I am sat surrounded by Lego as we spend a pleasant afternoon creating new things. Alexa is playing '90s pop' and Bring It All Back by S Club 7 has just started. This has made me very happy and I'm cheerfully bopping along.

Frownette · 27/01/2021 16:18

Think there may have been a murder/tragedy locally Confused

I came out of the house and there was what looked like a broken umbrella in the middle of the road, so I went to move it but noticed on the other side POLICE ACCIDENT. They were swarming everywhere but no crashed cars. Then I went to pick up my laser/printer/scanner.

Sunbird24 what colour did you get? Eggy don't think I know that one, will have a listen

MissConductUS · 27/01/2021 16:22

Welcome, @Serena1977 and @N0ManJan and thanks for sharing your supermarket shopping news. I was watching the news on TV last night and they showed a reporter standing on the street in some UK city talking about the pandemic. She was right in front of a Waitrose store and I kept thinking to myself "I know what Waitrose is!" Smile

@Frownette - Good luck with your appointment today. We have one of those combination printer scanner devices and we use it all the time. It's really handy for scanning documents so that you can email them.

@MissConductUS it was just to meet new doctor and have bloods, really quick. I keep hoping they'll tell me I don't need any more testing. How are things going with medical and dental?

He said I could keep the printer thing which was really kind, I had a look online and they're £200.

You're an honorary Brit now Grin

Squirrel26 · 27/01/2021 16:57

I feel like I’ve spent the day writing inconclusive unhelpful reports. Sometimes life’s like that though.

I’m going home now.

Sunbird24 · 27/01/2021 17:07

@Frownette it’s this one, but in grey. Think I’ll buy the black as well. They’re perfect for work!

EggyPegg · 27/01/2021 17:14

Oh @Frownette, how awful.

We have had the building regs approval email come through. Work begins on the loft on the 8th of February.

So now we need to clear the loft between now and then. Most stuff is easy enough, but I don't know what to do with my (huge) wedding dress.

Silkiechickscat · 27/01/2021 17:29

I managed to sleep some more. I have very little voice left as DS would only stand 5 metres away for me for lessons today so I had to shout them 4 lessons in all.

I got pizza and chocolate balls with salted caramel from the bakers for lunch which was nice.

The silkie chickens were very noisy today - they appeared to be doing it to get DS out with them and more food even though they had food. DS was in - out - in - out though he loves his silkies calling for him. Normally they are quiet except when laying an egg which they have to announce to everyone.

Spudlet · 27/01/2021 17:53

@MissConductUS you’ll have to make sure a trip to Waitrose is scheduled in if you ever get across to visit us Grin

I am shattered, have had a fairly exhausting day with a boy with the attention span of a gnat. A gnat on Haribo. 😬 However I got out for a nice walk with ddog by myself so that has helped to bring my shoulders down from my ears! The car repairs were quite expensive so it’s probably good that we can’t go anywhere or do anything, it’s been an expensive month for cars, unfortunately. Hey ho. DS is watching Stargazing (again) and I’m trying to find out if I can buy them as DS loves these programmes and it’s going to be a sad day when they come off the iPlayer - no luck yet though.

Glad you got some more sleep @Silkiechickscat. I hope you have a better night tonight.

@Frownette How awful Sad

soddingkitten · 27/01/2021 18:01

Evening all!

I’ve not long got dinner into the oven. I heard a mysterious rasping sound when I was peeling the parsnips and turned to see Sodding licking the vegetable oil out of the baking tin I’d just oiled for the parsnips. 🙄 He then legged it out the cat flap before DH locks him in for the night and came back soaked (heavy rain). We just had a comedy Benny Hill chase round the kitchen, me with a towel in hand. Once I caught him and towel dried him, much happiness and purring ensued. He was also tolerably huggable.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 27/01/2021 18:28

sodding Grin

Apparently we not only are in lockdown but under curfew (from 20:00 onwards), too.
DD is stressing out because she has to write papers and the libraries are closed and her zoom had a bug in the middle of a lecture. And she doesn't eat properly.

MissConductUS · 27/01/2021 19:00

@Frownette - Medical and dental are going well. No side effects from my treatment yesterday and I have a televisit with my lovely GP tomorrow to discuss adjusting my BP meds. I haven't heard back from my periodontist, which means that he's trying to convince the implant manufacturer to honor their lifetime guarantee and replace the implant I broke.

@Spudlet - anything to do with cars is very expensive. When we put winter tyres on DH's car we had to buy four of the sensors that go on the wheel and report the air pressure wirelessly to the car's onboard computer. They were $96 each. Plus the labour to install of course.

@soddingkitten - that's typical kitten behaviour. Ignore the clearly understood rules then dash away when caught, then use your superior maneuverability to evade the humans. I think I'll wait until I retire before I get my next kitten.

The internet issues I was complaining about in the final post of the last thread (post 10k!) was not DH's fault, as I first suspected. The whole east coast had an internet wobble.

I'm hoping Mr Ocado will arrive soon, than I can have dinner. He's due between 7.30 and 8.30.

I don't think my car has an onboard computer. Grin

nancybotwinbloom · 27/01/2021 19:28

I realised that the whole of series 3 Marcella is on sky. Not just the two I watched last night. Tonight is a write off now. Wine, criss cross chips and Marcella. I

Champagneforeveryone · 27/01/2021 19:44

I've just forced DS to join us in a family game of Top Trumps, but with poo as the subject - they are amusingly called Plop Trumps.

It was a lighthearted 15 minutes (he insisted on a timer Hmm) and I had no idea poo could be so fascinating Grin

NotanotherboxofFrogs · 27/01/2021 19:54

@Frownette friend tops up his money account weekly to make sure he always has credit for his phone calls / stamps esp since covid. They do get up to 30 minutes a month video call and they use it especially for their child to tell him about their days and all the ramblings of a 5 year old. She writes 3 times a week with a kind of a daily diary, the prison he is in he is able to access some sessions to record stories for bedtimes for the child. He also leaves messages via a voice mail system that friend listens to and records for the child. He is being prepared for release and should be out on licence later this year. Friend spends about £20+ per week for the top up as that allows for phone credit, stationery and stamps and other bits he might want to get from the canteen/shop list.

My dull news is that I opened a new carton of milk tonight and might have some cereal later.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 27/01/2021 20:13

I brought DD some fried chicken with herbs.

The temperature at my desk has sunk to 16°. As I don't have to do anything, I will make myself a hot water bottle and go to bed. There are books to read and to listen to.

DS hasn't come out of his room - I think it is true - he is about 3-4 years behind developmentally. This is deep puberty. Grin

Yogaposer · 27/01/2021 20:15

The shredder at work broke this morning. I was mildly inconvenienced to begin with but by the end of the day I was considering starting a paper bonfire in the car park.

Nydj · 27/01/2021 20:25

sunbird I am very tempted to get a front zip bra/crop-top except their size chart is no use to me whatsoever. Oh well.

We had leftovers for dinner.

Sunbird24 · 27/01/2021 20:27

@Nydj the sizing is pretty terrible, I got a large, and I’m a 12 or a 34DD/E, if that helps at all.

Nydj · 27/01/2021 20:39

@Sunbird24, I’m pretty much the same so may risk it - thank you.

HelenaJustina · 27/01/2021 21:18

Lovely calming news all round, thanks gang! I had minestrone soup and sourdough for dinner and am now off for an early night due to disturbed sleep last night!

Therainisback · 27/01/2021 21:29

Nothing much to report, life is as dull as ever. In fairness it's exactly like every other January.Grin
We had a bizarre mixture for tea as I'm trying to empty the freezer so I can defrost it ( DS left the door slightly open at Christmas. I discovered it before anything was ruined, but it was long enough to cover everything in a layer of frost). Then I'll go to Iceland to refill it. This will be quite an adventure for me.

Frazzled99 · 27/01/2021 21:35

I like this thread. I cleaned the entire house today top to bottom....even got the mop and duster out. Can't remember the last time I saw them. This about the right level of mundane?
