Here we are again, gaining sequels even more rapidly than the Fast and the Furious...

I am hiding mask threads like crazy atm.

SirSamuelVimes · 18/01/2021 15:35

@BogRollBOGOF

I've just had a craving to go to IKEA. It used to be one of our Friday nights out for the meatballs and daim cake. They hadn't ling opened the revamped store and extended cafe either.
I am going to IKEA! Tonight! Ok it's only for click & collect but I'm still very excited. New bookcase ahoy!
ISaySteadyOn · 18/01/2021 16:41

I saw that. Heartening, sort of.

TabbyStar · 18/01/2021 16:47

Tricia Greenhalgh is suggesting on Twitter that runners wear masks! Honestly, how much wrongness is there in that - I have run with a mask on (in running shop on treadmill to get new trainers and to catch a train) and it's horrible, possibly dangerous for those of us with cardiovascular conditions. Also, masked blokes running towards me in the dark, or in the countryside - no thanks. And what about actually being able to see your feet so as not to fall? How much evidence is there even that runners are killing people? People need to be exercising more, not less. Lots of us wouldn't even be out on the roads if they hadn't effing well closed the gym and pools.

My Twitter account is work though, so I have to be careful what I write so as not to be seen as a granny-killer. It's bloody infuriating though.

And breathe Grin

dingit · 18/01/2021 16:49

Someone has just posted this on our local Facebook page. Angry

Seriouslymole · 18/01/2021 17:09

@dingit - oh my word, that would make me see red.

I have told myself to be positive today. We've stopped looking at the news so much but I predict a change in rhetoric in the next month. I think they will slowly but surely start focussing on vaccinations rather than deaths to encourage everyone into some sort of "ok we can go out now without encountering certain death" mentality. Or at least that is my fervent hope.

We are trying the positivity at home for the sake, particularly, of DS (age 12) who really fed off our negativity and it hasn't done any of us any favours. Anyway, we can but try.

And, regardless of the sodding politicians, Spring will come and with it life, light and a bit of hope.

ISaySteadyOn · 18/01/2021 17:11

That meme. Fine. I will go out, live my life and die. Welcome to the world.

Vivir con miedo es como vivir a medias and I am sick to the back teeth of being made to live a half life because other people are afraid.

TooManyPlatesInMotion · 18/01/2021 17:22

Oh good lord, that meme posted above is something else.

MercyBooth · 18/01/2021 17:37

Something going on over at e.on We cant top up our meter and we arent the only ones.

TheOrchidKiller · 18/01/2021 17:41

All that meme needs to make it worse is a black & white drawing, preferably incorporating a Giant Doctor sighing in unison* with Giant Undertaker, & a queue of grannies leaving the garden centre, on the way to you-know-where...

  • (is sighing still allowed?)
ISaySteadyOn · 18/01/2021 17:43

No. No breathing. Breathing spreads the virus.

TheOrchidKiller · 18/01/2021 17:52

"No. No breathing. Breathing spreads the virus."
I thought it was eye contact what spreads it?Smile
I have read somewhere that if you pass another person when outside you should try holding your breath.... Helpful hint to joggers, not.

TheOrchidKiller · 18/01/2021 18:04

This just spotted on the BBC News site
"Asked if people should feel confident about booking holidays, Matt Hancock says he will be going to Cornwall in the summer"

Has Cornwall not suffered enough?

Iheartmysmart · 18/01/2021 18:13

Good grief that meme is awful!

A relative of mine is a florist and currently has flowers to prepare for a funeral nearly every day until early February. However she says that the majority of them are not directly Covid deaths now. Lots of older people with existing serious illnesses as expected this time of year. Last April she had lots of Covid funerals. Strangely despite being in several funeral premises on a daily basis with nothing more than her apron and a mask she remained virus free throughout.

NeedWineNow · 18/01/2021 18:15

Dear God that meme. Who the hell thinks this stuff up?

Iheartmysmart · 18/01/2021 18:21

Hmm reading that back she obviously had clothes on, just no PPE. One of the requests was to have flowers woven into a wicker coffin!

smallandimperfectlyformed · 18/01/2021 18:30

I remember in lockdown number one reading on Facebook an absolutely insane post by a woman who said that there was no reason to go out at all, you could open your window for fresh air. I was surprised then by how many people liked that comment but I was hopeful that now we are in number 3 stupid stuff like that and that awful meme would have died down. Went to Lidl today and they had the messages over the tannoy about social distancing etc, I asked the shop assistant how often he heard it. He said they seemed to come on every 90 seconds- slight exaggeration there but he was clearly fed up! The most annoying thing about it though was he said that it plays that from 5am when the staff are the only ones in the store as it doesn't open until 8am!

Pleasedontdothat · 18/01/2021 18:43

Oh ffs - my sister gave my contact info to track and trace so now I’ve been told to self isolate until the weekend. I was sitting near her at a funeral and we were all masked up to the eyeballs.. I can’t even get freed by getting a negative test because I have no
symptoms and even if I pretend to have symptoms and the test is negative I ‘still might develop symptoms after the test’Hmm.

So people coming from abroad could test after 5 days and get out of quarantine that way but I can’t Angry

ISaySteadyOn · 18/01/2021 18:46

Flowers that's so annoying

MercyBooth · 18/01/2021 19:01

NHS worker on ITV News when they were filming on a ward said its because people arent staying home. FFS Im fed up with this. The blame rhetoric didnt work in the 1980s AIDS epidemic. WTF do people think it will work now. And if you still attach blame to being ill then there will be no change when this is over. People will still go into work when ill with a cold/flu because they will have continued to internalize that ill = blame.

TheOrchidKiller · 18/01/2021 19:04

@Pleasedontdothat

"So people coming from abroad could test after 5 days and get out of quarantine that way but I can’t"

Yes, I don't understand this either!

How frustrating.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 18/01/2021 19:19

@dingit
To counteract your meme, I saw this one today. Strangely the first place I wanted to share it was here....

I've been for a run with a friend. We were recognised by a mutual aquaintence outside one of our houses chatting as we were going to part company. Mutual aquaintence can be hard to read in the humour department, and commented about exercise Vs socialising... we read off our distance covered and heart rates from our watches Grin

That's rubbish Please. I don't think it actually meets the criteria of close contact if you were masked and more than 2m either.

TheOrchidKiller · 18/01/2021 19:26

Unfortunately, Bogroll you committed the sin of exhanging pleasantries with your friend whilst exercising. No one should be talking 'n' walking, let alone saying, "Bye, same time tomorrow then?"

Poor DD has been very anxious about going out for a walk in case she gets stopped. Honestly, what are we doing to people?
