Someone has posted a tiny bag of white powder through our letterbox!

Confused

Me and DH are freaking out a bit. At about 10pm we heard the letterbox go while we were watching TV but didn't immediately check it. We've just got up to head to bed and it's a tiny little ziplock bag (like 50p sized tiny) with white lumpy powder in it Hmm

We're going to have to call 111 in the morning arent we? Really freaked and going to struggle to sleep now!

What the actual fuck Confused

Could be a joke, take a small taste. People don't normally pay without receipt of chosen poison. Probably a joke. If you were going to phone 101 I would make sure it wasn't icing sugar or similar first, be a waste of their time otherwise.

madmum100 · 25/01/2021 18:42

Best to be safe than sorry. I would call 101 and let them know immediately what has happened. Try not to touch it if you can and place it safely away until the police come to collect it. Tell the operator you don’t know what the package contains but you suspect it must be drugs and you want it disposed of by the police.
Those who have suggested it you hang onto it until the rightful owner comes knocking have got it wrong. The longer you have it and don’t do anything about it and then if you were to hand it over to someone then technically you would be committing a criminal offence or two: being in possession of class A drugs assuming it is an illegal substance and also possession with intent to supply it!
What if it’s part of a wider surveillance operation and you hang onto it? Won’t look good for you will it?
Not wanting to frighten you or anything but if you are law abiding citizens with no previous convictions then best would be to report it ASAP
Good luck

@AllThatFancyPaintsAsFair

Is anyone else waiting for the thread “My drugs were delivered to my neighbour and they haven't brought the package round, AIBU to knock on their door after 9pm to get them” Grin
Made me laugh even more than the OP!! 😂😂😂

Great advice but you know it's been resolved, right Grin
@tired2021 that's what I meant Blush Grin

@ledkr I didn't think so, they seem normal but we only moved in in the summer!
all anti social behaviour like this should be reported to the police. They might not do anything but they will have to log it and from that they can see if a pattern emerges. I'd be very cautious about just doing nothing.

Lweji · 25/01/2021 18:51

You know you'll be put in the Police to watch list, don't you?

Let us know if you spot any parked cars with two people inside for hours on your street.

Also, do tell your neighbours the whole story and see how they react.

riceuten · 25/01/2021 19:05

Misdelivery, or someone disposing of them very quickly would be my guess. 101 - there may be fingerprints still on it

fatchilli123 · 25/01/2021 19:11

Cellophane it to the front door 😂

Angrywife · 25/01/2021 19:31

Glad it worked out for you op.
I found the amount of posters that thought the dealer would come back for it hilarious.
They have absolutely no idea what you do for a living. They could have knocked on the door of the chief inspector of the drug squad for all they know, identifying themselves as a local dealer by asking for it back. Nah, they'll write it off kicking themselves and I doubt you'll see them again!

Darklylookingdeeply · 25/01/2021 19:37

Do not put it where animal, kids etc could get to it. The doorstep is a terrible idea. Put it completely out of reach somewhere in the house/she'd or whatever. Keep it for a few weeks and if noone asks for it, chuck it. I would be concerned about getting on the wrong side of dodgy people, so I wouldn't bin immediately.

Darklylookingdeeply · 25/01/2021 19:40

Sorry OP. Guilty of not reading your update!

CBsDad · 25/01/2021 19:56

Do people deliver drugs by letterbox?

A few years ago my mate at uni, at the time of a few anthrax scares, thought it would be funny to post an envelope of cornflour under a friend's door, it might have been funny had a cleaner not found it first and my friend was promptly dragged away by the police for questioning.

Whu020 · 25/01/2021 19:56

Give them it back they probably come back for it, you don't want trouble on your doorstep

lionsandwhales · 25/01/2021 19:59

When I was about 10 years old , there there was a druggies den near our house. Me and my friend used to leg past it on the way to the park and often saw spaced out people coming and going, needles on the ground etc. So one day, my friend and I ran past but this time there was big white powder on the floor. It was like half of flour. We grabbed it ran. I was big of the TV soap the bill at the time we took my friend's house and we burst into animated need to the call police at which her family burst out out 😂 it was a bag of washing powder that they put three for a laugh...i was set up Blush yes we grew on a council where the sense of humour is reflective of life

UmmWTF · 25/01/2021 20:23

Dear god, people!

Once more, for those in the back, the police came and took it away yesterday!

Laughing at the idea that this will get me put on a police watch list Grin can I interest any of you in a tin foil hat?

I guess I'll just leave this thread to hit 1000 posts in an endlessly repeating refrain of "Just call the police" / "Leave it outside" / "Lol have fun OP!" / "The police will be WATCHING YOU" ad infinitum Grin

Could it be from Jehovahs witnesses OP?

UmmWTF · 25/01/2021 20:31

Definitely not Jehovas Witnesses, there wasn't a print out of random bits of verse in a handwritten envelope with it Grin

Do JWs leave bags of powder at peoples houses? The mind boggles...

Holy shit, never taste a random powder! It could be harmless, or it could be very dangerous. I know that i's a moot point, but this is terrible advice- and for most people, useless, as they don't know what street drugs taste like anyway!
1FootInTheRave · 25/01/2021 20:39

This thread has been brilliant!

I only ever get unwanted leaflets about blinds though my door ☹

yphtutor · 25/01/2021 20:44

There’s the problem! let’s all just not make any noise, protect ourselves or pretend it’s not happening. What if your 4yr old child or someone else’s found that and thought it was something nice and ended up in hospital or worse dead? Be responsible is my advice. I thought the delivery comment was very flip and irresponsible and ignorant.

@HibernatingTill2030 a joke based on the other thread where people couldn't RTFT.
