Totally agree on the original veggie options vs vegan.

I'll add the 'old' Cauldron foods tofu. I even wrote to ask why their 'new improved' version was so horrible and they wrote back very apologetic that the Soil Association had specified health rules as well as organic rules so they had to make the recipe healthier (ie yucky).

I once discussed the recipe changes to Walkers crisps to the guy who ran the brand and he said they'd changed it in small increments for about 10 years to lower salt and fat levels. As he said 'can you imagine how lush they must have tasted in their fully unhealthy glory back in 1990?' Drool.

Yes to Cabana bars! I would love to have one of those again.
Also Nutty bars, they were my favourite.

Does anyone else remember Welcome bars? I had one as a small child, loved it and then never saw them again!

LittleFriendSusan · 24/01/2021 08:09

@Grenlei

I found some Aapri pads in our local 99p shop several years ago, but they were nowhere near as abrasive as the ones I remember from my teens! I also used to like the facial scrub too.

Following on my earlier post, I have remembered the special Bejam potatoes were called Noisettes. Apparently Tesco now sell something similar...I live in hope, but bet they won't be as I remember!

I've bought big bags of Pommes Noisettes from Lidl a few times (they were specials during their French week).

I just searched for a cabana bar recipe and found this. The writer was also reminiscing over various sweet treats that have been mentioned on here.

The Ben & Jerry’s ice cream book has the Cherry Garcia recipe in it. I haven’t made it so can’t vouch for that particular flavour, but I have made others in the book and they are pretty spot on.

That's a lovely article and recipe - thank you for posting it!

I'm currently reading Grace Dent's new book, Hungry and she conjures up some wonderful foodie memories from the 70s and 80s.

BoneyEm1972 · 25/01/2021 20:09

@woodhill

Pork breakfast sausage from Sainsbury's
You can still get this! I had pack of breakfast sausage slices in my last delivery. My shopping is delivered from a Scottish store, so that may or may not be a factor.

It is bloody gorgeous.

Lincoln biscuits

cautiouscovidity · 27/01/2021 23:12

@GaryUnicorn

Lincoln biscuits
You can still get them. I think they're predominantly made for the Irish market:

clpsmum · 27/01/2021 23:14

Omg I was jist fantasising about the mushroom double Swiss today

Springcleanforthemayqueen · 28/01/2021 08:05

I've been trying to remember for years who made the cheese spread in a jar! Love this thread!

Coffee Montego biscuits.
The original Phileas Fogg tortilla chips, very moreish.
Impulse Nirvana spray. In a black and red tin, smelt very heavily musky/patchouli-ish. Perfect for the aspiring goths that my friends and I were, couldn't have been coincidence that a track on Love by The Cult had the same name? Grin
And more recently M & S Pizza Fries. Absolutely delicious, my son loved them but of course they disappeared.

UnaLength · 30/01/2021 07:45

Has anyone else seen that prawn cocktail Quavers are coming back? Saw an advert for them yesterday. What a coincidence!

GaryUnicorn · 31/01/2021 11:27

You can buy Lincoln biscuits in Ireland, they are now made by jacobs. There was a fire on the factory line in the Uk, and they never rebuilt the machinery. You can buy them online, but 6 packets a time. I could not be trusted with 6 packs !

MapleMay11 · 31/01/2021 11:40

Banana Toffos
Texan bars
Body Shop kiwi fruit lip balm in the glass pot - divine!
Fresh Minty Eggs

sueelleker · 31/01/2021 11:50

Cachet perfume by Prince Matchabelli. It was my mid-season perfume for years, but not even the fragrance websites have it now.

Bellyjellee · 01/02/2021 10:43

Does anybody remember a two tone either shampoo or conditioner or maybe it was a 2 in one? You shook the bottle to mix it and then it would separate again. It's been bugging me for years, it must have been from the mid 80s. I thought it was the most amazing thing when I was a kid but don't know what it was called.

tothesea · 01/02/2021 13:58

Was it called Once? I think it had two colours that mixed together then separated. I remember bugging my mum to get it!
