Mine would be
(1) Philip Cairns, disappeared in 1986 from Dublin. He was 13

(2 )Trevor Deely, disappeared walking home from a Christmas party in 2000.

(3). Raonaid Murray murdered yards from her home. She was only 17.
Never been solved.

...

titan89 · 21/01/2021 04:12

Trevor deely; is upsetting; however he did just turn up at some girls door in Alaska after a couple of dates, which does show an oddness. It is better to say he was a bit eccentric if you want people to identify him after he has gone missing,

FrenchyQ · 21/01/2021 04:12

Leah Croucher, to not know what happened to your daughter and then for your son to take his own life must be truly devastating.
I live in the next town over from where she went missing and see the posters all the time and find it sad to see how faded thy are all getting, as if everyone has forgotten about her.

titan89 · 21/01/2021 04:17

They know who took Cairns, because it was a priest it never went anywhere. It always sounds like they know the raoinaid case as well, but as a prosecutor, you only have one shot in court for a conviction (I would have thought, that crime should have dna that could be advanced - perhaps a petition to a crime series would help}

AmelieTaylor · 21/01/2021 04:18

The 3 that instantly sprang to mind were

Madeline McCann
Nora Quoirin.
Claudia Lawrence.

But quite a few of the others mentioned here too? Some of the ones 'solved' still don't sit right.

The number I hadn't heard about is awful though and given this is the tip of the iceberg...it's scary & sad.

@Flappitsnappit

I am SO sorry 💐 I don't know how you ever come to terms with that xx

Amdone123 · 21/01/2021 04:32

Regarding Ben Needham, I think the theory that he wandered off, came across a digger and an accident occurred seems plausible to me. I understand that the family don't feel the same, and of course that's their prerogative. I feel for them.

Regarding Jonbenet, I think she took some of Burke's pineapple, he hit her with a flashlight, parents hid her body in the basement, called the police. They may have been planning to dispose of the body later.

Also, Casey Anthony got away with murder and should just tell the truth. She won't though.

Callcat · 21/01/2021 05:10

Somerton man, Madeline mccan, Clydach Murders.

Callcat · 21/01/2021 05:13

And Gareth Williams, the spy who was found inside a holdall in a hotel.

poundoflard · 21/01/2021 07:26

Melanie Hall
Jo Ramsden
Genette Tait

Beansbitch · 21/01/2021 07:46

Sandy Davidson who was taken from his grans garden in Ayrshire, no publicity at all!
Alistair Wilson, such a mystery.
Madeline McCann.
Shame for all families of missing people.

LadyEloise · 21/01/2021 09:39

@Beansbitch I just looked up the Sandy Davidson case.
So awfully sad. Why did this case not get publicity it deserved ?

As a parent I would find it so hard to keep going if one of my children disappeared. What a horrific thing to have to live with.

Amy Fitzpatrick an Irish girl disappeared in Spain in 2008.

April Fabb, who disappeared in 1969.

LadyEloise · 21/01/2021 10:18

@BorderlineHappy
Amy Fitzpatrick's brother was killed by her mother's partner Dave Mahon in 2013, five years after Amy disappeared in Spain.
Amy was living with her mother and Dave Mahon in Spain when she disappeared.
He was jailed for 7 years for the killing. I'm not sure if he is out now.
Amy's mother stuck by him when he was in prison.

It's just unbelievably sad.

BorderlineHappy · 21/01/2021 10:19

@LadyEloise pity they couldnt link the cases some how.

OP posts:
Drowninginwashing · 21/01/2021 10:28

Maura Murray
Jennifer Kesse
Breanna Maitland.

I suspect all were murdered, very sadly. But such strange cases.

pistachionuts · 21/01/2021 10:30

Also the disappearance of Tara calico and the Polaroid photograph found in a car park that some believe to be of her

LadyEloise · 21/01/2021 10:32

@BorderlineHappy There may or may not be a link.

Annie Mc Carrick, Deirdre Jacobs and the other women who disappeared in the Leinster area of Ireland.

I would also love justice for the killers of the wee girls, Mary Boyle (6) in Donegal in 1977 who disappeared in 1977 and Bernadette Connolly (10) abducted and murdered in Sligo in 1970. There are credible theories on these but no one has been brought to justice.

If there is a hell, I hope there is a particularly awful part of it for the perpetrators of the crimes mentioned on this thread.

Toddlerteaplease · 21/01/2021 10:42

Andrew Gosden
Claudia Lawrence

MoonBabyAndMe · 21/01/2021 10:52

A local one to me of a 20 year old man who was shot dead on his sisters doorstep 12 years ago, the family still campaign to find the people who did it. The police believe it was mistaken identity.

LadyEloise · 21/01/2021 10:53

@BorderlineHappy
I got the pm. I agree but think surely the police are working on it.

NancyDrew1966 · 21/01/2021 11:18

Andrew Gosden
Alistair Wilson
Asha degree
All just very odd cases.
Andrew Gosden - family are sceptical that he was groomed but the million to one chance that he just happened to meet a killer in the few hours he was in London seems unbelievable.
Alistair Wilson - really good podcast by the bbc on iplayer. Apparently someone was writing a book about the case, may well have been published by now. Some suggestion he got involved with or on the wrong side of organised crime over dodgy land deals.
Asha degree just weird that an 11 year old child runs away in the middle of the night just wearing a dress. Last seen walking along an isolated highway in storm conditions. The discovery of her rucksack years later buried in undergrowth....

Adviceneededalways · 21/01/2021 12:02

The Chillenden murders and attempted murder of youngest daughter.

So so sad and there is quite significant chance that the guy in prison for it (Michael Stone) didn’t do it!!

BorderlineHappy · 21/01/2021 12:13

Andrew Gosden - family are sceptical that he was groomed but the million to one chance that he just happened to meet a killer in the few hours he was in London seems unbelievable.

This is just my theory.

Andrew didnt take the bus home from school anymore. He walked.

What if he met someone on these walks, and they arranged to go to London.

That would explain why he only took so much money and bought a one way ticket. As the person he was meeting would be driving them back. And obviously something happened and he never came home.

I couldn’t possibly only pick three - I have a terrible morbid fascination with these types of cases and read them a lot. They are heartbreaking.

There are several noted on here that I don’t believe are unsolved, just that family/public don’t accept the most likely version of events is probably true.

@Louerin I haven’t heard of this story. Is Noah your son? Either way, my heart goes out to him Flowers
