Tesco 2 different prices

Tesco charge more if you don't want a club card or pop in the store and forget card...
I have noticed more and more products at Tesco with 2 different prices.
Frankly it has put me off the shop. Seems wrong to force people to use their scheme to pay a set price and over inflatable prices if you don't want a loyalty card
Off to another shop I go.

@happinessischocolate

I agree OP I forgot my Clubcard one lunchtime so out back the extra things other than my lunch as several had Clubcard discounts and I refused to pay the full price.

I've now downloaded the Clubcard app so it's on my phone, but as I haven't been into Tesco's for over a week my phone needed to download the app again so I spent 10 minutes holding everyone up at the checkout whilst I waved my phone around and it slowly downloaded the app, it worked quicker once I turned off the in store WIFI otherwise I'd probably still be there now.

The data mining of the card info must be worth a lot because it's definitely making them lose sales.

If you stop deleting the app from your phone you won’t need to keep downloading it again.

@Sparklingbrook

The best thing for me about having the Clubcard is Scan as you Shop. It’s worth it for that alone.
When my kids were young I went to tesco all of the time and paid over the odds, purely for the convenience of scan as you shop.

I'm so happy Asda do it now too. This is why I will never go to places like Aldi and Lidl. I'm happy to pay more not to waste my life in a queue or have squahed bread in poorly packed bags.

Sparklingbrook · 22/01/2021 06:14

Totally agree @BabyYodaYada. I now use Asda/Waitrose/Tesco so I can scan as I go and avoid all the conveyor belt nonsense!

What part of loyalty card discount do you not understand?

Or do you just work for another supermarket? Paid to dis Tesco?

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 22/01/2021 06:29

@Itslookinglikeabeautifulday

I agree with OP. Puts me off Tesco.
It puts you off Tesco that you can use a free loyalty card to get a discount?

Riiiight.

BikeRunSki · 22/01/2021 06:36

Tesco Clubcard used to send out vouchers to holders for small amounts of money off particular products ie: 50p off Kellogg’s Cornflakes, 75p of Tropicana juice. They haven’t done this for sometime. This was in addition to the vouchers for accumulating points.

Surely this is the same kind of thing?

Peanutbutterblood · 22/01/2021 06:50

I really cant understand why someone would have a problem with this

I had my car keys stolen so went a month or so without a physical clubcard and seeing the clubcard prices then was annoying but totally not Tesco's fault. I ended up using my mums card for a couple of shops, I got immediate discount and she got points

AlwaysCheddar · 22/01/2021 06:56

Download the app and you’ll have the card on your phone to scan.

Munchkin08 · 22/01/2021 06:59

I agree I think it's annoying, I have forgot my clubcard the other day and it would have cost quite a bit more as most things I had picked did have the clubcard discount so I walked out and didn't buy anything - it does put me off the shop.

Paranoidandroidmarvin1350 · 22/01/2021 06:59

I have a club card. I use it for scan as u shop. Which is better for my back as it means I don’t have to bend and take it all out of the trolley at the till.
Love the fact that I get things cheaper. If I don’t like it go else where. It’s that simpler surely.

BarbaraofSeville · 22/01/2021 07:17

This can't be real. It's almost as bad as the people who voted to leave the EU and are now complaining that they've lost the benefits of being in the EU.

Kinneddar · 22/01/2021 07:26

Getting a club card is simple and its free. Honestly Tesco have made it as easy as they can. You get a credit card sized one, ones for your key ring and you can have the app.

So Tesco do a FREE LOYALTY scheme & folk get upset because it offers loyalty discounts they can't get because they cba getting a card. Really?? Confused

KatherineJaneway · 22/01/2021 07:38

Tesco charge more if you don't want a club card or pop in the store and forget card...

No they don't. You pay the normal price, the club card price is a reduction you get when you scan your card at the till.

OwlWearingGlasses · 22/01/2021 07:52

Tesco club card is AMAZING. You get money for nothing.

AnnaSW1 · 22/01/2021 08:02

Lol no. They give you a discount if you have the Clubcard. They aren't inflating the price if you don't have one. It's great

Pearlwindow · 22/01/2021 08:25

It’s a loyalty card though isn’t it. Not sure what the point would be in having a card if there weren’t some perks to having one. Anyone can have one so anyone can have the perks. How isn’t that fair?

BarbaraofSeville · 22/01/2021 09:20

@OwlWearingGlasses

Tesco club card is AMAZING. You get money for nothing.
Well it's not exactly nothing, you're giving Tesco very valuable data on your shopping habits in exchange for the points and discounts, plus some people will spend more in Tesco as opposed to other retailers due to having the card.

But seeing as most people drop information willy nilly about their location and interests using their mobile phone and internet habits, it's not particularly detrimental to your life, unless you're a conspiracy theory enthusiast or are trying to stay off grid.

FrenchBoule · 22/01/2021 09:41

Tesco's trying to sell their offer as exclusive for clubcard holders.
I’ve had a look at their offers. Majority of items are the same price as their “speshul” offer at asda or morrisons.
Currently tesco is the most expensive supermarket beside asda and morrisons.

SoupDragon · 22/01/2021 09:45

@Sparklingbrook

Sainsbury's do it too.
singsingbluesilver · 22/01/2021 09:55

Club card used to be an amazing scheme - years ago when they gave lots more multiples on shopping and on petrol. I managed to pay for a holiday in France with it one year.

I switched to Lidl and Asda once the clubcard scheme cut it's deals. And I am a big shopper - at that time with a family of 5 I could easily spend £100 a week there. I would imagine I was not the only one who went to cheaper shops when Lidl and Aldi got more established in the UK.

Tesco are going to have to do a lot more than this current promotion to tempt be back in. All loyalty card schemes benefit the shop more than you these days - they are an easy way for them to harvest data.

BrieAndChilli · 22/01/2021 09:56

I have to say I am currently saving about £10-15 on each £100 shop by choosing the Clubcard prices items. (Things I would be buying anyway) and I agree that the higher non-Clubcard price is the price the items are normally. The only difference is instead of doing a special offer for everyone they are doing the special offer for clubcard holders.

NoWordForFluffy · 22/01/2021 10:25

@Sparklingbrook

Sainsbury's has SmartShop using your mobile phone now too. It's brilliant!
Givemeabreak88 · 22/01/2021 11:25

Yes this bothers me as well, you would not be paying the higher price if you didn’t have a club card as those were the standard half price offers Tesco’s use to do, they’ve now got rid of all offers and changed it to “club card prices” instead, those were the regular offers!!!

Givemeabreak88 · 22/01/2021 11:29

I can’t believe people don’t realise that these were the usual offers Tesco’s did, Tesco’s always had half price offers, they’ve got RID of all of them now and replaced them with “club card prices” where as before it was just the standard half price offers and now you need a club card to get the offer that’s the only difference. People are acting like Tesco’s didn’t do discounts before, these are not additional discounts these are the original discounts that now you need a club card to get so yes is annoying if you don’t have one or forget it, it’s not hard to understand.

BarbaraofSeville · 22/01/2021 11:32

But most people have access to more than one supermarket, so if you don't like how Tesco operate, use another one.
