Lent will start with a day of fasting on Ash Wednesday in our house. The DC don’t observe Lenten fasts (aka chocolate or iPads, whatever they have chosen for their Lenten promise) on Sundays. But I tend to keep Sundays, except Mother’s Day! Am giving up coffee cake and chocolate.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 13/02/2021 21:55

@HelenaJustina
Same here, the difference between DH and me is that I don't fast on Sundays and he does, apart from that we keep full observance until Easter Sunday. Mother's day is in May here, so no problem.

When is your "Weißer Sonntag" (First Communin day) or is it different in every community?

HelenaJustina · 13/02/2021 22:01

It varies by parish, though many go for the Feast of Corpus Christi, for DC4 it will be 27 June which is 3 weeks after Corpus Christi this year. My youngest will be beautiful in white and wear the same veil as her sisters (my wedding veil cut down), am hoping very much we can have a family celebration with her aunts, uncles, godparents, grandparents by then. Are you or DH Roman Catholic? Don’t answer that if you’d rather not!

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 13/02/2021 22:07

Helena No problem - RC both of us, though from different regions with different regional traditions and my DM was Lutheran - so I am mixed - keeping Easter Sunday and God Friday as high feast days Smile

MissConductUS · 13/02/2021 22:07

@Namechangegame123 has received the coveted Death By Chocolate brownie recipe. Grin

@HelenaJustina, you're a much better Catholic than I was.

Miss So her expansion into unused space can truely begin.

Frownette · 13/02/2021 22:14

I have lost my glasses. Error is I'd need to put them on in order to find them.

I'm going to send back work computer, it is awful. Supposed to be so expensive and I'm here crying why the goddamn thing doesn't work? Another few months out of work which I'm not getting paid for oh thank ye gods.

Find me on the corner of 22 second whist I ply my new trade. Or sell my furniture.

HelenaJustina · 13/02/2021 22:27

@Prokupatuscrakedatus love ‘ Weißer Sonntag’ as a name for the celebration, so true. My DC have never been so holy as on that day. @MissConductUS don’t know about that! We are fairly observant as a household (though DH is not Catholic) but could always do better in the living out of our faith. I’m being unusually open about it this evening, I blame the glass of cava and Italian crime drama on TV!

HelenaJustina · 13/02/2021 22:28

@Frownette that sounds so stressful, can’t you access any tech support to get it sorted so you can work?

Silkiechickscat · 13/02/2021 23:01

Bear Frownette sorry things are so difficult. If you are in one of the self-employed categories that's been left with no help for a year (I'm in this one too, luckily DH is employed) then Martin Lewis has said help may finally be coming in 3rd March budget.

Did you take the chocolates to the man you like? Maybe he can fix expensive computers.

We just had roast dinner and cheesecake. DH is starting to feel fluish from the vaccine now so is coming to bed. I am so sleepy I'm struggling to stay awake so I will sleep too. We will be the sloth family.

@HelenaJustina - I'm glad you feel comfortable talking about, even if you had a bit of cava assistance. Religion is part of life for many of us. I left the RC church in my 20's but have found a new home in the Episcopal Church, which is the American offshoot of the C of E. The liturgy is just as nice and the rules are a lot more relaxed. Both of my DC were baptized by a woman, something I will always treasure.

I think this is the most boring thing I've posted in weeks. Smile

Someone please kill me now! My neighbour just turned up at my living room window about 10 minutes ago. I'm mortified.

My house has a door intercom system from the previous tenant which If it's off the hook tends to broadcast all sound outside like a loudspeaker. Anyhow neighbour is out with his dog and heard me saying over the intercom. "You like that don't you, whoa slow down you got it all over the wall earlier, whose a good boy then, do you want it faster?"

He knows I live alone so decided to walk past my door to check I was ok. He sees me sitting on the sofa with one cat hanging on the back of the sofa eating treats out of my left hand, while the other cat stood with her paws on my chest having a lick-e-lix squeezed into her mouth from my right hand and trying to take it off me or to squeeze it faster. I have to move don't i?

The reference to the wall earlier, I took a lick-e-lix from the pack that was puffed up, I opened it and it exploded over me, my face and the wall behind me.

MissConductUS · 14/02/2021 00:15

That's quite funny, @NotanotherboxofFrogs. How well do you know the neighbor?

OP posts:
NotanotherboxofFrogs · 14/02/2021 00:35

That particular neighbour is lovely, kind friendly and community minded so if he sees/hears something suspicious he will take action. We have been friends for about 6 years.

But he saw my curtains were open and partly wanted to let me know that the intercom was off the hook and check I was ok. He found it hilarious as his cat jumped in the windows for a treat too with my two watching, he was holding the dog back as she is rowdy. He had to pass the living room window to get to my front door.

Silkiechickscat · 14/02/2021 05:14

DH woke in the night at exactly the same time the cat was wanting her 3.57am breakfast so that worked out perfectly for Silkiecat DH says she has been super cuddly with him recently and he thinks she knows he's ill. He says she keeps trying to fit herself on small spaces on his desk.

He says he still feels fluish but better than before from vaccine so think he is over the worst point.

Boiler pump is leaking. DH says it doesn't matter but I suspect it does though need to tidy house first so plumber can get near it. Still working though. Got cgt tax return to do though as well and change of address letters though at least no school to do but DS is a day behind so need to do that with him. Was hoping to have a break esp for DH though once we are through this it may get easier if schools go back.

I moved dates of summer holiday to end of holiday as risk of covid isolations from school at start, it was cheaper too but weather will be rubbish I bet though has an indoor pool.

HildaTablet · 14/02/2021 08:41

I'm sorry NotanotherboxofFrogs but your accidental broadcasting episode has just made me laugh so much GrinGrin

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 14/02/2021 09:07

Silkie Boilers have fragile egos and need constant attention and encouragement.
Ours always tells us he has 'no water'. We gave him a new expansion vessel (?) and at the moment he seems to be happy.

I seem to have fixed the leaky inlet to the washing machine.

Spudlet · 14/02/2021 09:56

DH and I had a romantic Valentines takeaway last night and shared a bottle of wine. Consequently we both had a terrible night’s sleep with indigestion and I ended up taking a sleeping pill at 3am to try and get at least some sleep 🙈 It was a delicious meal, but we normally have one drink if we have one at all, so three glasses of wine each was a bit much I think Blush I was boiling in the night to the point that I almost got up to take my temperature (but didn’t as I had already done it earlier in the evening and it was fine, and it was fine this morning too, and it was too cold outside of the duvet) and then this morning DH told me he was as well so I’m putting it down the vino. We are such a pair of lightweights 🙈

Spudlet · 14/02/2021 09:57

@NotanotherboxofFrogs OMG GrinGrinGrin

Silkiechickscat · 14/02/2021 10:35

Poor DH is not well with the vaccine and very sleepy.

Squirrel26 · 14/02/2021 11:31

Took the dog for a walk and then had a coffee. I put Bailey’s in the coffee in the hope that it would motivate me to clean the bathroom. Still waiting for it to take effect.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 14/02/2021 11:35

Squirrel I think Bailey's only motivates to more Bailey's - the promise of B. after cleaning the bathroom might help.

TheySeeHerRowling · 14/02/2021 11:44

We got quails' eggs for a special V-Day breakfast treat but DH gave all his to me in disgust because he couldn't peel them Grin.

I suppose the type of person who would routinely eat them has staff!

MissConductUS · 14/02/2021 11:45

Good morning, lovely people of the thread. And happy Valentine's Day to you all!

I'm up, exercised, and showered. I think I'll wait a bit on breakfast. DH has left me a gift bag and card. I'll open them later once he's up.

Spudlet, I'm glad you had a nice meal and some wine with your DH, but you've rediscovered that alcohol is a toxin. Hence the word intoxicated.

Silkie, I'm sorry your DH is poorly. Which vaccine did he receive?

Prok, we've had to replace the same part on our water heater, which is a separate unit from our furnace. Here it's called an expansion tank. Inside it is a bellows that expands and collapses to manage the pressure in the main water tank.

I finished our Federal tax return and we're getting some money back. Now I have to do the New York State return, but the software will transfer over all of the data from the Federal return, so it's much less work. Also, DH had his call with the financial planner and the news is good. We're on track for a comfortable retirement. We could actually retire now, but we'd be better off waiting for a few years, particularly with DD still having three years of uni to pay for.

Happy Valentine's Day everyone.

Poor DH is still sleeping and not looking good, said he had a fever, headaches and shivers - he had the AZ vaccine. He's normally quite tough, sleepy is common though. They told him to expect to feel ill all today.
