Good Morning all Dict8 ladies

OP posts:
Whitestar5 · 19/02/2021 13:20

Good afternoon everyone. I apologise if this is a bit off topic, but I've had to buy a laptop, because Dino (my faithful old dinosaur of a PC has finally given up working and has retired to the pantry for the moment), and as expected I'm having problems installing my foot pedal with Windows 10 and DICT8. It's also a dinosaur - an Olympus RS27 and only the RS28 and RS31 models are listed on the DICT8 platform. I've tried to download a driver, but unsuccessfully. Does anyone have any tips? Thanks.

Chrissols · 19/02/2021 13:28

@Whitestar5 unfortunately, I can't help, I had to get an IT man to sort mine as couldn't do it myself.

Thanks anyway. I'll keep trying, I don't want to have to buy a flippin new foot pedal as well. I've also emailed Olympus. .....I agree about DICT8 needing to either raise their rates or pay for the dreaded 'Notes Box' work....preferably both.

Lovemydaxie · 19/02/2021 13:41

Been an absolutely dire day on Dict8. I've typed 2 very short tasks all day! By contrast, yesterday and Wednesday were quite good days. Is anyone else the same today?

Gally123 · 19/02/2021 13:47

@Whitestar5 - when you say you tried to download a driver, do you mean the DICT8 software they provide? Are you trying on Chrome or Internet Explorer as it may be that an older foot pedal might work with an older browser? Otherwise I can only suggest you try the Olympus website as when I had problems previously with a Panasonic pedal (I now use a Phillips) my niece sorted it by going to the Panasonic website.

@Chrissols - it is being directed as to which tasks I type that makes me feel like an employee and not having the freedom of choice that is supposed to come with being self-employed. It is nice typing in the evenings and weekends with Tpro and know that there is no-one who is able to comment on which tasks I am typing!

Chrissols · 19/02/2021 14:28

@Lovemydaxie I have been really busy today, and still loads of tasks, it is the first day it's been like this for me though this week

@Chrissols Literally after posting that I have had more files come through. It's very hit and miss though today.

Hi Gally123, and thanks, I'm just trying everything in Chrome now.

Whitestar5 · 19/02/2021 14:35

I think it's DICT8 that's the problem, the RS27 model isn't in their list. What a pain. I'll email them.

@Chrissols Yes, particularly in the days when Dict8 had a bit more work coming in and they would block access to all but one job because it had been sitting on the system for too long, therefore preventing everyone from doing any work at all. You could see the other four jobs but they used the 'well someone had better do this or no-one else gets any work' tactic, holding us to ransom. That just cannot be right and it used to make me so angry.

Whitestar5 · 19/02/2021 14:46

What foot pedals do those of you with Windows 10 use? I might have to buy an up to date one?

Gally123 · 19/02/2021 15:16

@Whitestar5 I use the Phillips (ACC2310) one as recommended by DICT8 for use with Windows 10 (also works with TPRO) and I bought it via the company they mentioned, DMCL (Dictation Machine Company London) which gives a slight discount to DICT8 typists (this was a couple of years ago) and it was cheaper than Amazon or Ebay

Gally123 · 19/02/2021 15:17

It cost just over £61 including P&P and came quickly

@Gally123 Thanks, it looks like I'll have to buy a new one then.

Chrissols · 19/02/2021 15:20

@Whitestar5 mine is a Philips ACC2320 and it works on all three systems I use.
@danblack87 just wondering if you're okay? you've been very quiet and you did say you had not been well lately

OP posts:
Whitestar5 · 19/02/2021 16:06

Does the ACC2310 also work on other systems like TPro?

Chrissols · 19/02/2021 16:24

@Whitestar5 the ACC2320 does, it works on every system I use, plus other's I have tried out, it's just right side for Dict8, left side for Tpro and the middle for any other system

OP posts:
Whitestar5 · 19/02/2021 16:41

I've just realised Gally123 said that the 2310 works with Tpro too. I've ordered one now from DMCL with a slight discount and it has worked out to be about £5 cheaper than with Amazon, when you factor in the postage. Thanks everyone for your help.

Chrissols · 21/02/2021 11:51

Hope you're ok @danblack87

OP posts:
danblack87 · 21/02/2021 14:08

@Chrissols: Hi, thanks for asking. I am okay. Been quite busy this week and also, for some reason, I could not get Pay with Dict8 to load. When it did it looks like I had not received e-mail notifications and so I had to catch up on reading all the news. Hahahahaha. Hope you have been keeping busy. x

Chrissols · 22/02/2021 13:47

@danblack87 glad your ok. Been very busy today (in between booking a holiday for next year)

OP posts:
danblack87 · 22/02/2021 14:28

@Chrissols: been fairly busy here too on Dict8. Where did you decide to go for your hols?

Chrissols · 22/02/2021 14:37

@danblack87 we already have a holiday booked for October in Turkey in October so hoping things will be okay by then for travel. Said I would treat my son and his lass to a week away next year so have booked a week in Corfu in May (hope Dict8 gets busy), will be nice to have some quality time with him as although we live close to each other, we actually rarely see each other with one thing and another.

OP posts:
danblack87 · 22/02/2021 14:54

I have been to Turkey one (for two weeks - 2010)and I was in Corfu in 2008 for a day. I got married August 2008 on a cruise ship and one of the stops was in Corfu ... went to Corfu Castle. I am not planning any holidays just yet.

Chrissols · 22/02/2021 15:22

We were supposed to be going to Tenerife in May this year, but cancelled that. Really hoping by October it will be okay, but feeling confident now with the faster roll out of the vaccine, my other half has already had his first.
