Mine would be
(1) Philip Cairns, disappeared in 1986 from Dublin. He was 13

(2 )Trevor Deely, disappeared walking home from a Christmas party in 2000.

(3). Raonaid Murray murdered yards from her home. She was only 17.
Never been solved.

It would be impossible to give 3. Like most people I would like to see peace given to the loved ones of Suzy, Ben, Madeleine, Claudia, Nora and others, especially Helen (McCourt).

A young woman was killed close to my childhood home and the killer was never found. I have never forgotten her - although she was a stranger to me and not local - and wonder now if any progress could be made, given developments in forensic science since.

I used to live near the Elm Guest House. Someone periodically used to go around putting up posters with photos and information about the victims on bus stops and things. Very sad, but I'm not sure what they were trying to accomplish.

I don't believe there's a Manchester Pusher. Every city and town with an unfenced canal next to clubs/bars has a similar Pusher story. Shoving someone into a not particularly large canal where the water is almost level with the path isn't a very effective way of killing someone - you'd only die from being pushed in if you were very drunk and couldn't swim and were very unlucky - yet this pusher apparently has a 100% success rate. If it was a serial killer there'd be loads of people recounting stories of being shoved in and managing to clamber out. It's sad, and I'm surprised Manchester Council hasn't come under more pressure to fence some of the really dangerous parts, but having been there it's easy to see how drunk people could fall in and accidentally drown.

3 cases id like to see solved, two of which have not been mentioned on this thread at all, sadly I knew both of the victims Sad.

Just thought of another that I don’t think has been mentioned.....

Meredith Kercher - I’ve always felt Amanda Knox and her boyfriend weren’t being truthful.

*Has anyone wondered about the Falconio/Joanne Lees trial? I really do wonder what happened to him and what actually happened.

I wonder why people think she had something to do with it.
Did she not act the way you are supposed to.

Shes not familiar with the area, how would she be able to get rid of the body.

I think they where attacked by Murdoch, she managed to escape. He brought Peters body somewhere else and dumped it.He knew that place like the back of his hands.*

Did he ? He didn't try very hard to find her when she ran (not very far) into the darkness to get away from him, and he had a dog with him. Also those home made restraints JL was wearing. Did she put those on by herself ? Where's the evidence to say PF's body was ever in Bradley Murdoch's vehicle ? Murdoch being the convicted murderer.

The police said there was enough blood on the ground to say that PF was dead from blood loss. So, where's his body ? If it's a drugs run gone wrong, were there drugs or evidence of drugs in the rental vehicle ?

I watched a documentary about it, can't remember whether it was YouTube or t.v. but Joanne Lees came across as wilful, didn't take it seriously and thought the investigation was funny. She knew/knows a lot more than she's letting on. She's keeping her silence to save her own skin. Disgusting behaviour and she couldn't give a toss about PF or his family. She wasn't grieving for him and didn't seem to miss him either.

She came across as vacant to the point of creepy or even stoned ?

I think Amanda Knox just didn’t particularly like Meredith, wasn’t overly upset and was young and a bit daft. Another woman who didn’t behave as expected infront of the media and police just like Joanna Lees. Does make them murderers.

I’ve never heard about there been drugs in the Falconio camper before. Does put a different slant on it.

I think the person who was arrested wasn’t arrested for a long time after, maybe years? So plenty of time to scrub his truck more than once. Maybe he had a tarp in it?

popgoestyeweasel · 24/01/2021 19:31

@ToffeeNotCoffee the blood on the ground was mixed with animal blood, where that came from who knows. There was definitely not enough blood to definitively say someone would die from that amount of blood loss.

The police looked at JL emails in the days after PF disappearance and she had been emailing a man she'd had an affair with asking if he's like to meet up in Italy. I don't think those are the actions of a woman worried sick as her boyfriend had just been shot and kidnapped by a mad man in the middle of the night.

Her recollection of the time leading up to the incident is off too. The owner of the Ti Tree roadhouse said he served JL and PF earlier on the day of the disappearance and that JL was speaking to a man outside fitting the description of the attacker, it wasn't murdoch. She denies stopping at the Ti Tree roadhouse that day.

There's much more to this case.

Amanda Knox might be a liar but it's just not physically possible for her to have been present at the murder scene without leaving a single fingerprint or scrap of DNA (while the murder scene was completely covered with Rudy Guede's DNA, fingerprints, footprints, etc. etc.).

Some people have suggested she was involved in the planning but not physically present, but there just isn't any evidence to suggest that.

Local to me - Carol Lannen and Elizabeth McCabe were found murdered in Templeton Woods on the outskirts of Dundee in 1979 and 1980. There were a lot of similarities but also a lot of differences between the two deaths. Various names have been put forward for the killer/s over the years, but no-one definite. Sadly, a lot of the forensic evidence has either been lost or has degraded.
Did Lord Lucan murder Sandra Rivett, and where did he disappear to?
Did the IRA kill Shergar? If they did, where is he buried?

MH 370.... wtf happened to it?!
Part of one of the wings eventually washed up on a beach on an island somewhere. Tests were done and it was confirmed to be part of MH370. So we know pretty conclusively that it came down - just not how/why

Assuming you're referring to the ludicrous recent C4 documentary? About the least balanced and tedious piece of reporting ever. But from your reaction, it seems it hit its mark.

Joanna Lees was deeply traumatised and then treated horrifically by the Australian police and press.

She remains close to Peter falconio's family, and they supported each other significantly in the aftermath, despite your opinion that's she doesn't care about them.

It's standard 'the woman must be blamed' 'burn the witch' misogyny - see also Kate McCann and Ananda Knox

@WaltzingBetty The documentary wasn't ludicrous IMO. It raised questions and informed viewers of previously unreleased information along with quite clear flaws in the Northern Territories police investigation which subsequently could have flawed the outcome of the court case.

Your point about a woman not acting the way she is 'supposed' to and it impacting others view of her is valid. But the facts are JL was emailing another man days after PF disappearance and then lied about this on oath in court. This would obviously call her character in to question.

Her own stepfather is now questioning the guilt of Murdoch www.examinerlive.co.uk/news/local-news/stepdad-peter-falconios-girlfriend-convinced-18578581

I think JL/PF and Murdoch.
Who do you think is genuinely a killer.

Somebody who was in trouble all their life or someone on holiday.

There's a lot more to this. I keep coming back to, 'where is Peter Falconio's body ?'

The story of it being a drug deal/drug run gone wrong might / might not be true.

I think Murdoch is part of the story, not the whole story.

lurkingattheback · 28/01/2021 15:57

With so many here I've never heard of, can anyone recommend any documentaries to watch?

louise4754 · 01/02/2021 23:16

Re Ben Needham.

I'm sure. On his death bed a guy said he had accidentally killed him with a digger while he was building a road and he then filled it with concrete. If that's not true I've no idea how I came up with that.

LadyEloise · 01/02/2021 23:28

I remember reading that too but I thought that was discounted ?

MolyHolyGuacamole · 02/02/2021 00:00

I listen to a lot of American crime podcasts so this is inspired by that:

Brian Shaffer. Disappeared after a night out in Ohio. CCTV only has him entering the bar (which allegedly only has one entrance/exit and was on the first floor) but never leaving.

Kendrick Johnson. Student who went missing and was found in a rolled up gym mat. Ruled an accident but many believe it was murder/cover up, and there are mysterious circumstances following his death such as all of his organs being removed at the autopsy.

Elisa Lam. Went missing at the Cecil Hotel, very strange CCTV was taken of her in the lift (can find on YouTube) and her body was found more than 2 weeks later in one of the water tanks. Ruled suicide but many questions including how she got into the water tank.

@IhateBoswell

*The Pusher (nicknamed by locals in Manchester) but police deny there is a serial killer where a lot of young men in Manchester end up in the canal. It's interesting because of the denial of a actual killer despite the high amount of deaths in the canal in the area*

I read a comment on Reddit where someone suggested that some of those deaths could be attributed to the recently convicted rapist Reynhard Sinaga, who drugged his victims. The men were drugged and it is a chilling possibility some of them may have fell into the water.

I really believe that the rapist had something to do with it. It's strange that it was only men that seemed to fall in the canal. The guy who escaped from the rapist was very lucky.

@Robbybobtail

I’ve been reading up a bit about Billie-jo Jenkins as it brought back the case when a pp mentioned her but I had completely forgotten about it - I can’t believe it was 24 ago.

I find it astonishing that “Mr B.” wasn’t looked into more thoroughly. I can’t seem to find any explanation as to why he was disregarded as a suspect? He was mentally unwell, was right near Billie’s house at the time of the murder (several witnesses) was acting erratically and was later found to have some kind of obsession with bits of plastic bags (he had a pieces of one in his trousers and also shoved up his nose, as did Billie, inexplicably).
It seems to me he was a very likely candidate so WHY did they discount him? Does anyone know?

I think they were so focused on getting the foster dad for it that they did not want to consider any other suspects.
