Pay with Dict8

Good Morning all Dict8 ladies

OP posts:
Gally123 · 17/03/2021 16:05

Interesting to read the latest with the Uber drivers - it seems they are now being paid minimal wage, with holiday pay and sick pay plus money paid into their pensions. The payment is being backdated. Also their daily payment starts when they log on - no waiting around for fares and not being paid - and they still have the flexibility to say when they want to work and where (ie not having to drive into areas they do not want to). I would not mind a contract like that - that pays me when I am available for work, at a decent rate, does not insist I work times I do not want to, or in specialists/dictators I am not familiar with etc. But I think the key point is the decent minimal wage, backdated.

danblack87 · 20/03/2021 15:13

HI all.
I am due my first Vaccine on Tuesday morning of next work. Work in Dict8 has been busier last week or so but still a third down on previously. Anywhere between £400 to £600. It works for me currently but I do sometimes wish we could get back to pre-COVID. Hope you are all okay

danblack87 · 20/03/2021 15:14

That's £400 to £600/month!!!

Gally123 · 20/03/2021 15:29

@danblack87- but if we had contracts like the Uber drivers now have with sick pay and holiday pay and pensions plus the flexibility to work when they want etc, you would be paid at least the minimum wage - and remember DICT8 pay their proof readers £26,000 or they did a few years ago, it might be more now. I would not mind earning £26,000 (pro rata).

Good luck with your COVID jab - mine was 2 weeks ago and my arm is still sore, but thankfully the only side effect I have had (so far, until the second jab).

Gally123 · 24/03/2021 13:00

Did everyone receive the email from DICT8 about extra specialties? Now seems to be the time to request if you want extra from their list. Not sure if this means they expect work to pick up generally or they are taking on new clients, or that people who have applied to work for them have not been up to standard.

I had a good day yesterday, but not particularly this morning, and TPro has also been very quiet. It was weird one day last week on Tpro with nothing new coming in until I realised it was St Patrick's Day and they had a bank holiday!

Lovemydaxie · 24/03/2021 13:49

@Gally123 I too received that email. I was a bit surprised though to be honest because I already have 2 of those specialities and although the work has picked up significantly, the files disappear really quickly so there must be a fair few of us already. Yesterday and today for me has been pretty good I must say. Still, better that they recruit from within rather taking on too many new transcribers.

Gally123 · 24/03/2021 13:58

@Lovemydaxie - yes I already have several of those specialties and one has few tasks showing recently so I hope they are planning for the future. It is nice to see that they are showing some interest and support for their regular typists but an up to date email about the situation would be helpful.

Lovemydaxie · 24/03/2021 14:32

@Gally123 - yes, I agree. It would be good to get an occasional newsletter, as it was useful for reinforcing how they want letters etc set out. I am finding recently that I am getting the dreaded 'feedback' emails about things which I have being doing one way for years and suddenly they want it done differently which is very frustrating. Some communication really wouldn't go amiss from them.

Gally123 · 24/03/2021 14:39

@Lovemydaxie - I wonder when we get the dreaded feedback on something we have always done whether it is a request from a new hospital they have just taken on - would be better to inform everyone of new rules instead of doing in on a one to one basis as people make "mistakes" but I gather from what they said when they stopped sending the monthly newsletters it is to do with the laws that were passed at the time ensuring that only emails were sent to people who agreed to receive them etc (forget what it was called but you have to actively agree to be on a mailing list).

Lovemydaxie · 24/03/2021 14:45

@Gally123 - that'll be GDPR where you have to opt in to receive communications. It really wouldn't be difficult for them to ask us all to do that. You are probably right in that a particular hospital wants something typed in a certain way, but the way they send the feedback is sometimes vicious!

deewu · 24/03/2021 15:58

There is a tick box on your account settings if you do not want to receive emails which says "Please tick this box if you do NOT want to receive emails from DICT8 that provide useful information regarding your particular specialities" Do you think useful information is unhelpful feedback!

Gally123 · 24/03/2021 16:16

@deewu - never noticed that before, just had a look. I am tempted to try ticking it and see what happens.

danblack87 · 24/03/2021 16:18

Hi I got the e-mail for extra specialties. One is my specialty already so I thought perhaps more work is due in. I have had several "there is plenty of work in ..." over the last week but they do go really quickly Confused.

Lovemydaxie · 24/03/2021 16:42

I've not noticed the tick box before. I wonder if we tick that does it stop the nit picking feedback.

Gally123 · 24/03/2021 16:58

@danblack87 - how was your jab?

danblack87 · 24/03/2021 17:24

@Gally123: jab was fine. Just a bit of a sore arm today.

Chrissols · 25/03/2021 15:53

Hi everyone, had no wifi for a few days so had a forced few days off. Did everyone take up a new specialty?

OP posts:
deewu · 25/03/2021 18:23

I managed to get one, was quite surprised. I had set my expectations very low.

danblack87 · 26/03/2021 08:42

@Chrissols: I didn't take up any - one of mine was already on!

Lovemydaxie · 26/03/2021 09:04

@Chrissols - 2 of mine were on the list and I couldn't truthfully say i've had vast experience of the others unfortunately.

Lucylizzy123 · 26/03/2021 10:20

Couldn't be bothered. I had asked on a few occasions to have more added but was refused for no good reason, so not playing their game now. Must say however that works seems to be picking up now.

Chrissols · 26/03/2021 10:28

I've just managed to get one and there seems to be a lot of work. Really pleased they have offered it to existing transcribers first before taking on new.

OP posts:
Gally123 · 26/03/2021 10:56

@Chrissols - sorry to keep mentioning the Uber drivers and their recent court cases but I wonder whether offering extra work to existing typists is in line with possible future changes to working conditions, and also why other companies (WeType and the other one recently mentioned) are now insisting that typists commit to a certain number of hours a day.

Chrissols · 26/03/2021 11:14

@Gally123 Possibly, who knows. If it works in our favour that's great. I cannot believe how much work I am seeing today
