Be honest... do you think being a size 10 is more attractive than a size 14?

Just that... no offence intended it's just to settle an argument I'm interested in people's views. Let's say specifically you have an average / reasonably attractive looking woman of average height, do you think she will look better as a size 10 than she does a 14?

Yes, 10 is better. Less fat is more attractive.

KitKat1985 · 13/01/2021 20:55

Yep. 10 years ago I was a size 10 and now a size 14. Definitely looked better as a size 10. Sad

MrsMiaWallis · 13/01/2021 20:55

Yes.

Xerochrysum · 13/01/2021 20:56

I think it depend on individual person. I am size 8/10, but I'm shapeless and flabby. My friend is maybe 12/14, but she has lovely curves and very fit.

maddy68 · 13/01/2021 20:56

It depends on shape entirely.

Robbybobtail · 13/01/2021 20:58

I’m currently a 14, (mainly caused by lockdown/boredom and just generally being greedy) and I look at photos from only last year when I was a size 10 and I look ten years younger. I felt great too, loads of energy. But I love food!

HeronLanyon · 13/01/2021 20:59

The only thought I have is that society puts so much pressure still in women to be slim that sometimes a size 14 is not fully happy about not being a size 10. I don’t think the reverse is so common. Only relevance is the most attractive thing about us all - all sizes- is our confidence/happiness/contentment with ourselves.

MillieEpple · 13/01/2021 20:59

Depends on the height. My tall friends are all 14 and look stunning. Im a 5ft5 14 and look dumpy..

fiorentina · 13/01/2021 21:01

Personally I look much better as a 10-12 than 14. I looked fat as a size 14 even though I was reasonably fit.

starsinthegutter · 13/01/2021 21:01

Sexiness is about confidence and self esteem, not dress size... certainly not between 10 and 14 at any rate. I would love to be a 14 again but that was my slimmest 😁

june2007 · 13/01/2021 21:02

No, it depends on build not just weight.

IdblowJonSnow · 13/01/2021 21:02

Generally speaking yes. But it does depend on height and build and where the weight is carried by that person.
I'm tiny and despite only weighing about 8 stone 4 am on the heavy side.
Look best around 7.5 to 8 stone max. I look better when I'm slimmer.

StillMedusa · 13/01/2021 21:03

It depends.
Now I'm over 50 I suspect my face would look better (it less wrinkly and haggard) with an extra stone on.I might even have some bust! But the rest of me prefers being a 10 (I'm 5 ft 7) and it's the size I am without doing anything more than dog walking. But I have friends and colleagues who are larger but far more beautiful that I ever could be!

DigitalChristmas · 13/01/2021 21:03

Depends on whether she’s got any boobs as a size ten.

IcedPurple · 13/01/2021 21:04

Unless your name is Nigella Lawson, then probably yes.

I used to be a size 8, and now, being in my 50s, I'm quite a bit bigger. I definitely looked better at a size 8.

Lorw · 13/01/2021 21:06

I reckon this should come with a trigger warning tbh.

I’m a size 18- 36K boobs. I became bulimic a few years ago and dropped from a healthy happy size 18 to a an incredibly unwell size 10, and to keep that up I barely ate anything and went to the gym 5 times a week to the point I was passing out. I thought it was everything I wanted but I was miserable and hated how I looked cause I have MASSIVE boobs so I looked stupid. I’m now back to a happy size 18/20 and wouldn’t change it tbh.

Confidence and loving yourself is more attractive than anything else.

snappyoldfartpants · 13/01/2021 21:06

Yes

Ritasueandbobtoo9 · 13/01/2021 21:06

No, but my knees hurt the wrong side of a 12 so health wise better to be a 10 (for me anyway, a bit more for others),

TurquoiseDress · 13/01/2021 21:07

In my experience, thinking about myself, absolutely yes size 10 is better...I am short though!

sofiaaaaaa · 13/01/2021 21:08

Surely a woman would have the same body shape at either size? An hourglass would still be an hourglass etc. I think it would have to be more of an extreme difference to completely change one’s “build”

AnneLovesGilbert · 13/01/2021 21:08

At 5’3 you’d be quite overweight at a 14 and that doesn’t suit most people.

What’s the argument OP?

Caramel81 · 13/01/2021 21:08

I think a size 12 is the perfect size for someone of that height so inbetween the two. I would prefer to be a 10 over a 14 though. I’m a 14 at the moment and my DP prefers me slimmer and I also think I look better too.

Angrymum22 · 13/01/2021 21:08

30 years ago when I was at my thinnest I was a neat size 12. Now I’m 3 stone heavier and a neat size 14. I have one or two old favourites at the back of my wardrobe that are 1980s size 14, I will have to loose those 3 stone to get anywhere near them.
A 1980s size 12 was what all my slim average sized friends were wearing.
Most of them would be wearing a size 6 nowadays.
I suspect that with each generation they resize clothing ranges to place the average size 12 in the middle of the average sized woman for that generation.
I have a lovely designer suit from the 1960s, my mums, 1980s size 12 me was never able to get into it.
Size is irrelevant, if you squeeze yourself into the wrong size you will always look fat.

BiBabbles · 13/01/2021 21:08
  1. I find those who have wider shoulders and hips than me more attractive, and I wear a 10-12 in most brands with a loose fit now (though all my jumpers seem to be 14-16, I guess I just like those bigger or it's a weird sizing difference between brands) so I'm thinking someone larger than me that way would likely wear a larger size to be comfortable whatever their weight was.

Really, I'm terrible at knowing my own clothes size - constant look at size guides when I do shop and tend to try on a range back when we could in charity shops. I'm clueless when it comes to telling it with other people before getting into brand or just range of clothes within the same brand sometimes differences.

Inkpaperstars · 13/01/2021 21:09

It depends because for me a 14 does mean I am carrying extra fat in the wrong places, and 10 looks much better, but I do have friends who are genuinely curvy in the sense of boobs and hips who would wear a 14-16 for that reason even though they don’t have excess fat elsewhere.

Frankly I’d be delighted to be either right now!
