk with me later. He won't want to because he's already been to the park but I'm already a bit panicky about my step count. I spent last night pacing the living room when really I wanted to do a jigsaw. The ridiculousness of this situation isn't lost on me.

Iheartmysmart · 31/01/2021 13:09

To be fair to the author I didn’t actually realise it was a series of books when I read the first one. But now I do know, if she could get a chivvy in with the next one I’d be eternally grateful.

justasking111 · 31/01/2021 13:36

OH went down to his boat in the marina this morning to finish repairs to his boat, every bugger stopped him to talk, he said folk are starved of conversation.

flower11 · 31/01/2021 13:58

DWP
Sorry for your situation. Coccyx pain is some of the worst I've had. I feel down stairs at 25 weeks pregnant and hurt my coccyx. I went to a+e and they said there was nothing they could do. It would hurt for 3 weeks and they usually give strong painkillers but because I was pregnant they could only give paracetamol.
If you are in pain I would contact your gp and ask for strong painkillers as this is the standard treatment . Please don't be put off getting help if you need it.

Curlygirl06 · 31/01/2021 16:21

I cracked mine kneeling down to kiss the kids goodbye at nursery. There was a little child's chair behind me, one of those wooden backed ones with the seat and back riveted to a tubular steel frame. Full force, right up the crack of my bum, couldn't have hit it more squarely if I tried. I actually heard it crack. 20 odd years later it still plays up.

MrsEWeatherwax · 31/01/2021 16:25

I no longer start books either unless series/ trilogy etc is finished. Still bitter that George RR Martin hasn’t bloody finished the games of thrones books. I’ve been waiting bloody 30 years since the first one!
I am also having to listen to YouTube/Discord rubbish from my teenage DD because she says texting her friends isn’t as good as talking. It’s all gobbledygook and goes right over my headBlush.
Went to supermarket with DH today and we did the pretend spy thing until checkout, what a sad life I am living!
Hope you feel better soon DWPmisery1972.
The sun is still out. The lighter nights are coming, spring is coming ( my daffodils are up but not flowering yet)

TooManyPlatesInMotion · 31/01/2021 16:52

Hi everyone, was wondering if anyone had managed to unearth a link to the Warwick Uni paper that has been all over the press today (re modelling to avoid a huge third surge of deaths)? I am interested to read it for myself.

Nothing new to report here. Took my eldest out for a walk today. He got very tearful about wanting to go back to school, hang out with friends. All I can do is reassure him and keep saying the same things, try to stay positive for him. It is getting harder though tbh. He is normally a very social, outgoing and funny 10 year old. I feel awful for him.

TheOrchidKiller · 31/01/2021 17:01

Found a diary I started keeping in January 2020, because I thought it would be a fun thing to do. Gave up writing it by mid-May because life was so dull & miserable (although in hindsight, marginally better than now).

I don't mention "the coronavirus worry" until late Feb. In early Feb DH & DS develop coughs & feel a bit ill but carry on as usual. In fact, reading it today I'm struck by how busy life was, I describe shopping for birthday presents, meeting friends for coffee, taking the kids to places, a trip to the dentist. Unlucky-in-love DD gets dumped by a boyfriend. I later write how I'm secretly glad we won't have to deal with keeping the pair of them apart, "if one of them got the virus."

I complain bitterly about road works & traffic jams that are planned to last for 12 months ("That's a ridiculously long time to put up with the inconvenience!") I mention delaying a visit to DPs in Feb because they're too busy, then book train tickets to go down for mother's day, writing, "You wait, I bet they'll stop us travelling now! Nah, won't happen, worrying over nothing."

If only I'd known...

MercyBooth · 31/01/2021 17:18

@DWPmisery1972 sorry you are in pain. And that you have had such a shit experience Flowers

BogRollBOGOF · 31/01/2021 18:08

We flocked off for a walk in one of the prettier bits of the county. Google maps said 13 miles away, and as a half-marathon runner that is clearly local Wink

We all enjoyed the scenery and managed without any strops from the kids Grin

Petition for 'flocked off' to become official AD language!

ISaySteadyOn · 31/01/2021 18:25

Signed!

Taswama · 31/01/2021 18:36

We flocked off too and saw loads of people, more than we would usually on a summer's day.
Hopefully my picture of the snow topped hills in the distance has loaded.

2020BogOff · 31/01/2021 18:42

Lots of people must have flocked to our bit of the countryside today as I have never seen so many people. Was rather nice saying hi to all the smiling faces as we walked past and no masks in sight so clearly everyone was happy with being outside near other humans Grin

BogRollBOGOF · 31/01/2021 18:48

That's gorgeous!
At the back of the local woods the further hills in sight are just tall enough to catch the snow.
Actually they're within a few miles of where we went today.
