Good Morning all Dict8 ladies

Sorry. Also have had another thought. Why can't you discuss what specialities you type. Is there a clause or something that says it can't be discussed.

Gally123 · 10/03/2021 07:47

@wildatbay - at the moment in lockdown earnings are still down, so last month with DICT8 I earned about £600.

wildatbay · 10/03/2021 07:57

Thanks. Just trying to figure whether it would be financially viable.

Lucylizzy123 · 10/03/2021 08:40

Hi, I was interested to read your post. I think £1400 will be a struggle to earn with DICT8, not only currently but also going forward. You would need to type every day for about six to seven hours (depending on your typing speed) and I dont know how possible that would be with an 8 year old child and the demands of that!! I have been there so know how hard that can be (although lovely) !
However I think you could definitely achieve that and more if you take up work with Tpro. That is very easy to earn, and because of the huge amount of work they have you can work in the evenings and be pretty certain there will be work available. I dont know if they are taking on transcribers at the moment but I would certainly look into that as I think it is more lucrative than DICT8. Good luck.

PS not sure why people dont state their specialites, as far as I am aware there is absolutely no clause that says you cant. I think people just want to keep a little information back in case DICT8 are kind of monitoring this site and could deduce who is talking!!! Cant think of any other reason.

Gally123 · 10/03/2021 08:41

@wildatbay - well as mentioned several times in the threads there has been no pay rise with DICT8 for years, and as you worked for them before and the situation has not changed it depends on whether you found it financially viable previously.

Chrissols · 10/03/2021 08:42

@wildatbay we can say our specialities but it is best to stay anonymous as the proof readers come on here from time to time. At the moment I would say financially you would be lucky to earn half of what you are looking for, and that would be early till late working.

I hadnt needed to work full time before but do know and just wondered about the work load etc.

Thanks. I hadn't heard of Tpro before this thread, will definitely look into it. It seems that people have two or three companies they work for. Might be good for me to do that when I decide to jump ship. Its a scary thought but I think i might do it.
deewu · 10/03/2021 09:01

I have never felt confident that I could reliably earn any specified amount with Dict8 and I have been typing for them since 2008. When I moved I did just type for them for a few months and once I managed £1000 in one month but that was working all sorts of strange times so probably on and off for at least 12 hours on some days. I was surprised when I read on this thread that in the past people managed to reliably earn enough to live on. However I only have two specialties and my requests for more have always been turned down. 😥

Thanks. Might be better for me to work part time at Dict8 and part time an employed job. People seem to make it work though but maybe they do 12 hour days! I definitely don't want to do that and can't with a child .
Chrissols · 10/03/2021 13:05

Just had my first vaccine.......so so very glad to get it 😁😁😁😁

having a lot of problems today - not sure if down to the weather, it is a bit windy, or the internet, or my laptop. There have been a few issues since I did updates at the weekend with esp Chrome being unresponsive and keeping freezing but I have not known things as bad as today. I have lost my foot pedal twice - then it would not stop! Then I had no mouse. All this makes typing impossible. Anyone else having issues or is it just me? In which case it could be the laptop!

Chrissols · 10/03/2021 16:13

@Gally123 oh dear, sounds like you are having a very frustrating/annoying day. I haven't had any problems, apart from the fact I keep getting side-tracked today for some reason. Concentration is pooh today 😂😂😂

OP posts:
deewu · 10/03/2021 16:53

@Gally123 My chrome updated itself in the night and would not load this morning then a flashing icon appeared asking me to okay something and it has been fine since, my partner had to re install his. May be worth a look for any updates.

Gally123 · 10/03/2021 17:05

@deewu - I did updates last weekend but noticed problems soon after but really bad today, there might be some more updates to do though

Meha5 · 10/03/2021 18:33

@wildatbay I'm not sure how the benefit system works now but if you were really unhappy in your job and could get top ups when needed I would say earning a bit less and being happy and settled is a better option. When my children were at school I did part-time/DICT8 just for that extra bit of security.

Chrissols · 10/03/2021 18:57

@wildatbay it may be wise to check re benefits first as if you were to need a top up they may not pay this with leaving employment of own accord, definitely worth checking so you don’t get caught out

OP posts:
Gally123 · 10/03/2021 20:18

@wildatbay - also remember there is no holiday pay or sick pay, and no guarantee of work. There will also be times like today with my laptop problems where I have only earned about £25-£30. A couple of years ago the phone line outside came down in a storm and I was without internet for three days. If you need a set regular income then maybe working from home is not for you.

Chrissols · 11/03/2021 08:05

Gosh, that vaccine has floored me 🤒🤒worth it though

OP posts:
Lovemydaxie · 11/03/2021 09:10

@Chrissols I was going to ask how you felt this morning! I had the most stonking headache the next day, but felt a lot better the day after that, apart from a sore arm. People tell me that the second one (I had the AZ) is not as bad. Definitely worth it though.

Chrissols · 11/03/2021 09:12

@Lovemydaxie I had the same one. Was freezing all night and ache so much now, but I would have it again in a heartbeat

OP posts:
Gally123 · 11/03/2021 09:14

@Chrissols - I was not too bad, mainly a painful arm, but I think I read that COVID responses can be down to your blood group and also people with low vitamin D have more effects; cannot remember my blood group but I do take strong vitamin D anyway for bone problems. A friend of mine was very tired and felt flu like symptoms afterwards but said many of the people she knew who had no side effects with the first one had them with the second jab! So we shall see... but as you say, worth it for holidays etc and peace of mind.

Chrissols · 11/03/2021 09:17

@Gally123 definitely, I felt quite chuffed when I’d had it

OP posts:
Meha5 · 16/03/2021 17:39

I have taken matters into my own hands -

  1. If the person is just chatting away about bits and pieces to the secretary and it does not fit on the imaginary Post-It Note in my head - it's not a note it's a letter.
  2. If they say "note to" and it does not fit on said imaginary Post-It Note - it's not a note it's a letter.

Sorry to bring this up again 🤣🤣

Gally123 · 16/03/2021 18:40

@Meha5 - I have been thinking along the same lines, it is a matter of interpretation. After all, a lot of the doctors when they are dictating say "note to GP" and when doing their messages to secretary some start by saying "Dear Secretary".
