Be honest... do you think being a size 10 is more attractive than a size 14?

Just that... no offence intended it's just to settle an argument I'm interested in people's views. Let's say specifically you have an average / reasonably attractive looking woman of average height, do you think she will look better as a size 10 than she does a 14?

Some people are too thin at a size 10, some are too fat at a 14, it's impossible to say. I personally look best at a size 12.

withmycoffee · 13/01/2021 20:30

If someone is average height then at size 14 they have an unhealthy excess of body fat. We have got used to seeing it so think it's normal. It's not.

RickiTarr · 13/01/2021 20:31

Depends on the person.

EdwardCullensBiteOnTheSide · 13/01/2021 20:31

Yes. I think a size 10 is just about right, not too thin for most people, just nice and slim. I was a size 10 in late teens and very early 20s. I am a 14 now but very nearly a 12 as I have been running for 8 months, I feel much healthier but I still feel quite big. If I can get to a 10 again I will definitely feel and look much better I believe.

SarahAndQuack · 13/01/2021 20:32

@kowari

Definitely a 10. I'm 5ft 5 and I was a size 10 when I had a BMI of 24, so I would be very overweight at a 14.
This demonstrates the problem with the question.

A 'size 10' is not an objective measure - you can be a size 10 in one shop and a size 14 (or 16) in another.

donquixotedelamancha · 13/01/2021 20:32

Attractive in what way?

Fits the stereotype of what women are supposed to look like- size 10.

Whether I will fancy them- totally depends but more likely 14.

The answer to the latter will be different for other people and for the person who's weight is the subject. Being happy with what you look like is a big factor.

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 13/01/2021 20:32

Totally depends on build. At a size 10 (though admittedly the lowest end of a ten), I have no bum, flat boobs and I look gaunt. I lost quite a lot of weight after DD2 and got to my lowest adult weight 9st 7, size 10. Looking back at photos I look awful and a close friend who hadn’t seen me much during pregnancy, but did see me after the weight loss, confessed later that he genuinely thought I must be ill. On the other hand, at a size 14, I look curvy, but not overweight, and healthy. 🤷‍♀️

@OppsUpsSide

Sometimes, but not always.

MushMonster · 13/01/2021 20:33

I think I would look better as a size 10, currently a 14 or 12, depending on which shop and item.
I still have quite a bit of weight to lose.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 13/01/2021 20:33

Depends on frame. Someone like me who carries all their weight on their tummy looks better a smaller size. Someone with curvy hips/boobs might look better a bigger size.

tatutata · 13/01/2021 20:34

Women admire thin women. Most men seem to be happy with anything from a 10 - 16.

Sickoffamilydrama · 13/01/2021 20:34

Isn't this all dependant on the person? I'm assuming you are equating size/weight with attractiveness and I don't believe the two go hand in hand.

I'm 5 ft 8" & I have never been smaller than a large 12 most of my life I've been a 14, when I was younger I was extremely fit I used to ride horses for hours so for me a 14 isn't over weight. However for some of my friends a 14 is overweight, so it's all very individual.

I certainly have never had a problem attracting men so I can conclude that being a size 14 is attractive to some!

Also size isn't necessary linked to attractiveness I've have friends who are very slim and some very overweight and it's confidence and self love that's attractive not what size they are.

That’s just assumption. Someone could be average height and a size 14 and have a lot of muscle. It isn’t always fatty tissue that pushes the BMI up.
DenisetheMenace · 13/01/2021 20:35

On me, yes, 10, perfect, 8 too thin, 14 uncomfortable.

On a good friend, no. She’s a 16, perfectly proportioned and beautiful. Her face looks gaunt when she’s thinner.

Poppingnostopping · 13/01/2021 20:35

Up til about 45 I would always say 10. Most of my friends are 14's or more though now and they look fine, I'm also around that weight. I do have one or two thinner friends, one looks very glamorous but it's true that a little extra weight, probably a 12 might be kinder to the wrinkles past a certain stage. I'm eating very healthily and would prefer to be slightly larger than my size 8-10 as I know I'd look older if I dropped down to what was a very petite size (in 80's money).

That's still just vanity though!

XDownwiththissortofthingX · 13/01/2021 20:35

Depends what you mean by 'more attractive', and 'look better'.

Who is this supposed to look more attractive to, and by what criterion are you defining 'better'?

Waxonwaxoff0 · 13/01/2021 20:36

I'm currently a size 12 but I have narrow hips and small boobs, so I look awful this size, I just look fat. I look best as a size 8. But for some women size 12 is perfect and looks lovely. It really varies.

RavingAnnie · 13/01/2021 20:36

Depends on the person. I look awful as a size 14 but some people carry weight well.

kowari · 13/01/2021 20:36

@SarahAndQuack I was a size 10 in h&m

MsMeNz · 13/01/2021 20:36

I'd say quite a bit depends on body shape and height hourglasses can get away with 14 more so than maybe an apple but everyone is different. Also face fat and shape makes a difference some ppl look chubby faced at 14 and other look gaunt at 10.

But I guess 10 would for.most short ppl look better generally than a 14. But I'm going a bit middle ground here and say why not hit the sweet middle with a 12 😁

Almostslimjim · 13/01/2021 20:36

Depends on shape. I'm a pear and definitely better at a 10. My friend is an hourglass figure and looks her best around a 14.

princesspeppax · 13/01/2021 20:36

I've been both, and felt I looked a lot better a size 10, but i'm tall so maybe thats why

Bemystarlord · 13/01/2021 20:36

Yes definitely, i’m currently a 14 and look a million times better as a 10. The larger i am the older and frumpier i look, the difference in just a couple of sizes is very noticeable on me.

ThePricklySheep · 13/01/2021 20:36

Usually yes, for average height as you state.

Why though?

OwlWearingGlasses · 13/01/2021 20:37

No
