Mine would be
(1) Philip Cairns, disappeared in 1986 from Dublin. He was 13

(2 )Trevor Deely, disappeared walking home from a Christmas party in 2000.

(3). Raonaid Murray murdered yards from her home. She was only 17.
Never been solved.

I listened to a podcast about MH 370 and they said it was pretty conclusive that it was a suicide mission on the part of the pilot. They found flight simulator practises on his personal computer of a very similar wrong route that the plane is also presumed to have taken and also there was something about the way that communication changed between different airspaces that could only have done deliberately by someone who knew what they were doing.

It's never been found because the Indian Ocean is fucking massive and an aeroplane is relatively very small, plus the speed it may have crashed would have cause it to completely break up on impact.

Awful Sad

Both local to me and recent - Tapiwa Matuwi and Lorraine Ridout. I find it incredible that in this day and age with so much CCTV, Ring doorbells etc people can still disappear without a trace.

And more personally, my dad. He disappeared without a trace on the other side of the world in the 1980s, when I was 11. I have a file that includes police papers from the time and they clearly have absolutely no idea what happened.

Flappitsnappit · 19/01/2021 19:31

And Eliza Lam. That one is so strange!

Of course it was and it’s happened before as well.

Lots of these aren’t really mysteries, there are plausible explanations but just no evidence to prove them. But that doesn’t mean that the most likely explanation isn’t the true one.

A lot of the high profile ones mentioned already but top 3

Allan Bryant Jnr disappearance
Alistair Wilson murder
Sandy Drummond murder

Oh and the young poor woman with learning difficulties from the west coast of Scotland whose dodgy carers reported her missing and spun ridiculous stories about where she supposedly was ..can’t remember her name though.

tigerlily20 · 19/01/2021 19:46

The Clydach murders (solved but apparently they've got the wrong man)

Opelika Jane Doe

Patrice Endres - my bets on Rob

MooominMamma · 19/01/2021 19:47

  1. Madeleine McCann
  2. Eliza Lam - the girl who was found dead in a hotel water tank after being seen on camera acting strangely in an elevator
  3. MH370
tigerlily20 · 19/01/2021 20:21

@Handsoffstrikesagain at first I thought he must have done it but I read a bit more about it and watch a few docs and the evidence is so flimsy how could they have convicted him? Hope the truth comes out

Brahumbug · 19/01/2021 20:23

Eliza Lam isn't a mystery, the poor girl was having a psychotic episodes.

  1. Madeleine McCann
  2. MH370
  3. The London monster.
ColdAsIceCubes · 19/01/2021 20:23

  3. Ben Needham
calmearth · 19/01/2021 20:38

The 3 boys murdered at Robin Hood Hills in Arkansas. The documentaries are fascinating.

Just googled Andrew Gosden, no idea why I had never heard of him. He was 14, why wasn’t a bigger media push made of him?

roseyrose2020 · 19/01/2021 21:26

@nyoman

Andrew Gosden

He is the spitting image of my son, and it makes me weep every time I see the posters with him on (there is one on a route I take once a week). I don't think I would ever recover if my son disappeared like that, so I cannot imagine to despair of his parents. I also wonder just how distressed he felt that he had to run away. Just sonraw and upsetting.

I remember this case. It is really sad. I hope that he did run away and is living somewhere happily. London is such a big scary place for a 14 year old though. Hopefully he will get in touch with his parents one day 🙏
MerryInthechelseahotel · 19/01/2021 21:34

letsallscream I might be wrong but I thought a farmer had told a friend he had killed Ben by accident on his tractor and buried his body in a panic. When this farmer died his friend told people what he had said. Ben's body hasn't been found though.

MrsKypp · 19/01/2021 21:38

Ben Needham and all missing children.

The Mc Canns have received mountains of funding despite behaving terribly. Who the hell leaves 3 children of that age alone in a holiday home abroad to go out for a meal? they are very wealthy and could have paid for e.g. a babysitter. Notwithstanding, that is not poor Madeleine's fault so I hope they solve the case for her sake and her innocent siblings.

Then all other missing people.

I feel so sad for the families and loved ones when they never find out what happened.
