@Frownette, I'd say that the toffee pudding is the main and the ice cream is the dessert.

I'm not sure if I've ever had a curry, unless that's just a generic term for any dish seasoned with curry powder.

Actually I was offered some colcannon in the end so had that on its own, it was strangely comforting (especially in the cold). Toffee pudding later.

I'm not sure how to describe curry well, I'll let someone else explain!

Spudlet · 12/02/2021 19:24

Curry generally refers to dishes from the Indian subcontinent, although you also get curries in other cuisines - Thai, for example. There are loads of types, often involving spices such as turmeric, coriander, chillis, ginger and cumin. In the UK they’re often adapted recipes that cater to British tastes (tikka masala, for instance, was apparently invented in the Midlands and is not well known in India!) although you do get more authentic places here now too. And yes, I have been on Wikipedia, why do you ask Grin The Indian takeaway we generally use is actually run by a Nepali family, I believe, so they have some Nepalese dishes on offer as well as the standard tikkas, kormas and so on.

We had a Lloyd Grossman balti tonight which is probably not terribly authentic at all, but is very tasty.

MissConductUS · 12/02/2021 19:42

The town I live in has one Indian restaurant that I must confess I've never been in. Indian food seems much more popular in the UK than it does here.

We're having rigatoni with meatballs and ciabatta rolls on the side tonight.

@Frownette, I was racking what’s left of my brains the other day, trying to remember what that (colcannon) dish was called, so thank you!

I’ve made a Hot and Sweet Prawn and Pineapple curry for dinner (nearly ready) - a first here so I hope it’ll be nice.

DH has his Covid vaccination on Wednesday which is excellent news.

DDog 3 2 appears to have damaged the potentially fractured trotter again so is in dark spirits. We have an appointment with the trotter doctor tomorrow morning, which will be a lovely restful start to my rest days Hmm

I'm about to cook halloumi for dinner. We are recent new converts to the medium of halloumi, and it's rather an enjoyable roller coaster of a ride.

I'm about to cook halloumi for dinner.

There are so many exotic foods on the thread tonight. Smile

DH has a tiny amount of antibodies (real test ordered from the GP before his OP).

Our curry was Thai. We have a favourite Asian supermarket, where DH gets ingredients.

AmongUs · 12/02/2021 20:10

8.10pm here. All have had dinner. Ds1 about to join friends for zoom call. Managed to tidy up house so that's something. Looking forward to watching Sons of Anarchy with DH later when kids have gone to sleep

MissConductUS · 12/02/2021 20:28

Welcome, @AmongUs, and thanks for sharing your Friday night news. I wasn't familiar with Sons of Anarchy, so I gave it a google:

That's a lot of characters being eliminated. I can see why you wait until the kids are in bed.

How was the curry @GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER? You've made me crave hot prawns now!

QuestionableMouse · 12/02/2021 20:47
**@QuestionableMouse

Bloody hell! Warn us before you mention dumplings please! Too exciting! I haven't had any in years :(
I did think it was too much excitement for this thread.

They were lovely but would have been better with some parsley in them. Or maybe a spoonful of dried stuffing mix.

HelenaJustina · 12/02/2021 20:49

I’ve had an M&S pizza and two glasses of cava because it’s the end of term and I’ve earned it though I do now feel fat and like I need another glass

Taswama · 12/02/2021 20:54

DP made a curry for tea tonight as he has most Friday nights for the last 20 years. He served it with rice rather than naan bread, which is fine by me.

MissConductUS · 12/02/2021 21:06

My DH makes Instant Pot Mongolian Chicken. Is that a curry?

OP posts:
Frownette · 12/02/2021 21:17

Have you got time off finally, Helena?

@MissConductUS it's curry inspired

sproutsandparsnips · 12/02/2021 21:48

I too have a washing machine issue prokupatuscrakedatus. I have done 2 washes today and noticed an ominous puddle emanating from under the machine after the second ( which was a very heavy load of bath mats and towels). I immediately, in some dismay, put on a rinse cycle and I was somewhat reassured that no further water came out. We shall see. I do not feel confident enough to set the timer to come on in the wee hours when I'm not around to supervise.
I fancy a glass of cava HelenaJustina but have to go to work very early tomorrow so cannot indulge. Enjoy your well deserved bubbles.

Champagneforeveryone · 12/02/2021 21:55

The halloumi squeaky cheese was excellent Smile

DS is loading the dishwasher and listening to the John Bercow biography. I'm always amazed by the rabid interest young people take in politics - I'm not sure I even knew who the prime minister was at his age Blush

Squirrel26 · 12/02/2021 22:29

I had halloumi for dinner too. Then I had some chocolate spread which I ate from the jar with a spoon. Yum.

In bed with my two hot water bottles.

Frownette · 12/02/2021 22:38

Is 'two hot water bottles' a euphemism for something?

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 12/02/2021 22:55

Tuned out v nice, thanks, @Frownette - dh said so, anyway, but then he’ll eat anything - least picky bloke on the planet. I did enjoy it too though - will def. make it again.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 12/02/2021 23:03

I’m just casting off my stash buster scarf, the one I’ve been doing on my exciting new circular needle. Just the ends to turn into a tidied-up fringe tomorrow.

Then to bed with cup of tea, book and electric blanket. Bliss.

Silkiechickscat · 12/02/2021 23:04

Its been an exhausting day for Silkiecat

Half term, yay!

Located 5 out of 6 details for address changes. Having a McDonalds.

Silkiecat is sooooo cuuuuute!

Squirrel26 · 12/02/2021 23:41

Haha. ZNo, @Frownette. Literally two hot water bottles. Well, 3 if you count the dog.
