Tesco 2 different prices

Tesco charge more if you don't want a club card or pop in the store and forget card...
I have noticed more and more products at Tesco with 2 different prices.
Frankly it has put me off the shop. Seems wrong to force people to use their scheme to pay a set price and over inflatable prices if you don't want a loyalty card
Off to another shop I go.

There are current 4223 items with special offers according toTesco website 48 of those are Clubcard prices leaving 4175 items that people without Clubcards can buy at reduced prices.

This really isn't a discrimination issue. It's a small perk that people who sign up to a loyalty scheme can take advantage of, as a Clubcard user I also get points when I shop so every 3 months I get vouchers, it will be about £10 this quarter, so I'll be able to get £10 worth of free food or double/triple that on travel vouchers.

Givemeabreak88 · 23/01/2021 18:47

Where are you looking at the club card prices as there are 730 on my one not 48 and the club card prices have never applied to the multi buys etc only the money off items like half price items I’ve never seen them do multi buys for club card holders, the half price section has now turned into “club card price section” instead so they’ve got rid of the half price food and replaced it with “club card prices” multi buys £1 offers etc have never been included in it.

GreenSlide · 23/01/2021 18:54

I think it's great. Is it a way around supermarkets not doing as many special offers because of covid? You don't really see BOGOF anymore. Anyway they always have reductions on nice stuff I actually want to buy. I saved a fiver on my shopping today with my club card.

Also it isn't just for things like Doritos and penguins. I got clubcard prices today for potatoes and oranges.

HalfShrunkMoreToGo · 23/01/2021 18:57

Sorry @Givemeabreak88 you're right, it was only showing the top picks.

So there are 4223 special offers and 730 Clubcard prices, meaning 3493 offers available to those who choose not to sign up for a Clubcard.

It's still very much not the case that you can only get discounted items in Tesco if you're willing to sign up for the loyalty scheme, 83% of the offers are available to everyone.

Givemeabreak88 · 23/01/2021 19:01

But those offers are not the half price offers, it literally is like Tesco’s has taken away all the half price offers and replaced them with “club card prices” that is annoying when one item is £4 and another is £2 purely for having a club card, like I said it never included multi buys.

Givemeabreak88 · 23/01/2021 19:04

If you compare it to what they’ve actually replaced it with it’s the half price section, that use to be 90% food, now there’s no food in that section because it’s all been moved over to club card

Redrivershore · 23/01/2021 19:17

I cant understand the fuss about it, Waitrose have done it for years with their loyalty card and I can't recall threads and people moaning that people are getting 20% off fish on Friday and other discounts and the free paper. You have to be 18 for that also

00100001 · 23/01/2021 19:45

@GreenSlide

Also it isn't just for things like Doritos and penguins. I got clubcard prices today for potatoes and oranges.
Yes, but not ALL the potatoes and oranges. And it won't be the cheapest option.
00100001 · 23/01/2021 19:49

@SusannaSpider

It on things like Doritos and chocolate biscuits and pringles.

The things that your average teen is likely to buy then.

Plus does being on a budget mean you have to pay more for non essentials or accept lower quality goods? That smacks of - 'you're poor, you can't have nice things'. Can't believe people think that is an OK argument.

No

It just fucking means that those on a tight budget will buy the 50p pasta over the £1.50 clubcard price pasta.

If money is tight, you just can't afford to spend more money on branded pasta and baked beans and stuff. That's fuck all to do with a clubcard price. The same applies for the Heinz Soup offer. If you can't afford to buy 4 tins of soup for £3 (or whatever offer there may be) then you can't afford it, and you have to choose to buy 4 tins of supermarket soup for £1. Clubcard prices aren't suddenly making the poorest go hungry.

Redrivershore · 23/01/2021 20:01

Surely just get a Clubcard or shop elsewhere, Aldi, Lidl and Asda are probably cheaper anyway

MrsSugar · 23/01/2021 20:06

Stop moaning and get a Clubcard. Problem solved.

Ariela · 23/01/2021 22:02

@Sparklingbrook

Totally agree *@BabyYodaYada*. I now use Asda/Waitrose/Tesco so I can scan as I go and avoid all the conveyor belt nonsense!
Our Sainsburys also offer it
gildalilly · 23/01/2021 22:08

Apologies as I haven't read the full thread but I've noticed that often 'Clubcard price' in a big Tesco is the same as the shelf price in an express.

Sparklingbrook · 23/01/2021 22:08

The only Sainsburys I know of that does it is about an hour away and is a huge out of town megastore type one. Our local medium sized one hasn't caught up just yet.

NoWordForFluffy · 23/01/2021 22:16

We have a stupidly small Sainsbury's (barely bigger than the Locals) and it has SmartShop. I was surprised, actually!
